Insomniac Games has revealed the map for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will be "roughly twice the size" of the one in Marvel's Spider-Man and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, with new districts like Queens and Brooklyn included in the PS5 sequel. In addition, the studio has teased new activities to complete in the open world like "battles using the river that runs between the neighbourhoods".
From a new interview with Famitsu, creative director Brian Intihar explained: "We've added Queens and Brooklyn to the map, which makes it roughly twice the size of our previous work. These two neighbourhoods are a bit smaller and more residential, so they have a different charm than Manhattan. We have prepared some unexpected situations that we have never seen before, such as battles using the river that runs between the neighbourhoods, so please look forward to them."
Having both Peter Parker and Miles Morales playable with a set of abilities that allow them to traverse the open world much faster, it makes sense to expand the play space to accommodate those skills. Although, it sounds like you'll want to set aside the web-slinging for a time to explore Queens and Brooklyn on foot to soak in their unique atmosphere. It'll also help you can switch between Peter and Miles at any time, presumably introducing different dialogue and reactions to what they see.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will release on PS5 later this year. Will you take the time to fully explore its expanded map? Let us know in the comments below.

Saving The Bronx and Staten Island for Spider-Man 3.
Can't wait. Really think the ending of this game will open up the multiverse. Would love to see a spiderman game set in the world of the 90s series.
The first two games were among the very few open worlds that never felt tedious traversing imo. Looking forward to even more.
“Districts”. They’re called boroughs!
@RudeAnimat0r Staten Island doesn’t exist.
Guess there'll be no sleep till Brooklyn now.
@KaijuKaiser For me personally bigger games don't always amount to better games. Ubisoft games are massive but boring I rather have smaller games with more interesting quests. But a lot of games are packed with boring copy and paste missions.
Knew they add them as they had to really. Very excited to explore them.
@KaijuKaiser I thought the first game was about perfect size so I’m not sure I’m excited about doubling that size?
bigger doesn't mean better
Quality will always beat quantity
Bigger? That's a joke. Not enough. I want to be able to fly across the world. Terrible Devs.
No seriously, good progression. I still think there could be some surprises, like a few hidden locations that you potentially visit, but it's nice to see some expansion outside of Manhattan.
@CrispyMango92 Not sure how to respond to this. I've been there multiple times...?
@KaijuKaiser To be fair Yoshi P put it best where if the open world is bigger there can be massive spots on the map that have nothing and no player wants that.
So Staten Island and the Bronx for Spiderman 3?
@WallyWest
the same here. i really enjoyed part 1 and Miles Morales.
Ok...so...it's bigger... So is this a bigger open world now packed with interesting content and a living world to engage with? Or is this a bigger world to have to monotonously move to the next "stop the robbery/car chase" marker? I think the world in the first game was much too big for the amount of content it contained, I think it would have been better if it just went for an 8 hour R&C style linear adventure, the open world makes it less than the sum of its parts the way it was used.
@CrispyMango92 The hipsters took over Brooklyn and now it's a district. Boroughs are so mainstream.
Hopefully filled with side content involving more of Spidey's villain gallery in cameo missions - like in Arkham City for example
I become more and more interested in this game which is something that makes me very glad
Reailly wish insomniac best of luck with their efforts. It will be reailly cool to see how the game turn out to be
I have yet to see anything that has got me excited for this one. I was so sick of the first one by the time I rolled credits that finishing it felt like a chore. The only thing not by the numbers about that game is the traversal. “Bigger, more” just doesn’t do anything for me. Glad people are still interested in these formulaic open world games though, you’ll get your money’s worth on this one by the sounds of it.
I doubt we're going to see all of Brooklyn & Queens in the game. Especially Queens because it's huge. It might just be part of those boroughs.
Wonderful news! I'm so hyped for this game!
@commentlife I will take a “formulaic” open world game over yet another over-the shoulder level by level formulaic interactive movie any day.
At the end of the day: every game type is “formulaic”. Some enjoy the freedom of an open world, some prefer not having to think were to go next and not having to worry about traversal. It’s all about taste, but I can’t see how anyone that truly enjoyed everything about the last two entries would find SM2 disappointing.
Queens is in da house!!!
@stridernyc They said the map was twice and big, and each of Queens and Brooklyn are about 3-4x the size of Manhattan, so I’m thinking just the areas along the river. Which is too bad, Queens has 2 huge airports to have some fights involving planes, the old Worlds Fair and Citifield, and Brooklyn has Coney Island for an amusement park fight and a minor league ballpark.
Not sure how they’ll keep you out,,probably just invisible walls.🤷🏻♂️
Would be cool to see a Wu-Tang logo somewhere. Shout-out to Shamiek Moore.
@Tharsman It wasn’t meant as a derogative term necessarily and I don’t agree that every game type is formulaic. We have genres, and genres have tropes, conventions, etc etc. There are games that play it safe and follow the conventions of their genre very closely and games that take risks and departures. One is not necessarily worse than the other, it is just about taste. I am personally just less interested in conventional, regardless of genre. I had the same level of disinterest for GOW:R.
the side content in spiderman was a drag... what's important is that they make the world and it's side content fun to engage with. good swinging mechanics won't be enough this time around...
@Rob_230 This.
I want them to use more of Spiderman rogues gallery, especially the unpopular ones,for more side quest.
I saw Brooklyn and the beastie boys no sleep till Brooklyn started playing in my head lol 😂 🤣 it should be in the game
@Americansamurai1 I’m personally really hoping this doesn’t happen. Too many properties are doing the multiverse thing lately, the biggest two being Spider-Man, and.. well, Spider-Man. We’ve already got a trilogy of multiversal Spider-Man movies coming, and a pretty great live action multiversal Spider-Man movie. We’re good on multiversal Spider-Man content
I'm still secretly hoping we get to travel to the jungle, for some reason related to Kraven!
@Fyz306903 In addition to the other places? Hell yes that'd be awesome.
Hipsters lol. They won’t be very hip when they are losing there jobs to ai and have bigger things to worry about than ‘the environment’ 😂😂😂😂😂
Bigger maps and new ways to traverse them! Gonna love gliding my way all over them!
This is shaping up to be another fantastic SM game. Day 1
Swing my way to Misi
