Final Fantasy Tactics remains, essentially, the benchmark for the tactical genre it popularised back in 1997 when it was first released on PS1. We did get War of the Lions on PSP back in 2007, but even that is well long in the tooth at this point. Players have been wishing, sometimes begging, for a properly modern remaster for years at this point, all of it in vain.
In a brief, punishing tweet, Final Fantasy series creator Yasumi Matsuno dashed hopes of a remaster while simultaneously directing an unsuspecting fan request to Square Enix customer support and not him; thank you very much: "Currently, there are no plans for remastering. Also, you have to convey your request to SQEX, not me. Thank you for your understanding."
It's especially interesting, as a Final Fantasy Tactics remaster was mentioned in the infamous NVIDIA leak, which has largely been proven correct with the passing of time. Not to be discouraged, we can't help but note that Matsuno doesn't say anything about remakes, and we'll be grimly hanging onto that potential possibility until it either happens or we expire, whichever comes first.
What do you think of Matsuno's casual crushing of this long-hoped-for dream? Find ways to cope in the comments section below.

He said "Currently" I really don't see how this is "Crushing"
Hell, even if he WAS working on it, do you really thing devs would outright TELL people?
If a niche game like tactics ogre got one. This eventually will. All he says is currently. Square probably has loads of people working on their main ff projects right now. Not to mention DQ.
I know there are a lot of ff fans and I will get hate for saying this but tactics is a very boring trpg. It was hyped back in the day when FF was a very popular series but there are way better and interesting games than this.
It needs a remake, not a remaster. Remaster can't fix boring gameplay. And I doubt that another boring FF game is what the series needs right now
Lol There's a response from him in the replies too! 🤣
"I'm very sorry.
That's all can say as my position right now.
I'll leave it to you whether you believe it or not.
Thank you."
Separate post:
"Yes. mum. I agree with you.
Even if you have information, you can't say anything unless there is an official announcement.
You think so too, don't you?"
🤔 Not sure, but he might be lying.
"Final Fantasy series creator Yasumi Matsuno", uh, what?
Stick the og version on Premium then. It's the kind of game where a rewind function would work as you re do your turn over and over.
@Yuyukirby Naoki Yoshida straight up lied for nearly 4 years about making ff16
@Yuyukirby Yeah, and he said that it's Square's decision to make the call. People forget that in capitalism creators usually don't own what they create and don't really get to decide.
also plans change, even for officially announced games.
We don't need a remake or remaster. It's already perfect. Art style is amazing, story is great, combat and job system is endlessly replayable.
Give us FFT2, a prequel, or something new like Trangle Strategy but in another FF world thousands of years pre/post.
@Bdbrady Agreed, though i wouldn't mind both.
