We're still trying to get a read on the first-person sorcerer simulator Immortals of Aveum, and it's proving resistant to our scrying. The gameplay looks promising enough, but the fairly generic fantasy setting still gives a little pause (we got enough of that for the year in the mediocre Forspoken, thank you very much).
However, production values are through the roof, as evidenced by the cinematic cutscene that debuted over the weekend at San Diego Comic-Con. In it, we see protagonist Jak getting dragged over the coals by his boss Kirkan, the leader of the Immortals, sorcerous special forces soldiers serving on the front lines of the Everwar. What's an Everwar, you ask? It sound's cool and evocative; don't overthink it. But we did legitimately laugh out loud at the 0:55 mark, so credit where it's due.

How are you feeling about Immortals of Aveum? Will you be checking it out next month, on 22nd August, or will the arrayed or imminent forces of Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, Baldur's Gate 3, and some Starfield game we keep hearing about prove too powerful to overcome? I’m pumped for this game was bummed it got delayed a month. I’m always for trying new I.p. especially one that is unique like this
I'm still very much intrigued by the mixture of sci-fi and fantasy. However, I don't know enough based on what has been shown so far. I'm also not well-versed in first-person gameplay. I hope they roll out a demo in the coming weeks.
Just feel like gameplay will get old pretty quick. There doesn’t seem to be a genuine variety in spells from what I’ve seen, they’re all variations of shooting with some defensive ones. But maybe the final game has more depth.
Shiny Hexen for those old enough to remember it....?
Getting some serious Anthem vibes from this game.
I think I would play this at some point but I'm definitely on board with a straight up AAA single player shooter campaign, you don't really get them as much as you used to.
Whoa, whoa, whoa… unnecessary swipes at Forspoken, you know? I get that there’s practically four fans of the game here, but c’mon!
But speaking on this game, I definitely agree that it looks as generic as possible for such a unique concept. I hope there’s a demo, however. I’d try it, at least. While I haven’t liked anything I’ve seen of the game, I’m highly supportive of a campaign based FPS. We do not have enough of them these days.
@Perturbator oh man I don't think it looks that bad. it looks kind of generic and average but I don't think it will be a catastrophe like Anthem
This looks like if Ghostwire: Tokyo and Forspoken had a baby and it was adopted by Horizon: Forbidden West and was named by a 13year old D&D enthusiast.
@Logonogo Personally I think it looks even worse, but I'm probably not the target audience for this, tbh. The Destiny crowd is, so it depends how they feel about it.
Is that Gina Torres? Ok buying no matter what.
I’m enjoying Forspoken so far.
