Larian Studios' month-long victory tour continues, with Baldur's Gate 3 earning accolades from players and critics to a frankly ridiculous extent on PC. Not content with humbly enjoying the lavish praise of fans and the jealous envy of competitors, the plucky outfit is again making promises that might sound insane from virtually any other studio: that the PS5 iteration of the massive RPG will reflect the state of the PC version at launch and moving forwards.
As anyone playing Baldur's Gate 3 on PC right now can attest, Larian has been smashing out fixes and patches at a manic pace since last Friday (including a big one), no doubt under the exacting gaze of Knight Commander Swen Vincke.
We've been putting together our Baldur's Gate 3 guide and can verify the game is in a shockingly good state right now (and performs well on Steam Deck, too). This is exciting news because, selfishly, while the PC iteration is good and all, it's the PS5 release we truly crave. Larian Studios' director of publishing, Michael Douse, confirmed the happy news on X, responding to a fan query.
Do you think Larian Studios has the nerve to stick the landing on PS5? Do you think the massive success of Baldur's Gate 3 will be reflected on PlayStation, or is it a PC phenomenon? Let us know in the comments below.

Of course its going to be a massive hit on the playstation. I'm not so sure you guys are really in touch with your user base at pushsquare because the comments section has been very positive (for once) in the build up to its release and that should give you the perspective you require. Its not a day one purchase for me but i will give it a go over the dreary winter months as i'll be requiring something to keep me going. Diablo 4,lies of p,lords of the fallen and this have secured my immediate gaming future.
As long as Larian supports cross progression and eventually release a physical ps5 version I might consider getting the game again. Plays fine on the deck, but I wouldn't mind split screen couch coop with my wife.
@tameshiyaku I think cross progression is possible via a Larian account. They talk about it a bit in one of their updates on steam. Over of the reasons I decided to dive in on the Deck ahead of the ps5 launch.
This is probably gonna be the game that the next Dragon Age gets compared to. Hopefully they get a kick in the but over there at EA!
BG 3 is probably the greatest CRPG ever made. The amount of freedom and depth to its gameplay is nothing short of genius. Larian outdid themselves here. Will maybe consider getting a PS5 version too to couch co-op with my GF, but maybe not. I'll just have to see, but I'll be playing BG3 on my PC for a long long time
heckk yeahhh.. excited af for this even thou I will suck hard at start..
Maybe it will sell well on ps because all the hype from pc and the lack of 1rst party titles the whole year but I doubght ps players will ever finish it, this is a crpg and the ps user base is mostly casuals players playing actions games mostly.
The reviews have me interested. I’ll be honest, it all looks a bit complicated and overwhelming. I struggled to get into Divinity but I am tempted to give this a go.
This game will be a massive time sink, but I'm prepared. Games like this are amazing to get lost in, the first 2 were some of my favourites on PC, and hopefully it will be able to grab my attention like Witcher 3 did.
Just did the driver update, hopefully the frame rate gets better.
As it was running poorly when I last played 🙏
Not a typical type of game I usually play, but I am feeling a little swept up by the hype and the response to the PC version.
If the performance is good on PS5 (sounds like no reason why not) then I may well dip my toe back into D&D, which I probably did seriously last time when BG1 came out on PC back in the 90's.
@NoToSheep how does it suit 'fashion souls' types, who prefer to look cool rather than protect themselves vs damage 😁 I suspect not so well, as it's all a big math based game where numbers are important, but it'd be cool if I could ignore numbers somewhat 👀
@tameshiyaku seeing they self publish this they might not do physical it costs too much of money
This is the couch co op game me and the misses always wanted!
After having to endure all the jokes from my friends about games like GTA and Horizon that consoles are beta testing it for the true PC release. Its nice to see it the other way around, PC beta testing baldur for us
Am hyped for this. Definitely my next purchase but I have to finish Zelda first. Going to be a long time before I get around to BG3!
You know, I wonder if waiting a month will be a blessing depending on the number of fixes. I understand that Original Sin 2 got so many updates that said "requires a new game" in a 100+ hour game like anyone who played before the update had time for that. If they change or fix anything with stuff you're stuck with the entire game, I'll be very glad for the months wait. I hope they don't do that again though.
This will be the most unreplayable but most replayable game ever made.
I would caution people about getting this day one. I'm loving the game but please wait for the all clear from reviewers that is playable before spending your money. PS generally doesn't offer refunds or support that is worth anything if you have issues. Hopefully it's a smooth launch.
I cant frickin wait, but I'm holding out for a physical release, that was a contradiction in terms 😅
Hopefully they'll squash the bugs out. I'm.sure the console players are going to have a surprise at the menu and item selections .. erk.
Played it on a ps5 controller via steam...wasn't bad but .... keyboard and mouse is so much better
I bought the PC version and was using my PS5 controller to play and have to say I almost quit playing until I switched to KB and mouse. I'm sure that some will have no issues with the controller schematics but I wasn't even enjoying the game until I got rid of the controller. The R1/L1 for spells etc was brutal, at least to me.
@tselliot then again, I've watched a number of YouTubers who are preferring to play with a controller.
Just going to depend on the individual I think.
I am switch user and there is a lot of hate for BG3 cause it may take away GOTY from TOTK, and they ain't having it. I hope it runs well on the PS5 cause that is what I am getting it on.
@zimbogamer people who think like that are babies.
@SterlingEyes After playing Divinity Original sin 2 on ps4, this was the game i was most looking forward to the last 3 years.
give that game a go as mechanics and game style will be similar. the controller setting are very intuitive too.
Already pre-ordered, no hesitation! Larian has gone above and beyond and listens to the players! A game of this caliber does not come along everyday on consoles. 2 weeks off to enjoy the hype!!
Decided to pre order this for the PS5. Would have got it for PC if mine was capable and would have been a great way to pass time until Starfield. Now I will play both together before Enternights and the Cyberpunk 2077 DLC come out later in the month.
