A new Korean age rating for an updated version of Nintendo Switch exclusive Shin Megami Tensei V was posted online overnight before being quickly pulled, suggesting Atlus plans to re-release the JRPG in the future. Named Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance, the listing mentioned "improvements and additional content" and could be the multi-platform port that was datamined out of the original release a few years ago.
Over two years ago in November 2021, a datamine into the backend of SMT V found mentions of a PS4 version, but no confirmation of such an edition being in the works has been shared by Atlus. The old GeForce Now leak also mentioned a PC version was on the way a couple of years ago, but it too hasn't made it to release either yet. As Atlus likes to bring its titles to new platforms with updated versions, it's possible this Vengeance edition could signal the arrival of the RPG on PS5, PS4.
What's more a Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase is rumoured to take place later this week. The enhanced version may be announced as part of the Switch's digital showcase and then confirmed for new consoles after the fact.
First released for Nintendo Switch in November 2021, our sister site Nintendo Life awarded a 9/10 rating at launch and shared praise for its combat and compelling content. Criticisms were aimed at a poor frame rate and generally subpar performance, which you'd think would be fixed in a current-gen port. "Shin Megami Tensei V is a modern masterpiece," the site said. "It successfully delivers on all the aspects that have made the series thus far so popular with fans—namely through its high difficulty, heavy narrative themes, and expansive team-building options—while polishing up and tightening the weaker aspects."

When will all the "re" stuff stop?
@ZhuckelDror
Why is it bad that PS5 owners get to play this game?
I hope so, it was great on Switch but the visuals suffered. Give it to me in 4k/60 and I'll happily double-dip.
It has to be right? I'm on copium
I wonder what kind of improvements could be made on this game outside a bump in resolution and FPS.
Not expecting some P3 ReLoad levels of care, but it would be nice to get 4K@60 and some RT too.
I'm down for this 🤞
Finally, I’ve been waiting for this
@ShadowofTwilight31
Because it takes away resources from making new games?
I mean if Switch got Persona it's only fair PS gets this
Man, this game was quite disappointing with weird difficulty spikes, ugly to look at, framerates that made me nauseous and a story that was kinda just there despite having a really good hook. Music and gameplay was great though.
@ZhuckelDror This will be a new game for the 100m+ people that didn't have access to it before. It also only sold like 1.3m copies on the Switch, and sales fell off a cliff after week 1, so there's a massive audience for this.
@breakneck Yeah I did not hear great things from this game which is a shame
Korean rating leaks pretty much always lead to an actual release, so this is pretty good news. I've always been interested in this game but would much rather experience it in better hardware than my Switch.
@Nepp67 it does a lot of things right in its open world areas but the dungeons were not fun at all. Definitely felt like it could've been a lot more. Hopefully this new version realises it's potential.
Played through it on Switch (got all endings) and really enjoyed it but the framerate and resolution certainly was something else
Would love to replay that game on more powerful hardware
An absolutely incredible game (see my avatar ). Would definitely double dip!
@ZhuckelDror
Atlus literally farting out Persona spin offs on an almost yearly basis is far more of an issue than this I'd say.
Fantastic, ambitious game, but with a lot of room for improvement, so I'm particularly enthused to see what Atlus is changing.
@ZhuckelDror Well, it's a new game for me personally since I only play on PS5. Don't understand what your problem is tbh. It's nice everyone will get the chance to play the game with better peformance.
Hopefully this release won’t be one where they pretend that it’s only coming to Xbox.
Wow I just recently finished it recently since it was a steal for $20. I don't know that I'm that interested in replaying so soon despite really loving it unless they make significant updates to the story. And that's assuming it even is a port cause now I know first hand how awful it actually runs on the switch
Out of the 3 smt games I've played it has the most potential for a great story but it's still so poorly executed
I knew not paying for the Switch version would eventually pay off
Couldn't continue on the switch, the resolution and 30fps forced me to stop, really hope to get this on the PS5
Loved SMT5 so would 100% buy again for the upgrades. Wish they'd remaster 4 though.
Well, since so many PS5 games are being released on PC, and now Xbox games are being released on PS5 too, might as well release some of those Switch games on Playstation platforms, right?
Didn't like the main character. He looks so stupid. Worlds were also quite empty if I remember correctly. Would probably buy it again on PS5 though xD
Really loved SMT5, and I'm the kind of person preferring it compared to the Persona spin-off series, which honestly are a chore to progress on after the fancy artistic coating starts to get old. That said, performance was really poor, it's clearly a game that should not have been released on Switch.
I need that updated graphics and 60fps gameplay
I own this on Switch put it down because of the difficulty. Overall I prefer Persona
I was just looking for a PS4/5 version the other day as I thought it had maybe released by now. I can’t believe this game is still tied to Switch, mostly. It’s so good and I highly recommend it if you know even a little about SMT.
Will be buying if this comes to fruition!
Please make it happen atlus. I would definitely double dip. The game is great, but it was definitely too much for the switch. The performance was pretty bad and it made me drop the game eventually.
Finally 🤩
I’ve started SMTV on hard difficulty only a couple weeks ago.
Totally expected to like it, but it still blew me away. It’s my favourite Switch game, despite the technical issues. I’ll put it on hold now and wait for the PC port.
As an introvert, the endlessly prating high-school kiddies of Persona are boring AF to me, so it’s mainline SMT exploration and combat gameplay all the way here 👍🏻
Please bring this amazing game to PS5! I enjoyed playing it on my Switch OLED, but the visuals and performance suffered a bit. I'd love to play this again with 4K 60fps in HDR with trophy support on PS5!
@McBurn How dare you. Nahobino looks cool AF.
@Cloud39472 Just my opinion. I'm sure you're not alone with yours^^
I do wish we had a MC with an actual personality though...I'm getting a liiittle tired of the whole "silent protagonist" kind of thing with all the SMT games. Maybe Metaphor ReFantazio will have a MC with an actual personality. One can hope..
@Tsushima For sure SMTs are more like Souls game. You must understand and master the combat mechanics, grind a little, and get good at making strategic correct decisions, otherwise it's brutally a game over. Persona are more like fancy JRPG with stories based on character development, but where the combat is not developed and just there to bring some action between a tunnel of dialogue. In Persona 5 it's only at the very end that battles start to look like a SMT one.
@McBurn Oh man do I agree with that so much. Especially when considering that most Persona protagonists clearly have an already defined personality underneath the silent treatment. P3, P4 and P5's MC's are very clearly not "me" so might as well go all the way and just voice them.
Even Digital Devil Sagas main character wasn't voiced, I just don't get it.
Yep, I waiting it for PS5. It works bad on my Switch.
@ZhuckelDror If anything deserves a ‘re’ it’s this one. I loved it on switch but the frame rate gave me a headache.
This game has plenty of room to become a better version of himself and was actually really suffering from severe hardware restrictions.
I still enjoyed it but would welcome an expanded PS5 port
I'll grab it if it comes to ps5
