Having launched its most recent title, Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew, developer Mimimi Games announced shortly after that the studio would close, citing rising genre costs. This is doubly tragic as Mimimi has made great, admittedly niche games that simply failed to find a wide enough audience, like Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun and Desperados III. Going out in style, Mimimi is releasing two final DLC expansions for the excellent Shadow Gambit, available imminently on PS5 from 6th December.
Mimimi has outlined what the offerings will entail, comprising "several hours" each of what it describes as "mighty downloadable content expansions". Both will integrate seamlessly with the main campaign, and the new characters can be used in almost any mission from the base game. Players can expect the following from each offering:
- New Character – Prepare to welcome a new playable character, armed with unique supernatural abilities and ready to join the ranks of the cursed crew.
- Uncharted Island – Discover a mystical, uncharted island in the Lost Caribbean, waiting to be explored.
- Story Campaign – Embark on an epic story campaign across six new missions.
If you were on the fence about Shadow Gambit, this might be a good opportunity to try out something a little bit different. An extremely competent fusion of stealth and strategy, with great writing and a sense of style, we'll be looking forward to the studio's swansong. It really sucks that AA games like this in genres that aren't super popular are at a point where they just aren't financially viable
Both DLC packs are a day 1 purchase for me. The mimimi stealth/strategy trilogy are some of the best, most replayable games to come out in a long time. Sad to see the studio go under. There's always hope that the new Commandos game will be good, but... not holding my breath.
Definitely picking up the DLC. This is really sad news, I own Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun, Desperados III & Shadow Gambit. Really good games.
