Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the more traditional stealth title in the long-running series, still hasn’t been officially dated by Ubisoft – but there were reports that the French firm was targeting an August 2023 release date. Now, reliable rumourmonger Tom Henderson says those plans have changed, with the title being “internally delayed” into October 2023 instead.
Understandably, the publisher’s yet to comment on any of these reports, but we probably won’t have to wait too long for confirmation: a Ubisoft Forward livestream has been locked for 12th June as part of the summer’s not-E3 showcase season, and we’ve got a sneaking suspicion Mirage will feature heavily during the broadcast.
If all the upcoming Assassin’s Creed projects have got you confused, you’re not alone: this is the game set in 9th-century Baghdad, starring Basim Ibn Ishaq, who was previously introduced in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. It’s felt like some time since we got a major release out of Ubisoft, so we expect it to push Mirage hard this holiday – assuming that October 2023 window is accurate, of course!

I have high hopes for this one. I STILL haven't started Valhalla! But I also see that as an assassin's Creed themed game. This one seems like it's maybe a real return to what made early ac special.
After forcing myself to beat Origins, skipping Odyssey and losing interest half way into Valhalla, I'm not sure I'll be buying any more AC games. Used to love them.
@Uncharted2007 yeah origins was bad and valhalla was kinda a slog but shame you skipped odyssey. I actually found that one to be really good and the hierarchy assassin list was much better in it
They've certainly been cooking this one for a while now. Honestly this is one of if not the most anticipated game I expect to see more of in the next few weeks. I got really high hopes for this one! Long live the Creed.
I really enjoyed the first 2 AC titles..did not like the 3rd too much although it had some really good scenes. I did not bother with the series until i played odyssey which i loved so that prompted me to buy origins and valhalla. I'll wait and see how this turns out as i prefer the route the last 3 outings have taken (please note this is my personal choice.)
@Rmg0731 I disagree, Origins is by far the better of the RPG-like Assassin’s Creed, but if you didn’t like you’re going to hate Odyssey and Valhalla.
And while I actually enjoyed both Origins and Odyssey, Valhalla is so unnecessarily massive and repetitive (and the story so laughably bad if you followed the lore of the franchise) that it literally burned me out of the franchise, and then Far Cry 6 burned me out of all Ubisoft games, it really feels they’ve been releasing the same games for 10 years only changing the skins and scenery so I’m definitely done with Ubisoft until they actually make a different game.
Ah geez just bring back Desmond and the apple old assassin's Creed way better than any other. Just a bad ending needs to be fixed.i replayed the first one for ages till the 2nd one came along really enjoyed the 4 release games of ezio, hated the ending and the 4th one nope I was gone total disaster.
@NEStalgia I had about 100 hours in Valhalla last year and even didn´t complete it. Now I am back since 2 weeks or so and I love it even more than last year. Had to take a break because of other good releases and so on. Going to play Ragnarök DLC afterwards too.
Origins had the most compelling story beats of the recent three, Odyssey the best central character (Kassandra) and Valhalla's intertwining with history was something I really enjoyed - as a Brit.
From Origins to Valhalla there's no doubt however that the bloat increased exponentially and chipping away at the resulting grind wasn't fun for a lot of people. If this new game distils the last three's best bits (and mechanics) into a much more compact map and story it will land really well IMHO.
@Marquez this will be the case I think. They mentioned this in a interview. It will be significantly smaller with much more density. Hope that is true.
didnt even bother trying to get into the most recent 3 AC's; not my style and too open-world RPG filler slog nonsense. glad AC going back to its roots, now can we get the multiplayer back?
id even appreciate a linear AC in the style of sly cooper 1, with stealth segments and platforming
Hopefully less grindy than the last few, with a twenty to thirty hour play through. Seriously haven't got the time for anymore 100 hour plus slog fests. Quality over quantity.
What is strange that this will only be sold as a digital version. Cheaper but only digital.
