Gorgeous open world action RPG Tower of Fantasy has a release date, and it's soon. Dive into your next big time sink on 8th August on PS5 and PS4. In addition, pre-orders are now live (although the title is free-to-play) on the PlayStation Store. Check out some gameplay from a recent showing here, and see what all the fuss is about.
The PlayStation iteration of Tower of Fantasy is published by Perfect World Games and will operate independently of the PC and mobile iterations of the game, meaning there won't be any cross-platform connectivity. Further, game progression or the sharing of in-game items and purchases will not be transferable between PC/mobile and PlayStation, just in case you were planning on playing on the go.
What do you think of Tower of Fantasy? If you're already a player of Honkai Star Rail or Genshin Impact, how do you think it compares? Let us know in the comments section below.

I played a very tiny bit if this on my laptop and enjoyed what I could get through. Not sure the point of pre-ordering a free to play game, but I'm definitely keen to try some more of this with proper controller support.
@Khayl you say it's free to play but on the PlayStation store the standard edition is £8.99, there is no free version.
No cross-progression sounds like a huge downside, although it’s a bit understandable given it’s a different publisher.
I still might stick to PC/Mobile if I decide to try this one out.
so that pre-orders are only to get bonus items yeah?
its still free to play regardless, right?
We're supposed to pre-order free-to-play garbage now? Absolute madness.
@RainbowGazelle Who says it's garbage?
Looks pretty however I only have time to play one F2P gacha title, so i'll stick with Azur Lane.
@Tharsman Yeah… No cross-progression is a dealbreaker for me unfortunately. I was hoping to continue my playthrough on PS5 because controller support on PC is still mediocre at best.
@naruball Well, it's free-to-play, so the gameplay loops will be designed to try to extract as much money from the player as possible. So for me, that will be garbage gameplay, or at the very least, it won't be as enjoyable as more traditional games. I don't want to be constantly begged at when I'm trying to play.
@RainbowGazelle plenty of free to play games have proven that they can be fun without needing to spend a dime. Even if you don't find it as enjoyable, calling it "garbage" is a bit much, imo. Genshin impact, for example, is the furthest thing from garbage as far as I'm concerned.
@UltimateOtaku91 game isn't out yet I think the things you can pay now are packages you can pay for virtual stuff. Once the game is out there is going to be a f2p version
@GymratAmarillo will the free to play version be available on the same release date though? As games like Dreamlight Valley and Disney Speedstorm are meant to be free to play but you have to pay for a founders pack to play them now or wait for the free version 12 months later.
I played a bit of it on PC. Didn't really get into it.
@naruball If you need to pay to get into gacha games that are monetised to hell then yeah it's garbage.
@Flaming_Kaiser it's a good thing you don't
Honestly, willing to give this and HSR a try. Not really a big fan of GaaS but one thing that Genshin did right for a F2P gacha game is that you don't really need to spend a single dime and enjoy the game at your own leisure. Granted, you get higher chances of getting more characters and unlock special abilities by spending money but I've gotten enough character using only free gems and that's more than enough to get me through.
Gorgeous? This thing is not that pretty and quite boring…
@number1024 wait don't you mean a 6000SUX??
@Flaming_Kaiser As many reviewers have commented - Genshin does not attempt to do this, it makes money by creating a fantastic world, great stories, great gameplay, and building characters you care about - knowing that people will pay small amounts to collect these - but giving you huge opportunities to get them for free. With the size of their player base they only need a tiny percentage to pay and they make a fortune.
I’ve sunk hundreds of hours into it and pay £5.99 a month for a daily boost and have seen no need to pay more, nor have I been pushed or coerced into doing so. And I mainly pay that as I feel like I’m ripping them off otherwise!
@Palleon That makes it ok let the addicted people pay up. Yeah you lr point isn't as great as you think.
@Flaming_Kaiser I suspect you are trolling at this point but if not I’m not aware of the “addicted” part mentioned in my comment.
Regardless, it’s a very good game and until you have actually played it for any length of time (for free) you are genuinely not qualified to present an opinion on this game, which is based on hearsay from other completely different games.
Once you’ve spent an hour in the game I’d be happy to debate the system used with you. I’m not a fan of either gambling or random loot systems so I’m sure we would have plenty of common ground.
@UltimateOtaku91 Speaking of Dreamlight Valley, it's almost July now and we still don't have a release date yet for the free to play version.
Do you think we should be getting the date announcement soon?
