If you haven't been keeping an eye on early 2024, we'd encourage you to do so. The current release schedule is, quite frankly, absurd. In the space of just under two months, we're getting:
- Alone in the Dark - 16th January
- Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown - 18th January
- Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth - 26th January
- Tekken 8 - 26th January
- Granblue Fantasy: Relink - 1st February
- Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League - 2nd February
- Persona 3 Reload - 2nd February
- Helldivers 2 - 8th February
- Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft - 14th February
- Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth - 29th February
- Unicorn Overlord - 8th March
And now, it looks like things could somehow get even crazier. The latest rumour is that Elden Ring's anticipated expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, will drop in early February — or on the 5th, to be more precise. This is according to Elden Ring YouTuber Ziostorm, who has been fairly accurate with Elden Ring-related updates in the past.
The DLC's launch would follow on from a fresh showing at The Game Awards, apparently — although that's an easy assumption to make, seeing as FromSoftware seems to be best mates with Geoff Keighley.
If Shadow of the Erdtree really does hit in February, we're officially in overkill territory. We can't help but wonder whether something has to give, because that clutch of new releases — from Like a Dragon through to Helldivers 2 — is brutal.
Would you take Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree in February next year? Or are you desperate for some room to breathe? Plan a trip back to the Lands Between in the comments section below.

Hands up who'll be able to remember any of the controls in 2024?
This is why I'm a fan of early DLC.
To each their own, but Elden ring will be the only thing that interests me off of that list. So at least there will be something.
If Shadow Of The Erd Tree were to launch in February that would EASILY be my number one game to buy over everything else.
To each their own… but there’s no must buy for me in this list, maybe try Final Fantasy, Like a Dragon, Prince of Persia and Alone in the dark if they ever come to ps plus extra or get dirt cheap.
But Elden Ring DLC might be nice, I guess I’ll know when I’ll try Elden Ring… just haven’t been a fan or their other title for now… but I heard Elden ring my be different…
The only thing ridiculous about that schedule is that I'm not interested in any of it. Smh
RPG fans are eating really, really good. Just too much!
Don’t forget Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden in that mix. Honestly, I feel like, for me, tossing in that Elden Ring DLC wouldn’t topple me. If that does hit, I might put off getting Tekken right away due to my own budget, but FF7 is the only essential title for me in that list and I’ve already preordered it. In fact, for me right now, 2024 looks sort of light for my personal tastes in comparison to the motherlode that has been 2023.
Now, that said, jeez, it’s been a long time since I played Elden Ring. My purchasing the DLC would also be contingent on how good I still have to be at the game to jump in perhaps. If it’s harder than the base game, I dunno if I want to replay it for DLC. Lol.
Came in here to make fun of including whatever the hell Unicorn Overlord is. Googled it, then remembered it was the new Vanillaware game. Damnit that's probably another day one buy from me.
We don’t really know anything about the Elden Ring dlc other than the name do we? Hard to know what sales will be like with that little info to go on. I played the base game on PS5 for over 300 hours but my kid wants the game and dlc on Steam so I’ll probably never play this.
Agree with the others above about not really wanting anything on that upcoming release list besides FF7R 2, but I probably won’t play that either, just watch my kid play it next summer, current plan is to buy it for them for their birthday. I may finally catch up on my backlog next year.👍
@Anke I've been saying that games (especially sequels) should embrace the "what happened on the last..." feature that a lot of TV shows nowadays use. Letting players jump in at entry 2, or 3, or helping lapsed players come back after long breaks between DLC drops should be a priority.
I can watch a show that drops episodes weekly, and that will have a "what just happened" recap, but I'll play a game whose last installment was 5+ years ago and they just dump you in and expect to remember every single little detail and story beat.
It's bonkers to me.
Elden ring is a masterpiece.more games is always welcome.word up son
I need to play the base game first. Too many games, too few hours in the day.
I am trying to at least play all the Dark Souls games first, so I have DS2 lined up to play hopefully later this year.
As for the other early 2024 releases (and it feels crazy to think that 2024 is less than 3 months away), I probably will only get FF7 Rebirth from that list, but could be swayed on a couple others depending on reviews. Really curious if that Suicide Squad game is going to be the dumpster fire that the preview trailers showed.
It's nice to see I'm still not missing much on PS5 as it enters its 4th year on the market. The only game from that list that I'm interested in is also on PS4.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink - 1st February
Helldivers 2 - 8th February
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth - 29th February
Unicorn Overlord - 8th March
Elden Ring DLC
Who has the flippin time???
I wish I felt that way. The only two that interest me from that list are Tekken and Helldivers. When it comes down to it, Helldivers may not even turn out well due to it being SOMEWHAT untested waters for the developer.
Probably the most underwhelming 'ridiculous list' I have ever read
Ridiculous schedule? The only thing I can think of is just… meh. To each their own I guess, but I have to dig really deep to come up with a game that launches in 2024 that I’m genuinely excited for. A lot of titles are still MIA and that is really starting to worry me.