Really looking forward to this as its been too long since the AC game and one that plays like an AC game.
@WallyWest Are you forgetting how awful the AC games were when lazy Ubisoft were forced to change their formula? Going backwards won't fix anything
I’m sure they’ll tell us next month. This speculation does nothing.
@Heavy_Artilery Awful? AC was never awful and Unity and Syndicate are two of my favourite entries.
@WallyWest The vast majority disagree with you. Ubisoft will continue having financial problems
Hopefully in all the uncertainty, this game has remained a streamlined, budget retail og AC experience. I’d like an update soon on this one.
October is a good date. I'm not worry yet, playing Origins right now, them Valhalla (Odyssey already complete), so I'm a long way to reach Mirage.
@Heavy_Artilery Vast majority? Funny as critic reviews were good and a quick look at Steam has user scores for Unity at mostly positive. Your opinion isn't the vast majority dude, in fact its easier to find an opinion on those wanting a return to "classic" AC then it is of those wanting another Valhalla. The reason Ubi changed course was because the formula was starting to grow stale and Unity's rough launch killed trust leading to less then ideal sales for Unity/Syndicate.
@WallyWest So you admit that I am right, but you want to argue anyway? Weird.
Going backwards won't fix Ubisoft's financial woes. May they go out of business or get bought soon.
@Heavy_Artilery When did i admit you were right? A game formula starting to feel stale doesn't mean its awful.
@WallyWest Of course it does. When something goes stale you don't just keep it in the closet and then bring it back 5 years later. May Ubisoft continue failing. The only studio that deserves to fail imo.
@Heavy_Artilery No it doesn't not in entertainment terms and VG's aren't food. I can see you're one if those people though where a game is either a 1 or a 10 and no in-between. Sure though provide evidence that Unity and Syndicate are awful because the MC scores are good as are the Steam user scores, clearly people like them.
You clearly have a hate boner for Ubi while no doubt supporting something else far worse elsewhere but hey instead of commenting on comments what never asked for an opinion that has no relation to it i suggest you do something that might bring you joy.
@WallyWest So I actually have facts to back up what I am saying while you have nothing. Ubisoft were forced to stop using their old formula and now 3 games later their new formula is just as stale which leads to financial problems and instead of innovating they just want to bring the old stale formula back. Idiocy.
Maybe the problem is that you hate games that require you to use your brain.
@freddquadros Same here and I'm still behind haha. Playing thru AC3 right now. I kept getting distracted by newer games.
@KidRyan III is great!! You are for a treat, with III, Liberation, IV and Rogue!! A great sequence!!!
Yeah, I'll get a month of Ubi+ and test it out.
Lets go back to 15 year old mechanics stuck in a city is not high on my list after the last 3 AC worlds set me free.
Not romanticizing the past... the old stuff is archaic. But I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and $14.
I remember how the last article posted about this I said if it was in August it would be a skip from me. Now if it’s October that’s basically a day 1 purchase and has me much more interested and excited.
@WallyWest I actually replayed Unity last fall and loved it. Played through the entire story without loosing interest like I did with the last two I played. I'm planning to replay Syndicate now that they've patched it for PS5.
@Heavy_Artilery Did you just crawl out of a dumpster recently to make an account to argue with people you don't agree with your opinion?
@pharos_haven No but since you love AC you will enjoy living in a dumpster
@ORO_ERICIUS that's not true?
@Heavy_Artilery I said nothing of the sort but since you have crawled out of the deepest parts of Bulgaria your opinion means little here.
@pharos_haven Your opinion doesn't mean anything if you like AC
@freddquadros Thanks! I'm considering switching back to backlog focus like I used to.
Jedi Survivor, Horizon, etc will still be there later.
I tried the original AC years ago. Absolutely hated it. Then I thought maybe they’ve improved it and tried one of the PS4 ones years later. Still hated it with a passion. The combat sucks and having to wait 20 seconds for (awful) dialogue to load was even worse.
