Following a very short delay of roughly one day, Patch 3 for Baldur's Gate 3 is available to download now on PS5. And Larian Studios wasn't lying — it really is a massive update (that weighs in at just 8GB, thankfully), making all sorts of adjustments to gameplay systems, balancing, and technical performance.
The patch notes are unsurprisingly gigantic and detailed — to the point where they're too big to paste into this article — so we've gone ahead and cherrypicked the broader changes.
Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 3 Patch Notes
- A Magic Mirror that lets you change your appearance is now available at camp!
- The colours on the PS5 controller will now match elemental damage types more closely.
- Improved performance in the Lower City. More to come!
- Made dye colours more intense and more visible on some armours. This will only affect newly dyed items.
- Level Up will now queue all characters who can be levelled up so you don't have to click on them individually.
- Optimised how the game handles object selection on controller.
- Updated the Character Sheet on controller to place active Conditions above the list of Notable Features.
- Loads of specific crash and bug fixes.
- Made many optimisations to make sure we reach our quality FPS target in most, if not all, regions of the game, stabilising 30 FPS on Quality Mode. We're continuing to work hard at stabilising 60 FPS.
- Made several optimisations when moving around the world on controller.
- Loads of specific combat adjustments.
- Loads of specific gameplay adjustments.
- Loads of quest fixes and reworks.
- Loads of controller optimisations.
- Loads of animation bug fixes.
- Loads of dialogue reworks and adjustments.
- Loads of audio fixes.

Great, I hope the combat slow-downs I've been having will also start to disappear with this patch. Waiting 5-10 seconds for an NPC to finish a turn as it stands there doing nothing is annoying.
I'm also glad the magic mirror is also there now.
Just as an interesting tidbit: the patch notes are 141,736 characters long (minus the title). Push Square's review of Baldur's Gate 3 has 12,651 characters (minus the title and subtitle).
Conclusion? The patch notes are roughly 11.2x longer than the game review on this site. Incredible.
@extragood Wow, that's insane. Thanks for taking the time to check!
This is the only game I've been playing since its PS5 release. I have limited game time but I'm about 33 hours in and loving it. That said, patches are almost always welcome 😁
Seeing 8gb threw me earlier! But great to see so much work going into it, hopefully Act 3 will be stable by the time I reach there!
Awesome, look forward to trying this out tomorrow. I hadn’t noticed screen tear when I started, but there does seem to be a bit in the top and bottom quarters. Hopefully it sorts that out. Such a great game!
Maybe a Christmas physical release? One can hope.
Awesome! Now I can finally start playing Act 3!
Love this game and its ludicrous support! Thank you, Larian!!!
My quest log is about as long as these patch notes 😁😁😁
I keep thinking i'm in Act II, but I've just realised how much there is to do in the underdark, so i'll definitely have forgotten why I'm doing anything by the time I get out of here, and I love it 😆
@Ravix I had a very 'Elden Ring' moment, the first time I made it to the underdark!
82 hours and I’m still in Act 1! Such good dialogue too, can’t stand games full of repeated expositional nonsense and filler. This ain’t that
I've got a weird glitch where the tool-tips keep collapsing every 5 seconds or so if I'm selecting a new sword or shield. It's annoying but not game breaking. This patch didn't fix it, tried Googling but can't see anyone has something similar. Any one here?
Back? Haha, I only scratched the surface 🥲
I have a job, and a child and i need to sleep and...yeah.
No game like this has ever been on my radar, but from what I hear about it, I'm actually pretty excited to find it for like $30 one day and give it a shot with a friend.
@J2theEzzo with the joy of discovery feeling, or... the getting absolutely wrecked feeling 😁
(I found a certain monster to be quite easy, as I've somehow ended up quite over powered, but it was still a cool moment.)
@GuttyYZ I have that sometimes. I was wondering if it was caused by slight stick drift, as it sounds like the controller has moved onto a new item when it does it.
I'm getting a bit of general inventory menu lag in the underdark too, not something I noticed in the other areas.
@DrVenture69 I can't believe some people rushed through this and were like "its actually quite short" I thought me just about clearing map one meant I'd be in act II.
It.
Did.
Not.
😁
One and a half more maps cleared later, I'm still in act I, with all the momentum and driving force towards act II in a tiny segment at the tip of my quest log iceberg. (I must remember to actually upgrade and use Mr. Druid at some point, as it was kind of him that suggested where to go in the first place, but that was many moons ago, and he's just been stood in camp since haha)
@DrVenture69 As much as I'm loving Starfield.......... complaint 1a, that very thing ON top of pretty bad dialogs
The guys at Larian seem to like loads of text.
@Ravix, I’m starting to think this will be a 400 hour game for me (and I wanted to replay Elden Ring this year😂).
@CallMeDuraSouka, Starfield looks great, I’m glad there’s a really good Xbox exclusive, just wished that and Elder Scrolls 6 were timed so we could get them on the PS5 at some point. Padded dialog is a pain though. I can’t bring myself to get an Xbox, and I can’t be bothered with PC gaming any more (just too lazy!). You never know, maybe in the future.
@GuttyYZ Yeah, I get that, they vanish and re-appear constantly.
@Ravix More-so the discovery part, yup. Enjoyed every moment so far, and likewise feeling pretty powerful! Just dipped into Act 2 at around level 7.
@GuttyYZ I've had that a few times with different bits of gear, yup.
I've not bought this yet, but this gives me hope:
"We're continuing to work hard at stabilising 60 FPS."
Larian are treating this game like Hello treated NMS. This game isn't even broken as far as I know (thanks, early access). That is some quite admirable commitment.
@VideoGameBoy 100% worth a look I've never played anything like bg3 and only have good things to say
Wowwe! These DevOps are greatly enhancing the game.
This game needs a physical release.
