There aren't many sleeps left until the release of The Last of Us Part II Remastered, which arrives on PS5 next week, on 19th January. If the prospect of reliving the harrowing adventure all over again wasn't enough, or the inclusion of the intriguing No Return roguelike mode, then how about jamming out in Guitar Free Play mode as legendary composer Gustavo Santaolalla himself?
Developer Naughty Dog dropped a brief snippet of the moody musician playing the banjo, just one of several acoustic instruments available in Guitar Free Play Mode. The mode will allow players to jam out as various characters; Santaolalla is already featured as a minor character in the base game, fittingly named Gustavo.
Interestingly, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (out 29th February) will also feature a musical component. Between what will likely be two of the biggest PS5 games of the year, that's a pretty rocking start to 2024, if you ask us.
Are you excited to start strumming up a storm as Santaolalla? Will you be picking up The Last of Us Part II Remastered? Let us know in the comments section below.

This is the easiest $10 upgrade out there for me! No desire for a full campaign replay just yet but there is so much else here sure to keep me busy
I’ll 100% be doing this! Such an excellent composer 😺🎵
Can't wait to play the banjo as Shimmer.
Is this a remaster (appears to be the word generally used for this one) or a remake? i.e. is it plugging in some higher-res textures and allowing the PS5 to run at full pelt or is it a from the ground up rebuild ala RE2/3/4 remakes?
I suspect the former.
Doesnt take away from the essence of the game and if you liked it first time round it wont lose that appeal I am sure; but for consumer awareness I think it would be good to know. There's a massive difference tween a remaster and a remake and I'd just like to be clear
@lindos it’s a remaster. That’s why it’s called ‘The Last of Us: Part II Remastered’ 😉
This remaster is nothing but a cash grab. Makes no sense to buy it unless you haven't played 2 yet
Adding pointless filler like this ain't going to make it worth the money
@Brucewayne2049 I would agree with you if there wasn’t an upgrade path. If you want this, you can get it for €10,-. If not, just let it be…
