Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery – or so they say! Project Mugen, the upcoming PS5 and PS4 gacha game from Netease subsidiary Naked Rain, is certainly testing that theory, as fans have noticed similarities between its traversal gameplay and Insomniac’s various Marvel’s Spider-Man games. To be fair, it’s undeniable – we even mentioned it in our announcement article on the game.
To be fair, it seems that Project Mugen is pulling inspiration from a variety of different sources: it has Grand Theft Auto-like vehicular traversal, Genshin Impact-esque character action combat, and even over-the-shoulder third-person shooter skirmishes. None of this is necessarily a bad thing, of course: if it can fuse all these disparate elements effectively, it could be a lot of fun to play.
The proof, as always, will be in the pudding, though. Project Mugen certainly looks promising in its debut trailer, but it’s going to need to prove it can stick the landing first.

What in the ... is a "gacha" ? I feel as though i need to learn japanese to read this site nowadays 😃
I will not be smashing my ps4 in a public display of attention rage over this. 🤷🏼
That's pretty cool, I hope the swinging is as good and as fun as insomniac spider-man 😃
@Smiffy01 Basically like toy capsules. Where you "spend" in-game currency (which can also be purchased with real money) for a chance to unlock a character: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gacha_game
Removed - unconstructive
@IndoorEnthusiast haha, my first thought
@get2sammyb and @Powerplay94 Cheers guys i just learned what Kaiju and Kunio-kun were last week 😃
Not even slightly interested in free to play games. What’s the point they never end lol
@Mikey856 The point is that they never end. Haha
I don't mind playing free-to-play games as long as the ways the developer earns money isn't super predatory or anything.
Problem is, almost every free-to-play has predatory methods of making money, especially Gacha games.
That’s not similarities, that’s downright stolen animations. Avoid at all costs.
@Mikey856 the point they made money that why
@Constable_What is that a good thing though. Your playing something that has no final goal. No true end no period where you look back and reflect on the journey you had through the game its just a constantly moving forward with no time to reflect until one day the servers go down and thats it, instead of going out with a bang it just fades away. Every game should have an end not just because its great for reflecting but also because if you plan for your game to keep going it means you don't have an end in mind and all it takes is your game to fade from obscurity and then you won't be able to send it off with a true conclusion. It has already happened with avengers and babylons fall and it will happen again.
@Smiffy01 how'd you manage to evade the meaning of Kaiju for so long 😮Especially with Legendary's monsterverse franchise growing and toho movies lately
@Cherip-the-Ripper I know, honestly life eh the only thing i remember toho was the intro to super aleste on the snes where the voiceover man says "presented by toho" great game btw 👌
@CaptainRPG Avengers and Babylon's Fall weren't F2P tho? And they also sucked.
And a lot of people, myself included, like to have a game they can go back to every day or week and there be something new to do. Take any Mihoyo game like Honkai Impact 3rd, Gemshin Impact, or Honkai Star Rail. Quality games that are iterated on over the course of years.
Or Warframe. Or Fortnite. Or the many many others of F2P games that are successful.
It isn't good or bad really. Saying F2P is bad because they don't end is like saying what's the point FPS games because you can't see your guy. It makes no sense. They exist and there's a place for them, obviously, in the industry.
I guess the ending is when you stop playing it, and the cool thing about successful F2P is you can go back to it and see what's changed. I mean what's the point of a career if you're just gonna retire? Or the point of life if you're just gonna die?
The point is that you experienced what you did, what you could, and what you wanted.
Dammit, the saying is NOT “the proof is in the pudding”, it’s “the proof of the pudding is in the eating”!
@get2sammyb So the Asian way of selling loot boxes. 🤣
@Constable_What Really just like the second i heard the Walking would never tend I dropped the same day.
@Flaming_Kaiser Uh. What?
To be fair Insomniac ripped off the Batman Arkham games with their combat system
@nessisonett not stolen 😂. Very similar yes but they haven’t stolen the actual animation
@ArmoredMore You can't really prove it either way, but they could've ripped the game's animation files and straight up copied them. It's not that difficult.
@Octane well you can look at them side-by-side and see they’re not the exact same animations
Seriously, this happened one time with bleak faith stealing from Elden ring. Chill PEOPLE!
@Mikey856
That's why I've never managed to get into them. I like games that show me a 100% list and I can choose what to do or ignore. Once its completed, I move on or play the multiplayer from time to time.
A game with no ending isn't for me.
@Constable_What When I heard that the walking was a never ending series i stopped watching it straight away.
