Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, it's fair to say, has our attention. We got a new trailer today that, along with that epic last one, proudly proclaimed the game's Boomer Shooter bonafides, and we can't wait to get our power-armoured mitts on it.
In more than seven minutes of God-Emperor-given gameplay, we see the type of action likely to rouse more than a few gamers of a certain vintage from their stately torpor. That said, the smooth gameplay and bombastic presentation will likely appeal to younger players unfamiliar with something of this vintage and style, as well
Where are you at with Boltgun, are you on board? Or is this kind of thing just not your cup of tea? Let us know in the comments section below.

I'm still not sure about this. It looks fun but maybe in a sale when i have nothing to do out doors in the winter months..maybe 🤔
"boomer-shooter" is really bad slang, I certainly hope it won't stick.
It doesn't make sense of the use of "boomer", it feels derogatory and condescending and... well it's just lame. There's no need for it when you already have the "old-school shooter" or "Doom-clone/Doom-like" appellations.
I love FPS games so this is on my radar, I was burnt with Hired Gun though so I will definitely be waiting for a review first.
Enlist me to join the Adeptus Astartes, I'm loving the modern boom of boomer shooters, there's something about the art style they're using here that looks great.
For the Emperor.
Very satisfied with their Mars Horizon game. Now I am waiting for Mars Horizon 2. Great company, lets see how this game will look after release. Maybe it will take my attention
@Olmaz
Okay boomer shooter
I find the term "boomer shooter" offensive tbh. If you like older games like Doom, you're an old man? What are you trying to say here?
@KaijuKaiser
If you know it's a game you will enjoy, just play it. Trophies are worthless in the end.
@PegasusActual93 What a clever comeback...
"Baby boomers, sometimes shortened to boomers, are the demographic cohort following the Silent Generation and preceding Generation X. The generation is often defined as people born from 1946 to 1964, during the mid-20th century baby boom"
If I remember my history, original DOOM came out in 1993 (Wolfenstein a year before), some 31 years before the end of the 'Boomer' generation.
So to call them Boomer shooters (and the people who play them Boomers) is actually wrong, unless the target audience for Warhammer Boltgun are aged between 59 & 77.
Really they should be called Gen X shooter, but that doesn't rhyme (so bad for easy internet labels) and also post Gen X generations are jealous as Gen X was the coolest generation (says me).
Looks great, I hope there's demo on ps5, like the old doom shareware back then
Will put this on my wish list and wait for a sale.
@Futureshark Some of the Boomers were in their 30's in the 1990's, like my father and his buddies. They were the guys playing DOOM over dial-up internet, with their kids (me and my brother) looking over their shoulders in awe and thinking 'what a time to be alive' and 'this is so much cooler than Mario'. XD
I'm 47, a Gen X'er, I first experienced Doom at my Uncles in '93, he is now in his 70's so Boomer shooter isn't that far fetched and he still plays now, I bought him Prodeus recently....
Besides all the term does is encompass a style of game, both visually and play wise, whilst also rolling well off the tongue.
I genuinely don't see the issue with it.. he doesn't either.. but hey maybe we're old.. 🤣
Anyway, looking forward to this.. hopefully it holds its promise
I look forward to carrying out the God-Emperor's will!
@Olmaz If you're not in this niche why is complaining? We never had any problems calling them boomer shooters, everyone calls them like that on steam, even the devs. The game is clearly not for you and many people here, so please, don't opinion about something you guys don't understand.
@Shrek_Realista Huh?! Why do you think the game is not for me? Did I voice any criticism towards this genre?
It's the moniker "boomer shooter" that is inaccurate and condescending. And it has only been in use since 2022, which would show it's the younger generations who have been using it. So as someone who has played first generation 3D FPS since my youth, I can tell anyone calling these games "boomer shooters" to get off my lawn and to get a life.
It's just a grumpy 40 something being grumpy, that's all, don't take it too seriously! : )
@KaijuKaiser So you rather have a basic game with a Platinum then a great or fantastic game without a Platinum trophy? I love trophies but I never thought yeah that game looks really awesome but it has no Platinum yeah I won't get it.
@Olmaz But it's the truth I Remember the fun I had with games not the trophies. It's a list you check if and never look at it.
@Flaming_Kaiser I'm guessing you replied the wrong comment here! ; )
I like the term boomer shooter. Because you know exactly what it is & means and is just easier (and fun) to say than “90s 2.5D fast paced FPS”
@Futureshark thanks for the context, was thinking it didn't make any sense at all
@Futureshark I brought this same thing up last time... they are really Gen X shooters because millenials were mostly too young when they came out and the millenials who did play them were playing their older brothers/dad's copies... which is how I got introduced to them. That all being said, "doom-like" is really the most accurate term.
@Olmaz You are right my apologies for that.
