Insomniac Games has responded to fans on Twitter to shoot down speculation of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 featuring co-op. Earlier in the day, Miles Morales voice actor Nadji Jeter appeared to tease the PS5 sequel would feature co-op play across his web-slinger and Peter Parker in a panel at SacAinme. However, this isn't actually the case.
"It is an epic single-player adventure," Insomniac Games explains.
Of course, this does not rule out the possibility of playing as multiple Spider-Men across the campaign. Some fans have prophesied how you may be able to switch characters on the fly ala Grand Theft Auto V, or call in backup during combat encounters. Off the back of PS5, PS4 title Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, it would come as a surprise if the other web-slinger isn't playable whatsoever.
There's a chance all will be revealed during the PlayStation Showcase this Wednesday, where Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is expected to feature prominently, with gameplay and a potential 2023 release date. What sort of showing do you expect? Just don't wish for co-op in the comments below.

Good. No multiplayer wanted, thanks.
Thank goodness.
Im fine with that. I don't really care about coop or mp in single player games.
Who the hell wants co op in a spiderman game?
God Tier game confirmed.
Surprised they commented! I would have liked co-op as a separate mode, but happy with the focus on SP.
I’m glad they’re just focusing on the single player
Spider-Man: Factions
Yeah, glad they are focusing solely on SP.
Thank you Insomniac.
I will be happy as long as it isn't a live service game.
Best news all week.
So coop means live service to most of people right now?
I quite liked the idea of Peter and Miles swinging around Manhattan either together or separately but in the same time and space.
@get2sammyb we're in the minority 🥲
Co-op would've been cool
@ED_209 people here are terrified of live service
I would have enjoyed swinging around NYC with friends but not a deal breaker
@ED_209 My point was not that co-op implies live service.
I am glad they are focused on the single player experience and separately I am hoping they don't make it a pseudo live service game as some other single player games have done.
@DiddyWahDiddy They could do a live service game base on the films where each player is from a different universe.
Why is co-op all of a sudden bad in gaming LOL. If done right co-op in spider man could be dope
Honestly, I would only play it Single-Player, but co-op Spider-Men Parker/Miles would be amazing. Hell I would dip my toes into the mode after clearing it once solo.
Shame, could've been dope.
Like that modded vid of the miles morales first mission.
@helloim_anthony anything but single-player tends to be seen as a horrible thing among fans of third person cinematic adventure fans. I do wonder how they are taking the news of Horizon becoming an MMO…
I don't understand how it would work over all. But it would b e fun to web around the city with a friend and have multiple ways to take on a mission. Flank opponents and stuff.
@theMEGAniggle The garbage it's brought us they better should. Broken releases, excessive monetization alone should be a reason to hate lifeservice.
ngl that a light implementation like a couch coop of pete and miley taking down optional enemy camps would be a lot of fun
@helloim_anthony It cause people have been beat over the head so many times with live service games. That people have forgotten that co-op ≠ live service.
Good to know. I dont want multiplayer in Spiderman 2.word up son
@AverageGamer hell, some people these days call DLC “live service”.
Weird how many people consider this objectively good. It's really neither good nor bad, but it's jarring to see so many gamers actively against a cooperative experience. Really the game industry's fault for excusing bad design on the pretense that gamers won't notice if they're playing with friends.
Still though, I remember when I was growing up I hoped the majority of games had co-op. A good game is still a good game with shoehorned co-op, but a good co-op game is some of the most fun you're likely to have gaming.
MP games might be the industry's biggest moneymaker but single player games are the industry's soul.
Soo....VR mode when...?
I think the dislike comes not from a dislike of playing with a friend or relative. The dislike is that coop has become an industry watch word for "loot grinding shallow drop in drop out game inspired by mmo quests designed to sell mtx "
Fine by me. Co-op is what led Resident Evil astray after 4
Sounds like a failure to me. For me it’s always fun to play together with friends or random folks online. Yes, I hate those multiplayers injected with battle passes and loot boxes, but that’s a totally different thing. So those who support such news are mixing thing up in my opinion or just misanthropic lonely old people (choose what suits you best).
If this was co-op it would be a no buy.
@RoomWithaMoose I don’t really care to play multiplayer games. But I’m also a grumpy old man who doesn’t really like people, so there’s that 😆
@Soulless666 I’m not lonely, but I am misanthropic and old, 😆
I quite enjoy playing with friends live, but online just isn’t fun for me, especially with random strangers. That being said, I wouldn’t have been bothered if the game had multiplayer, so long as I wasn’t forced to play it to enjoy the game.
I’ve been playing a lot of “After the Fall” lately, and I’m enjoying it, but I’m just playing with AI. Just give me the option to play solo and I’m cool, and let people who love multiplayer enjoy that, too.
Glad there is no MP and only single player. Last thing I need is to get yelled at for taking too long looking at all the reflections and graphics.
@Flaming_Kaiser I agree, I want to see a developer do it good for once
Honestly, good. There's enough multiplayer games out there. Some games don't need any of that stuff.
@RoomWithaMoose I think people are just happy they've not lost focus on what has made the previous two Spiderman games really good.
It's not people railing against co-operative games or gameplay, just that in this instance it's not really something fans desired and, as it turns out, that the studio wanted to provide.
I’m glad it’s a single player focused game but a separate coop mode would have been amazing to have
I’m glad Insomniac is building the best single player experience they can first and foremost.
With that said, a co-op mode added a few months after launch would be interesting. That’s how Ghost of Tsushima was. SP built the game as a single player experience first and foremost. But they added a multiplayer co-op mode (Legends) sometime after launch leveraging the open world they had built.
I would like to see something like that. But the single player experience comes first and foremost. Save a co-op mode for a few months down the road.
@theMEGAniggle I rather see more games like FF16 finished complete and polished.
Well not surprising. Still being singleplayer focused makes sense for the core mechanics and focus of the game (story and missions also) even if co-op side missions would probably have been enough.
But the last Insomniac co-op campaign games were what Fuse, Ratchet and Clank All For One both around the same time. Resistance trilogy before that and Ratchet Deadlocked/Gladiator being their first I'm pretty sure and I think being the best besides the Resistance trilogy having a fine co-op mode.
Even the Uncharted 3 co-op missions of wave after wave or the 5 mini story chapters were really cool and why I prefer it over the PS4 versions of the game that content is more important to me than the graphics and cutting that content.
Doing it later like Ghost of Tsushima did made sense but it depends what Insomniac's goal was. But with Miles/Peter yeah it would have been cool to see happen or at least some commands for the other ally character in battle then just being a typical ally doing whatever with the players or just another character in the story and that's it.
@Flaming_Kaiser no reason why it can't apply to live service too but yeah I'm more of a single player enthusiasts myself
