Accessibility is, mercifully, an enormous part of the industry these days – and Mortal Kombat 1 is no exception. While developer NetherRealm Studios’ efforts should certainly be recognised, the results also include this amusing audio description of one of Li Mei’s fatalities. In it, a narrator describes in intricate detail how the character rips open her opponent’s stomach, removing their intestines.
Obviously, this extra work will help make the game more enjoyable to many people, and that’s the most important part. Still, it’s quite comical hearing the franchise’s ghastly cartoonish gore described in such intense and intricate detail. We might even consider keeping the narration on while playing, just for the giggles!

I don't know why, but I find the fatality are more off putting than the old game. Maybe because now graphics are more realistic so it doesn't seems as funny as the old game anymore.
Never once thought blind people could/would play Mortal Kombat but I’m stoked that they went to this length to include everyone.. the more the merrier I say.. I call dibs on Kenshi tho 🙃

Considering all the of Kameo roster also have fatalities … that’s a lot of fatalities to describe
I was watching Netflix’s The Queen with my blind mother, using the descriptive audio feature, when out of the blue a sex scene began. Now, it’s always uncomfortable to have to sit through these with your mom, but I thought it wouldn’t be so awkward since she couldn’t see it.
That’s when the narrator started with the very detailed play-by-play of the events on the screen. So much worse than just watching in embarrassed silence. We never discussed it, but we never watched that show again. Couldn’t risk it.
That absurdly over-the-top fatality was even more entertaining with the descriptive audio. Love it.
Thanks Lara Croft, very cool!
Jokes aside it's really cool that games are getting more and more accessibility options.
This is funny. Looking at MK1 footage i have recently come to realise their hit sounds are tiring. Not sure why it sounds like that.
Wish they would change that. It's not something that bothers me on other fighters but the MK one is especially annoying sounding.
@wiiware Yeah... I'm with you. They are kinda just gross now. Like, in the wincing kinda way rather than the hilarious kind of way.
@NinjaNicky LESS gore please lol! That’s what gets games unreleased in Japan. I still can’t play the Dead Space remake and The Callisto Protocol here
Possibly the funniest accessibility feature in gaming history; it's both absolutely fantastic in order to have as many people as possible be able to enjoy MK1 while also being absolutely hilarious to listen to outside of the context D
gameplay- nope
fun factor - nope
pretty graphics and gore porn - yes
@NinjaNicky I want blood and guts in Mario Kart 9
@wiiware sometimes less is more
Forgive me if I’m being ignorant here, but how does a totally blind person play a game like Mortal Kombat?
It’s great that there is an accessibility option for hearing fatalities but you’ve gotta win a match and perform the fatality first!
