In what was likely one of the show's biggest surprises, publisher SEGA revealed at The Game Awards that it would be rebooting five classic series for modern audiences: Crazy Taxi, Golden Axe, Jet Set Radio, Shinobi, and Streets of Rage.
As reported by VGC, a slide presented during a SEGA management meeting last week provided some brief additional details on each project, giving us something to think about in the long months and years ahead. We know that the original creator of Jet Set Radio is returning for the reboot and that this title, at least, is a couple of years into development.
- Crazy Taxi: Innovative & Fresh Style Driving Action!
Cheerful feeling of freedom x Fusion of nature and city, Peel out the new stage of Crazy City! - Jet Set Radio: “Counter-Culture”. Tokyo Street Open World
Experience the “rebellion” movement that feels free in a suffocating society. Make friends, increase your fans, and create a movement! - Shinobi: Slay the enemies in the silence of the moment
Run through the world of Shinobi, full of monsters and ninja actions. Grab Oberozuki, the legendary sword and slay Evil once more. Your clan and the world are counting on you. - Golden Axe: Warriors arise to subdue the demons!
Defeat your enemies with a variety of attacks with swords and magic! The legendary story about the battle axe, “Golden Axe”, is about to begin! - Streets of Rage Revolution: Beloved side-scrolling beat ’em up action series!
Take control of one of the ex-officers and make the city a place where people no longer have to walk the “Streets of Rage.

Very interested.
I think jet set, crazy taxi and shinobi are looking good.
But i have worries about golden axe and streets if rage which are IP's i enjoy more. The jump to 3D is worrisome.
I think Jet Set Radio would be well suited to an open world game. I also hope Sega manage to get The Offspring back for Crazy Taxi. The PS3 port just wasn’t the same without them.
It’s a pity that Sega hadn’t giving the chance to make another Streets of Rage to the guys behind the recent 4th game. I think they did an absolutely brilliant job of the game and it really did feel like a perfect continuation of the series.
Kind of weird calling it a PS5 reboot (and PS5 revival in other article) before they've even announced the platforms. Sure, it seems likely, but not certain yet.
This makes me very happy.
@KoopaTheGamer it’s coming out on ps5.
That's pretty cool to hear Jet Set Radio is open world. It feels right.
I loved all of these games as a kid, so this is right up my street.
Crazy Taxi, Shinobi and Jet Set Radio are the 3 that grabbed me right away from what they have shown. Can see me 100% picking these up.
Golden Axe and Streets of Rage not so much, hopefully they turn out well though.
Open world could be interesting for JSR as the areas from the previous games were pretty big
I have faith in this and Crazy Taxi the most, kinda worried about Golden Axe: it’s one of the titles that made me a gamer and I hope they do it justice (also please Sega publish Golden Axe: the Revenge of Death Adder on new consoles!)
The fact they describe Streets of Rage Revolution as side scrolling bodes well.
@Jay767 I haven't read a single article that has confirmed this. Some news articles mention PS5 in title, but don't include any kind of official quote or references/sources. In the age of paid exclusives, I don't think it's responsible for news sites to share information without proper research.
Edit: Not to mention, calling it a PS5 reboot or PS5 revival makes it sound like a PS5 exclusive, which is kind of misleading.
Jet Set Radio Future was already (kind of) open world so this sounds fine
I just wish SEGA would package up all their arcade emulators from Yakuza etc and pop them into a lovely package like the Atari50 collection or even the Megadrive classic collection.
There are so many there already done, they just need to make a nice interface and include a nice bit of history for each title and I'm sure it'd fly off the digital shelves.
Let's have a new Outrun, Daytona, Super Hang on, Galaxy force. Sega rally.
@Axelay71
Amen to that.
Last Outrun was Coast to Coast in 2006?
Played that to death on PS2, then again on PS3.
A reboot would be awesome. Same goes for their other racers. No one does racers like Sega, it's in their arcade origins blood.
@GeeForce totally agree Sega are the arcade king of racers. Still play the classics now, the original Outrun & Super Hang on, are my favourites
@Bionic-Spencer Yeah I'm not sure why Sega have them making the new Shinobi game instead. I'm still looking forward to both of them though so hopefully they turn out to be good.
The new Shinobi art style kind of kills the nostalgia factor for me. Not crazy about it. The others look fine.
Honestly, for me it would be much better to just bring to PS5 a selection of arcade perfect versions of original AM2 games, such as Out Run, Daytona, Sega Rally, G-Loc and After Burner. With decent wheel/HOTAS support, of course.
For this kind of game I think open world would be good 👍
@Axelay71
You ever play Outrun on the Nintendo 3DS?
The use of 3D effect is fantastic. Favourite version of the game.
@GeeForce yes mate love the 3DS version. Wish Nintendo would make another 3D system.
Makes sense. The first 2 games probably werent open world cuz of hardware limits. I'm just hoping there will be the same amount of areas as future if not more
