Art direction is what makes a game truly memorable in a visual sense, and it's fair to say that Vanillaware is a master of the craft. The Japanese developer has been creating gorgeous titles for generations now, and its latest effort, Unicorn Overlord, looks to be another jaw-dropping work of art.
Vanillaware's trademark style is fully intact here, and the game's medieval fantasy setting gives the studio license to craft some lovely armour designs and picturesque countryside landscapes. Based on what we know so far, Unicorn Overlord is a character-based strategy RPG that incorporates player choice and leans heavily into levelling up and enhancing your ever-growing army.
If you like the look of this one, we'd strongly recommend checking out the Vanillaware games that have just been added to PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium. The selection includes the excellent 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, stunning dungeon crawler Dragon's Crown, and immense Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir. It's fair to say that expectations are high for Unicorn Overlord.
Unicorn Overlord is coming to PS5 and PS4 in March next year, but are you excited for Vanillaware's return? Gather your troops just so you can gawk at the scenery in the comments section below.

Visually stunning, but found the game play loop Dragons Crown kinda boring.. to each their own.
I absolutely loved 13 Sentinels. Legitimately one of the very best PS4 had to offer so I will absolutely keep an eye on this one.
Can't wait for the game, vanillaware always delivers
Also their art styles is gorgeous, nearly every screenshots in here or their other titles (like dragon crown) is wallpaper worthy.
@SonOfPSXDave I'd say that Dragon's Crown is the weakest of their titles that I've played. 13 Sentinels, Odin Sphere and Muramasa are all much better offerings.
@Steelhead Holding out hope for a Muramasa Rebirth port. It was so good on the Vita.
Vanillaware games always looks amazing.unicorn overlord looks excellent.word up son
Yes! Loved 13 Aegis though Odin Sphere I think was over rated. This Unicorn Head definitely looks edible.
I don't see it. Looks basic as hell to me.
I recently tried Odin Sphere. While I can appreciate the game, this genre is not for me and would feel like a chore to play. I am more into 13 sentinels because of its narrative focus.
