The beleaguered, battle-worn servers utilised by developer Arrowhead Game Studios have stood firm against their most ferocious onslaught yet, some 800,000 rabid Helldivers 2 players, all clamouring to get their Democratic fix at once. This glorious victory for Super Earth, in which "the servers handled all Helldivers 2 players this weekend without a problem", signals a major shift in the ongoing, intergalactic war effort.
CEO Johan Pilestedt announced the stunning reversal of fortunes yesterday, on Sunday, 25th February, a day of celebration which will live long in our collective memories. Pilestedt announced that Arrowhead was imminently expecting servers to hit capacity, newly raised to a limit of 800,000 concurrent users (CCU) for the occasion (as well as adding AFK auto-kick), warning "there might be light queues to get in at peak", and reflecting on the insanity of the situation.
Just 12 hours later, the Arrowhead CEO declared a sudden and total victory, proclaiming that the game's freshly reinforced servers had held for the first time. Now, at last, Pilestedt mused, there would be time to "focus on improvements and resume our original plan".
Since launch, the Helldivers 2 servers have been getting absolutely hammered, mainly due to the decision to launch day and date on PC and PS5. While PlayStation's figures are more challenging to ascertain, on Steam, during the game's opening weekend, some 120,000 took up arms for Super Earth simultaneously, which shows how far the game has come in just a few short weeks. Here's hoping Pilestedt's proclamation isn't premature, but for now, it looks like we can all gladly do our part to spread Managed Democracy across the galaxy, to even its most distant stars.
