Konami has released the latest patch for the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1, which addresses various issues and bugs afflicting the controversial port.
The Master Collection bundles together some of the most iconic games in the series, a blessing for fans, but not one without flaws. Konami does seem to have committed to getting the titles included in better shape, which is something at least. "But there's still a long way to go."
And yet you guys still gave this an 8/10? In most scoring systems that would be a solid title with only a couple of forgivable problems.
Played all three games on the PS5 and didn’t even encounter 1 single bug, so what’s with the ‘still a long way to go’?
It’s a very solid release (no pun intended), Spider-Man 2 and Alan Wake 2 had way more actual bugs. But Remedy is doing an amazing job fixing them at least.
@Skeletor85 Maybe because this was a cheap rush job and the games are actually internally running in 720p in 2023? And I would hope there aren't any bugs seen as some of the games were ports made by the great Bluepoint Games! (Wonder what they are up to though 👀)
A friend of mine played this apperantly it's toned down🤦 I mean seriously I remember the start of a call of duty game I think it was, asked are you ok with bla bla bla. Let the individual choose? I'd just choose the uncensored version, give the individual the choice. Geez if they do that il get my 80s style action and 90s attitude back in my media I miss wwe/WWF attitude era 😂
@Mad001 Nothings been toned down or censored.
@DennisReynolds you sure a lot was cut I was told. Geez if this is true il have it bought today il check it out thanks buddy 😁👍
Most of these problems are not even ps4/5 related. If you're playing this game on ps4/5 I don't see many reasons to complain
Wonder if you get the missed trophy added when they fix that or you have to do it again?
I don't see any updates on the PS5 version on that list, does that mean that's the best version to get.
@Mad001 The only thing removed i think was some war footage what was a licencing issue.
I have the HD collection on PS3. I was replaying MGS 2 last week. The conclusion I came to is - no way is this collection worth €60. It's worth €20.
I only played MGS1 so far from the collection but from my experience it seemed perfectly fine. I'm happy with it.
@Terra_Custodes Nah, probably somewhere in between. For someone who wants to find out what the MGS deal is about, it’s a nice and easy way to do it. I don’t see another (easy) way to play the first game. It’ll probably be discounted as well rather sooner than later.
@Terra_Custodes I see your point. For me an emulator seems like too much work to find out if I like the games at all. 4K would have been nice, but this is better than nothing (what I had until last month). So 6/10.
@Terra_Custodes If you play at 4K using an emulator, you lose all of the post-processing effects like depth of field. If you mod the PC version of the collection to run at a higher resolution, you get the same result.
@DennisReynolds yea I heard about that to , licensing issues lol the TV show supernatural had blue Oyster cults don't fear the reaper. Then licensing issue Amazon put in a pop song rather jarring. These should be locked it and can kbe used years after with the same game and no change. Il see what the modders are doing with this on the pc side, thanks bud
@Mad001 Glad i own the DVD's to Supernatural then as Don't Fear The Reaper is my favourite song and that episode is one of my favs because of that.
@Terra_Custodes I am talking about MGS2 and MGS3. MGS1 is a completely different case as it is emulated rather than running natively. It looks good on Duckstation because it uses fan-made technology that eliminates PS1 wobbling. That is a good technology but it changes the look and the aesthetic of the game. Would be a "nice to have" feature, I agree.
Also MGS1 does have depth of field and motion blur effects. They even happen to be broken in the PC port sold on GOG.
@Mad001 Yeah, over half of Daria's entire audiobed was peppered with unlicensed music (as it aired on MTV originally), so the DVDs were sadly almost completely stripped of them and replaced with generic background music. A real shame, as the music felt like a real, organic element of that show.
@Andee all part of this digital content they want us on , oh you bought the show well we had to remove it due to licensing. Amazon deleted films from customers librarys before there's a lot to be said about a your own physical library, cex I love cheap dvds get all you want from there lol
@Mad001 absolutely — if I'm visiting a town or city I will always check out the local CEX to see what untapped treasures they're hoarding
@Andee Learn handbrake ( Linux open source program) to rip your dvds and you can watch your own dvd library digitally.
@Mad001 Yeah I did - I had a whole plan to get my 300+ films and TV shows (many with multiple discs) onto a hard drive before I moved house, but the image quality and the sheer time it took to rip each disc had me throwing in the towel after the fifth or sixth disc...
@Andee you can convert them them to h265 offers up to 50% compression, always hard drive space is a killer 😂
@Mad001 Yeah, HDD space was never really an issue — I just couldn't be bothered to go through hundreds of discs at 40-60 mins per rip — I'd need some sort of automated jukebox rig to physically change the discs over while I was asleep or something...
@Andee lol multiple disc changer big money lol. If you choose go down that route look at the old 90s tech multi cd changers people had in their cars all you need is swap out the cd reader for a dvd loader type deal. Look at element 13 if you are technically minded Arduino would be a good for the jukebox. Good luck have a nice weekend buddy
@Mad001 Oh cripes no I would never go to those actual lengths — especially when the result would be a 480i image on a 60+ inch TV screen - I'd be far more resigned to just renting the movie/show on Amazon in 4K or something
