Two legendary game designers, Swery65 (Deadly Premonition) and Suda51 (No More Heroes), are collaborating on a new game, titled Hotel Barcelona. We've just been treated to our first look at what the game looks like, and it's a side-scrolling action game with a tongue-in-cheek vibe and, of course, plenty of bloodshed.
The premise is that the titular location is filled with American serial killers, all stuck in a time loop and pitted against crazy enemies inspired by horror movies. With your deceased past selves to help you, you'll be platforming and mowing down enemies with a range of weapons, with boss characters parodying the likes of Jaws, Halloween, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and more.
It looks pretty bonkers (and, let's be honest, pretty rough), but a collab from this pair is at least worth checking out. The game is set to hit PS5 sometime next year. What do you make of Hotel Barcelona? Let us know in the comments section below.

Literally my dream team. All you need is Kamiya and that plastic fella from Yakuza and it’s the Avengers of the best of mental Japanese games from the 00s.
Looks good. The map in the bottom right of the screen reminds me of Odin Sphere Leifthrasir.
On a side note, I wonder if Deadly Premonition 2 will ever see a PS5 release.
I am all in on this despite any jank it may have, or rough around th edges gameplay. It looks fantastic, and some of my favorite games this year have been less than mainstream (looking at you Wanted Dead).
They should have called it “Hotel Barcelona 116” 🤔
@Bentleyma I'm sure I remember reading somewhere that Nintendo partially funded Deadly Premonitions 2 so I think it would likely stay exclusive to Switch.
@ErrantRob I loved Wanted Dead too. You can't beat a janky game with personality.
@__jamiie Oh that’s a shame. I guess I’ll just have to play through it on Switch.
Sounds like they are are fans of Neil Gaiman's Sandman: Mystery Theatre. Storyline mimics one that ran through the first season.
The premise is interesting and I like 2D games, so I'm in 😃
Haha. The two Japanese developers that I have to stop for a second to remember who did what games. Joining forces to confuse me even more. At least I’ll be right no matter which one I guess for this game.🤔
so they are finally teaming up huh? long time coming! unfortunately, this is not the game i was hoping for
Why do they both have numbers in their name?
Interesting idea. If as good as Splatterhouse then sure. A 2D hack n slash would be nice. Not into horror genres (played a few horror games that are more low level) but still cool,
Looks better than AHS Hotel, which had a similar premise yet also stunk. A giant baby marionette boss is both welcome and creepy.
@__jamiie little delayed with my response but it’s so nice to see someone who enjoyed that for what it was too!
@ErrantRob Some of my favourite games ever have been ones that mainstream reviewers wouldn't touch with a barge pole.
