CD Projekt Red has provided a quick update on the commercial success of Phantom Liberty — the big Cyberpunk 2077 expansion that released back in September of last year. The DLC launched alongside the game's 2.0 Update, which once again propelled the open world RPG back into the spotlight.
Anyway, Phantom Liberty managed to sell over 5 million copies in 2023 — which is really good going for an expansion. Last we heard, Cyberpunk 2077 itself had sold more than 25 million copies.
It took a few years for the Polish developer to make things right, but it's now fair to say that Cyberpunk 2077 is a success. Of course, all eyes will be on CDPR's next project — the new Witcher title — but the hope will be that the company has learned some valuable lessons from this whole 2077 saga.

Fantastic expansion so well deserved.
That seems like a high number for DLC. Nicely done.
Is that a high number for this type of dlc based on the 25 million who had the base game as of Oct? I mean they had sold 18 million 4 months in to the fraud they pulled initially. I guess for dlc it's probably a good figure though.
Phantom Liberty was my favourite gaming experience of 2023. 5 million sales is well deserved if you ask me. Here's looking forward to the Witcher 4
It took them 3 years to finally get it right but what a game it now is. Fantastic writing (even before you hit Dogtown,) top notch gunplay and a bad*ss soundtrack all come together to create an absolute must play of a title. And that's without mention of the character and amazing overall aesthetic of Night City Area and its inhabitants. Well done CDPR! 👍🏾
It's an amazing game that should never have been developed for PS4/Xbox One.
Phantom Liberty was absolutely amazing. I'm glad I held off and didn't suffer the shoddy release and I'm really glad CPR didn't give up and throw in the towel, stuck with it and refined their game.
Cyberpunk has very quickly become one of my favourite series. I've got the platinum trophy, which is something I rarely feel driven enough to do.
Glad to see it's really successful so far. I'm late to the party even though I had Phantom Liberty pre-ordered because I wanted to replay the whole game again before playing it, but I started the expansion last weekend and I'm loving it so far.
Since I skipped it on start (because I never preorder), I find it too hard to get myself to buy the game. I know it has looks and vibe of a city-based open world, but lacks depth of a GTA instalment. I know it has a good story, but many games do. I'm fine with cyberpunk aesthetics, but it's not something I'm a fan of.
Is there really something else to it?
The Tower ending got me crying 😢
@viktorcode
The city is interesting to explore, the combat is great, the story is good, your choices matter, all the side missions are mostly good and have as much depth as the main missions; I mean what else could you possibly want dude.
@MattBoothDev Yup, now that they got the gist of the gameplay, Im more excited for how the sequel will turn out! Although it won't be with CDPR engine which I'm honestly glad about because both Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk have this odd floaty feeling to them(And hoping it gets fixed with the UE5).
I'm the odd one here. I really tried to get on with Cyberpunk (basegame), but I'm just not feeling it for whatever reason 🙃
@Swirly keep playing, it’ll get good
Cyberpunk and Phantom Liberty as a package gets my HIGHEST level of praise.
I can't see a reality where you'd be disappointed with your decision to play/buy this game.
Get yourselves a copy👍
Especially if you are struggling with the gacha-addiction @sammybarker , save yourself and try a real game without any PLEASE WHALE-mechanics.
I started Cyberpunk just before Christmas and 99 hours in, I've almost completed the main and DLC and it is a masterpiece.
It's like Fallout and GTA had a prettier and more spectacular baby. One of my favourite games of all time.
@viktorcode
I'm also a fan of GTA series and Cyberpunk 2077 is much more deeper game than GTA V, a league above imo
Now waiting for GTA VI, then Cyberpunk Orion
@viktorcode
There is obviously more to Cyberpunk than story and aesthetics, it's the gameplay - i haven't had so much fun with any game since childhood!
