The appointed time is almost upon us, with the infernal launch of Diablo 4 mere days away (less for those that purchased the Ultimate Edition of the game). To tempt its adherents still further into selling their souls, Blizzard has announced the ultimate reward for the most devoted of players: The names of the first 1000 players to reach level 100 on Hardcore Mode will be immortalized forever on a real statue of in-game antagonist Lillith.
If you didn't know, Hardcore Mode in Diablo 4 is an additional difficulty modifier that must be selected on character creation. Outside of which World Tier (essentially difficulty setting) you're playing on, it makes things infinitely tougher by instantly deleting the character once they die. That would make getting to level 10 tough, but 100? That's multiple playthroughs on increasingly difficult World Tiers (featuring new enemies in harder configurations) and roughly 150 hours of gameplay, as fast as possible, flawlessly.
To those who are about to die, we salute you.
To be amongst that hallowed company, to have your name remembered alongside those brave souls lost on the way; the ultimate gamer brag. Are you up to the challenge? Declare your intentions immediately in the comments section below.

This sounds like a good way to have a bad time.
Can’t wait for this to launch. Top 3 franchise all time for me. I remember buying Diablo 3 on launch and running it on my Mac. Then i got it for Xbox with controls and kinda stopped playing on computer. I will log insane hours on D4 and am so happy it’s coming out cause i have no backlog on PS5 or Series X.
Read about this earlier today and it seems about as impossible as it did before
I'm taking my time with this one.
Trying to get that FOMO going, blizzard?
I've been reading a bit about gamers complaining about people who played the betas and those who get the game earlier having an unfair advantage over those who buy the standard version. They think it would have been fairer all round to have launched this event when its on sale from the 6th. Not bothered about it myself as its something i would not bother with but i can see their point. I really cant wait for this to pop through my letter box..happy days.edited-even though all beta characters will have been erased those beta players will have beforehand knowledge on how the game mechanics and crafting system works therefore making progress easier and faster..thats their grumble.
Most fair solution would be to push that race for Season 1 start, so most of players get higher knowledge about game, but I could understand that this is time sensitive matter aswell. That will be large statue and it has to be finished on time, to show it at BlizzCon. I will not even try to do that, there will be plenty of players who will play 24/7, which I cant afford to do it nor I have high knowledge, nor I would want to rush Story Campaign at 1st playthrough.
Good luck for everyone who decides to race.
I saw the TV advert for this last night (UK) one of the worst acted/cheesiest/cheapest AD I’ve seen.
A nice excuse for the whales to drop 100,000 on the game. Or are we still pretending that Blizzard is our friend and would never pull something like this?
No thanks. Id rather enjoy the game at my own pace, even if this is a decade down the line.
In other words I will still be playing Diablo 3 well after the servers for 4 have been turned off and all your progress was for nothing. Games that require an internet connection to be played should be banned.
I can still load up my character from Phantasy Star Online on the Dreamcast and have a play; will the same be said of Diablo 4 in 20 years?
@RadioHedgeFund diablo 3 requires an online connection.
@RadioHedgeFund sorry my bad..you dont need it for local co-op or single player..i got confused as the pc version required a constant connection i just presumed it was the same for the ps4..ooops my bad 🙄
This sounds absolutely horrible lol
@Northern_munkey I don’t really get this issue that people have… Any one “sweaty” enough to attempt something like this are usually the content creators, the people who pre order the fancy deluxe edition to get it a couple days early, and most likely already played the beta… The people who would want it to wait till the 6th or season 1 are the casual, and they wouldn’t have a chance anyway.
@AverageGamer the hardcore mode has nothing to do with seasonal ladders etc. The first 1000 people to reach level 100 with a hardcore character get their names etched into the statue. Those who have previous knowledge of the game and how it works have an unfair edge. Not really sure why you think seasonal content applies here..thats what some people are getting salty about.
@Northern_munkey I know it has nothing to do with seasonal ladders… etc. It the fact that people was saying that Blizzard should hold off on the event till season 1 to give everyone fair footing due to the season not beginning till July. So you would have a month to prepare taking away the unfair edge for people who played the beta and preordered the deluxe edition. It’ll also give people time to enjoy the story without rushing through content.
@AverageGamer hardcore mode is not tied to seasonal content though.
@Northern_munkey You clearly don’t get the point…
can't wait for this game. this is pretty cool for those hardcore players.. hey all the power to em. me .. nah i have a life and will play and enjoy D4 at a casual pace soaking it all in. good luck to those who try.
@AverageGamer i do get the point you are trying to make. Hardcore mode is there right from launch day not a month or so down the line. There will be a seasonal ladder and a hardcore seasonal ladder too but this only affects those people playing the vanilla hardcore mode..you clearly dont get my point 🤣
@Northern_munkey And I’m not talking about not season ladder, only about the people playing vanilla hardcore.
@AverageGamer look i think we are at an impass here so i think its best we just leave it and let those gamers moan away. I'm going to really enjoy the game when it launches. Enjoy you evening buddy 👍
