Sony is making an electronic vehicle named AFEELA in collaboration with Honda, and the companies once again used CES 2024 as an opportunity to provide an update on its progress. Among lots and lots of babble about mobility – and a brief wishy-washy segment about AI – the firm enjoyed a rapturous response as it drove the car on stage using a DualSense controller.
While the manufacturer was mainly showing off, it actually steered the vehicle on stage using the PS5’s default pad. We’re curious whether it programmed the adaptive triggers and haptic feedback for added effect – although we’re hopeful the controller doesn’t suffer from stick drift, otherwise that could result in a nasty accident for the expensive prototype car!

Hopefully they don't encounter stick drift haha
The first reply to they’re tweet “ The last thing that was operated by controller, didn’t end so well😬“
Ignoring the ability to steer it with the controller.. How am I meant to drive it one handed with only half a steering wheel?!
Jokes. I could never afford one anyway
@TrannosaurusBex was only for the showcase anyway. It's not going into production, just a 'hypothetical ' possibility.
Please don't use a controller for controlling a real world motor vehicle.
That's exciting...
I’ve always been better at racing games with a controller, despite owning a wheel. I still use it, just to increase immersion with driving games. If controlling a car with a DualSense becomes a reality, I’d be able to use a controller for racing games and still feel like I’m steering like in real life.
I feel vindicated 🤣
Wait so you guys were serious about the car thing when joking before the show happened?!
Did they do this nonsense last year?
This looks cool in theory, but we know people will misuse the controller and potentially cause accidents… or worse. Perhaps the vehicle will implement many limitations to prevent crashes. Also, the last time a controller was used to steer an important motorized machine, it didn’t end well.
@KundaliniRising333 The Honda-Sony partnership to make an EV was well known for years. The car was finally unveiled yesterday
What's an "electronic vehicle"?
Reminds me of 007 in Die Another Day, so cool...