Only LAD for me. Don't care about the rest.
As someone who tends to play games months, even years after they come out, I don't mind this at all.
Here are the ones I'm interested in:
1. Tekken 8
2. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
3. Unicorn Overlord
4. Granblue Fantasy: Relink
5. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
6. Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth
7. Persona 3 Reload
FF7 Rebirth just looks insane & Helldivers 2 is an absolute must by the looks of it! Can’t believe the price too, £35 in the uk.
Sorry Elden Ring, you'll be playing 3rd fiddle to Rebirth and Relink. Not sure why publishers think it's a good idea to dump all of this in one month. You would think this year would teach them to spread out a bit.
@Shepherd_Tallon No one, that's who! This is legitimately ridiculous.
Not the banger of a release window you are making it out to be by any means.
I get it though, gotta hype something, and there sure isn't anything on the Sony front worth hyping post Spiderboy. More elden ring almost feels too late despite the hundreds of hrs I put into that platinum. It would have to be a sizeable standalone adventure at this point, but even then it's tough to go back to a game they never technically polished still running on a very dated engine.
Looking forward to a proper next Gen souls like in Lord's of the Fallen though! Two more days!
@Anke Yep, same here. When I played the Yuffie DLC for FFVII Remake, I repeatedly died to two dog enemies about 15 minutes into the DLC. I saw various streamers having the same problem too.
@3Above I think we're saturated in franchises these days. 🫠
I can see myself leaving Helldivers until later in the year maybe, but the others are games that I'm very hyped for.
Tekken and Persona are the only things that interests me from that list and I don't buy fighting games till there's a ultimate edition with everything included.
As for Persona I don't plan to pay full price for a Atlus game till they start treating PS owners like they treat Xbox, so is hardly a monster month for me at least
FF7 Rebirth is the only one tickling my fancy there at the moment.
Burnt out on Elden Ring, but will probably get the DLC anyway.
@Shepherd_Tallon yeah iv just resigned myself to that fact I won't complete all these game for along time. I'll circle back to them as time permits. But Gran Blue Fantasy Relink and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth are Day 1s for me.
Based on the sloppy mess we got at launch, I'll wait for a few rounds of From chaotic rebalancing before I dip a toe into the DLC. Not worried about spoilers, ER's story didn't do it for me at all
I don’t know what’s so ridiculous about this rather short list, but I’m definitely extremely hyped for the ER expansion. Although I also want to do a rerun/ng+ of the base game (I hope this can be combined) plus want to finally play other From games as well.
Depending on the day, I might not get it Day 1 - chances are I'll still be playing Like a Dragon 8.
Then there's Rebirth on Feb 29th, so I'd need to do Shadow of the Erdtree before that day... but that sounds doable enough.
I mean, eh? There's really not that much of interest to me. That new Prince of Persia looks like a lot of fun, and I'll obviously be picking up FF Rebirth. But other than that it's kind of a dull release schedule
It does seem like it’s been a long time since they game released, I did want to replay it. At the same time my backlog is so big I feel like I could spend the next year just getting through the games I already own
I feel like this comment section won't be satisfied until GTA 6, Elder Scrolls VI, Half Life 3 and Jak 4 release in the same month.
How on earth can you downplay this release schedule and act like this isn't incredibly out of the ordinary for January/February? Just new Yakuza, Tekken and Final Fantasy games alone would've made this a way bigger start than most years.
@3Above Same for me. Those two are unmissable.
The others I can come back to later in the year when there's time. (If there's time)
Not a great list and zero announcements from Sony on in-house AAA single player games for 2024. Not one title, no gameplay or release dates.
I’m very suspicious they are this quiet for 2024.
By now we normally have gameplay showcase and release dates for 2024 for their top in house single player AAA games.
I'll just get the inevitable complete edition when it releases at some point and I'm ready to play it again.
@Matroska glad it's not just me getting old then
@3Above I do agree that it seems like some publishers don’t strategize their release dates very well.
In fairness, this Jan-Feb window has some big games but they are slightly different genres and won’t be necessarily competing against each other directly. I guess Granblue and FF7 are probably vying for the same crowd. And maybe Helldivers and Suicide Squad overlap, as do the 2D side-scrollers PoP and Unicorn.
But even though there’s a variety in that release period, there’s only so many games one can play at a time.
What?
Only Alone in the Dark COULD be good...the rest im not interested in..
For me, Elden Ring DLC takes precedence on that list. FF7 is the only other one I’d consider without doing research on the others. I suppose Alone in the Dark may be a contender but I know nothing about this new entry, so…
@Shepherd_Tallon Me because i cant stand rpgs lol
Tekken and final fantasy are my day one buys.
On the fence with gran blue. Have a feeling sucide squad will flop hard
Though I enjoy the Like A Dragon games, I'm still very much behind on that series. So there's not a lot of point in me getting the new one straight away. I am excited for the Tomb Raider remasters though.
If this comes out in February then it's all over for me. Game over man.
