Like it or not, Diablo 4 is set to be a long-term project for Blizzard, through the magic of a live service model. That's not to say the action RPG's going to launch unfinished or anything — the campaign's supposed to be a good 35 hours long, for example — but the intention is to keep adding and refreshing things as the months and years roll by.
But what kind of stuff actually makes Diablo 4 a live service title? Well, we know that it's going to have seasons and a battle pass — and both of these components are going to be explained in more detail next week. Indeed, Blizzard has confirmed that it'll be hosting a livestream on the 10th May, at 11am Pacific / 2pm Eastern / 7pm UK time.
The official announcement reads: "The development team will spell how Diablo 4’s Seasons, Cosmetics, and the completely optional Battle Pass will work."
Will you be tuning in to hear more about live service Diablo? What are your expectations for these things? Judge it all for yourself in the comments section below.

For anyone bout to complain: recognize Diablo 3 has had seasonal support for years and it is hugely popular.
The only new thing is tying it to a battle pass, providing more stuff to unlock and earn. And until they say anything, it's unknown how much, if anything, they will cost.
Seasons cost $0 in Diablo 3, but battle passes cost money in Immortal. We really, truly don't know how they'll implement it until they say so.
@MFTWrecks The microtransactions in Immortal made them hundreds of millions of dollars. Anyone who thinks 4 won't follow suit doesn't understand how capitalism works. By bet is that they'll start slow, wait for all of the good reviews before ramping it up.
I think I know what a “battle pass” is, but does that terminology sit well for Diablo? Should it be called something else?
super excited for this and I could care less about micro transactions. just give me some content and a good story and I'm in. open beta was great and felt good on PC using my PS5 controller... that hooked me!
@MFTWrecks first battle pass is 10 bucks based on if you do the math of the different versions of the pre orders.
@LifeGirl you can understand how capitalism works and still be wrong. Immortal has made a ton of money. They can still get immortal money and not implement pay to win mechanics in d4 which so far from everything we've seen and they've said aren't in d4.
Already pre ordered that I usually don't do. I'm ready. Excited
Hopefully nothing beyond cosmetics is paid for. I can live with that. I can support that.
Yes, all neat and dandy. But when do they roll out the "Single Player Campaign Offline" patch? Inquiring minds are curious.
Mhhhhhmm check please!
I am here for all of it. I will play this game for years so the battle passes are a welcome. I don’t dislike a good live service game, but most of them aren’t good to me and worth the time and energy to apply to them daily or even weekly. D4 is so i hope they have loads of content coming and i will gladly play and buy. Just about one month away at this point, can’t wait!
Lets go! 8,99£/9,99£ per 3 months season would be acceptable for long term support of this game with decent evolution with extra Story bits with every season. Probably some paid expansion could be expected after 1 year, that Paladin or something similar.
I’m not buying this game because it requires PS Plus to play, even single player. So stupid, and so disappointing…
@Ear_wiG There is Single player?
How would world bosses work who are meant to be taken down by up to 10+ players. You would like to have Single player, that issue you should raise.
