Prepare for potential toxicity, as Street Fighter 6 will include an indicator that demonstrates whether an opponent is playing on a wired system or with Wi-Fi. Despite having absolutely excellent rollback netcode, Capcom’s programming obviously can’t overcome a bad connection, and many fighting game fanatics feel players should use a wired Internet connection in order to ensure the best possible experience.
Obviously, the fighter is still perfectly playable over Wi-Fi, but as spotted on Twitter there is a little icon now which distinguishes wired connections from wireless ones. While we’d like to assume only those playing in the very upper-echelons of competitive play will be paying attention to this, we could potentially foresee some badmouthing and beef occurring as a result of this notification.
Hopefully that’s not the case, though, and people just use this as a useful tool to determine whether they’re going to get the best quality match-up or not. Personally, we reckon the addition of information like this is generally a positive thing, but as is always the case in life, it’s the people that use it who manage to turn it into a negative. Let’s hope Street Fighter 6 attracts a positive and friendly community – and not a toxic one!

When PS5 is wired and playing via Project Q. Wireless?
Isn't knowing the ping enough? I appreciate that wired does indeed improve your connection, but it doesn't guarantee that it's a good one. A good fast isp and a good router is probably faster than a wired slower isp.
People are going to look at mine and think i have an advantage. AT&T fiber gigabit internet came to my town and i am hardwired in on PS5 and Series X. My download speed at worst read 864 and best was 1016mbps. With my upload at 540- 900mbps. It’s crazy fast and i am only paying $25 more a month for it than my 400mbps plan i had before and that was only 20mbps upload. If i lose badly they will be like i just whipped you and I’m on 30mbps haha that would be a stick in my eye. This is about to be fun!!
@Green-Bandit I so wish I could get my hands on internet that fast lmao.
What if you use a wired connection to something that connects through wifi, like a wifi extender? And what if that wifi extender is connected to your mobile hotspot?
I use a wire connection. I’m no huge competitive pro, but I definitely will be playing some online matches.
@Deadlyblack man i am not even trying to brag one bit for having it. So when i say this, it’s cause i wish every gamer had it. I just downloaded Diablo 4, 75GB in 12.5 mins. I couldn’t even drive to the store one way that fast to buy it even if i did use physical media. My 400mbps before this was decent, a game of this size would have been 40-50 mins. One thing i am not sure about is on PS5 my upload speed is half of what it is on Series X. Not sure if that is a Sony server thing or my connection. Cause i am hardwire on both into the same device. But so far for an extra $25 a month that me and my wife spilt anyway’s for $12.50 each it is way worth it. Plus they gave me a $300 dollar visa gift card for signing up. I was like deal!!!
@CutchuSlow
I would imagine the game would read it like a typical wired connection. I doubt whatever system is in place would be able to tell the difference on more complicated setups.
I can't say for certain however. I'm kind of in a similar boat myself so I'm hoping it at least tricks the system into saying I'm wired. Sometimes a wired connection just isn't possible after all!
I'm on wifi so I'll play with chat off and mute other players I guess. Haha.
@Yayoi_KISARAGI It would be wired, and only the Project Q person would feel the latency due to streaming the game from their PS5.
@CutchuSlow and then imagine using that wired to wifi extender connected to a hotspot while streaming from Project Q.
That seems like the way to go tbh. lol
The Twitter drama this started is extremely funny to me
Fighting games need a wire connection to be played at high level where literally a single frame might decide the outcome of a match.
Now, obviously not everyone is interested in playing at that level and not everyone can use a wired connection for various reasons. Now some of them apparently feel attacked and discriminated against by this addition as if they won’t be able to play it - someone even apparently cancelled their pre-order.
Guess what - this game is going to be extremely popular and most people won’t care about this at all. You will get dodged by some but you will still have no problems finding games.
(I realize this is just a small loud minority but it’s still amusing)
@Constable_What
Thank you. I understood it.
@Green-Bandit An if you win they will just say it down to your good internet connection.
@knowles2 this is true. Haha or call me ignorant names and then pretend Bobby from ABK is the worse person in the world. I might skip SF6 and wait to see more info on MK1. But no doubt the arcade part of SF6 looks really good and fun.
