Helldivers 2's meteoric success has been something of a double-edged sword for developer Arrowhead Game Studio. On the one hand, the studio has an instant classic; on the other, the price of that popularity means Helldivers 2 still suffers from constant connection issues. Fans who have been remarkably patient with the consistent server strain plaguing the game since launch have begun to turn on one another, resorting to selfish, individualistic methods when they should be banding together for the greater glory of Super Earth.
Spotted by IGN, over on the Helldivers subreddit, frustrated players are calling for Arrowhead to implement some form of AFK (away-from-keyboard) auto-kick feature after many players began admitting to staying logged in in order to keep playing and avoid the dreaded game of chance that is connecting to the game's servers. It's a problem in desperate need of a solution.
Arrowhead commander-in-chief Johan Pilestedt was made aware of the issue, and confirmed that the devs are looking into the situation. "Agreed, I have already mentioned this to the team," Pilestedt said. In other Helldivers news, envious Xbox players are petitioning Arrowhead to bring the game to the platform, following comments regarding the game's exclusivity made by Xbox boss Phil Spencer.

Well that certainly explains some of its packed servers
If you use the activity card instead of clicking games icon to boot the game and select quick match card, you somehow get in straight to your ship, if your getting server at capacity message. Don't ask me how but it's worked for me and my friends tonight that were all having that message.
@Ssimsim Yeah but it does make it a bit bugged to matchmake with randoms.
@Nepp67 yeah unsure on that as played with friends and that was fine, it got us in at least don't know how because if servers are full, servers are full.
I see cross play as a dual edged sword. On one hand it brings the gaming community together but on the other hand it produces problems such as this. Would helldivers 2 been the unmitigated success it has been in a very short space of time if there was no cross play? More than likely to be honest as it really is one of the best online games I've played in such a long time when you can find a space on the servers but I can't help but feel that if the PlayStation had its own servers we'd all be spreading democracy right now..before I set off to work 🤣
I kept getting booted mid match. Hopefully they can get this fixed sooner rather than later. Don't want to miss out on all the hype.
Its getting boring watxhing the "servers at capacity" message pop up every night now. Ive paid for a product i cant use.
While I’m sure some players are doing this to selfishly be able to jump right back in, that’s not always the case. I had 40 minutes to kill yesterday so I jumped on for a match and I was still in the game from yesterday because I didn’t logout, I’ll be honest, I don’t play online much so I’m not used to it. I made sure to logout yesterday to make sure others could jump in, I’d bet a lot of people have accidentally done the same thing.
I only had issues on Sunday afternoon and I did eventually still get in, no issues at all otherwise but presume I am just lucky on this occasion!
I must be getting lucky. I had the "servers full" message last night twice (had an app-crash shortly after getting into a mission the first time) but on both occasions I had under a 10 minute wait. It's annoying when you've got limited gaming time in the evenings, sure, but the game is worth the short wait IMO.
Deliberately staying logged in to 'save your spot on the server' is ***** though. There should be an AFK kick after 10-15 minutes or so, at least until the server situation is resolved.
Been lucky til last night. I think my buddy and I extracted from 2 of the 5 missions we played successfully. One of both of us were kicked back to the ship on the other 3
I love this game, but the servers and matchmaking continue to be pretty bad. Waited like 10 minutes to get in and then couldn't matchmake with anyone, making higher difficulties basically unplayable.
Not only should they implement an AFK autokick, but they should also just have a server queue. At least then, you'd know how long you're actually going to wait to get into the game.
Day 2 finally got on tonight and managed to get into 4 games with a friend and 2 of his mates I don't have a mic yet. But it bugged out and skipped the tutorial mission as I was in the middle of it and a patch came out so I updated it. But when it came back on I was in my ship ready to start my first mission. It's an awesome game very challenging even for medium difficulty when your weapons are not very good.
Definitely needs an auto kick feature though
