Outright Games has revealed it's developing a sequel to the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem movie as a game for PC and consoles, launching next year. It will be set months after the events of the film and feature visuals inspired by the big-screen flick.
"Combining energetic ninja teamwork gameplay with a humorous narrative, players will take control of the Turtles as they interact with a host of memorable characters from the franchise and fight to save this stylized take on New York City from a new mutant threat," a press release said. No other details are mentioned. With a focus on experiences for families, Outright Games has in the past published Peppa Pig: World Adventures and Star Trek Prodigy: Supernova.
Doug Rousen, SVP of games and emerging media at Paramount, said: "It’s exciting to launch our first console game set in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem universe, especially as the franchise only continues to grow. The vibrancy of this new film’s animation lends itself perfectly to video games, and we can’t wait for everyone to play it."

not for me, I only play adult games.
@nitram2k11 You sure sound like a lot of fun 😂
Also if anybody hasn't watch mutant mayhem yet I defo recommend it. Great film
@homelesscretin Please respect my stuffs, I hate kids games.
Eeh pass on this I'll get The Last Ronin game though
@homelesscretin I feel like the movie should have been more popular. I liked the Mario movie for what it was - but I thought TMNT was much, much better. And I am not a turtles fan in the slightest. It was just well done all-around.
@Cashews Agreed. TMNT (and Spiderverse) were much better than Mario.
Where TMNT was a clear love letter to the franchise, Mario felt like someone read a wiki article on Super Mario and smashed stuff together.
Haven't seen the movie but I'll give any Turtles game a try
Not seen the film yet, but it looks like a lot of fun. I’m interested in this, but given the developer’s history I don’t have high hopes.
The only Turtles sequel I´m interested is for TMNT: Shredder's Revenge. Awesome game!
@Gbarsotini dlc just came out - august 31. Grats you got your sequel.
@Cashews Unfortunately the turtles just aren't as popular as they once were. And it's no surprise really, as the 2014 and 2016 live action films really tarnished the brand. Hopefully though this is the start of a TMNT renaissance.
Also regarding Mario's box office performance, I think people really understate just how massive of an ip Mario it is. It was destined to make dosh regardless of quality.
As someone that’s been essentially following the Turtles since I was born, I loved Mutant Mayhem. It might be, objectively speaking, the best version of the Turtles. However, that developer making the game is like slapping a big biohazard sticker on the box for its contents. I hope I’m wrong.
@Cashews I watched it after your nice words on a different article btw and really liked it. Thanks for the recommendation!
@homelesscretin how'd it tarnish the brand? I thought the movies were well received?
Based on the cited output from the publisher this looks like it will be more of a cheap cash-in
@homelesscretin I wasn't surprised about Mario - maybe exactly HOW much money it made - but not that it was popular. It also didn't hurt that it had some pretty huge VAs doing the work.
It seems the movie did well enough - especially since the big hitters couldn't promote it because of the strike. I hope it gets a sequel the artwork and VA were top notch. I'm really enjoying the fact that cartoons taking chances on animation style - like Spiderverse and TMNT - are getting more attention than the super-tired Disney style of soulless CGI.
I love this film, but I'm not sure if I can trust the developers of Crayola Scoot and Ice Age: Scrat's Nutty Adventure with an adaptation of this film.
@nitram2k11 hello kitty island adventure?
@nitram2k11 gaming is for kids
@nitram2k11 Oh my god, its the anti-Anti Matter :0
@nitram2k11 I was originally gonna ignore this comment, but I do feel like I have to say this.
The definition for kid games are so loose that I have no idea what you mean. Do you mean E-rated/7-rated games in general or anything below a 15/T? Is Mario a kids game or is it just a game targeted towards kids? What about Ratchet and Clank, or even Spider-Man? Spider-Man is a franchise targeted towards kids, so someone sees the games as kiddie. What about Tetris, Kirby, Minecraft, Roblox, Super Smash Bros, Little Big Planet?
You can't just say "I hate kids games". There's so many games that fit that criteria that it's just weird to say that. Now if you said something more specific, like low quality kids games, games from Outright, shovelware, it would be much more understandable.
TL;DR: Saying "I hate kids games" is too broad since many games or franchises could fit into that term and you should be more specific.
It also comes off as unwilling to try new things, but yeah, that's about it.
@homelesscretin the mario movie marketing was perfect.
Where tmnt was just not good at all.
Ugly scary characters and while the style was something new youre not going to get people to go to a superhero tmnt movie if they have spaghetti thin arms.
Tmnt has never been big in the box office.
It is not spiderman where the worst spiderman movies get 700 million in box office sales.
The biggest tmnt movie was the 2014 michael bay one.
Great movie, well surpassed my expectations
I enjoyed the Mario movie but this new Turtles films art style just doesn't do it for me. Don wearing glasses and April's looks to be reaching out for inclusivity which just boils my p**"
I didn't really like the Michael bay turtles films either.
They should have just rebooted the 90s turtles films
