We can’t, in good faith, complain about the time it takes to make PS5 and PS4 games – and then turn around and criticise REYNATIS for looking a little sloppy. Studios are spending reckless amounts of money making AAA titles these days, so perhaps it’s time we lowered our expectations and accepted some slightly scruffier releases instead.
All this is a pleasant pre-amble leading up to the point that FuRyu’s latest wouldn’t look entirely out of place as a late-gen launch on the PS3, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be fun. The game – led by an all-star crew of Square Enix alumni – is about a power struggle between magicians in real-life Shibuya, where some want to showcase their powers and others want to conceal them.
The setting does look really incredible; we’ve been to Shibuya and this truly captures the feel of the iconic location. The combat doesn’t look bad either, although performance is concerning considering the title’s Japanese release is locked for 25th July. There’s still no word on a Western launch, but we’re fairly confident it’ll get picked up by a publisher at some point this year.

That trailer was all kinds of janky lol
On one hand, this looks like furyus best game yet, it has yoko shimomura, and the art style is pretty nice. But on the other, its furyu. They kinda remind me of kemco and tokyo rpg factory where they just churn out average to decent games
2006 called for their game.
Sounds like another game inspired by FF versus XIII trailers. Right down to the trailer music. I'll wait for reviews. As I have nothing against Versus XIII, just agianst what it eventually became, but the anime asthetic and camera shots aren't giving me much hope.
@Fishface45 This looks nothing like God of War 2. That game is absolutely amazing!
Kind of gave me Sonic Frontiers vibes, and I don't consider that to be a good thing.
Oh, no release date for us? I would have given it a go, if it were to come to PC. But I have a switch, I can get it on also.
Same folks that ask for smaller style, (Japanese) AA, 360/PS3 gen type games: ''This looks outdated''.
Lol.
It' seems pretty ridiculous to me that a preamble was thought to be required. I honestly can't believe that someone's first reaction would be, "Wah, the graphics suck!" before even knowing anything about the game. Like, does it even look all that bad? Have I been playing on Switch for too long? If that's the immediate reaction, then no wonder the high-end gaming market is in the state that it's in. Game looks fun, or at least interesting. I couldn't give a crap about muh gafiks!!!!
It looks good and bad at the same time. Good in a creative kind of way and bad in an AI stiffness kind of way.
@CrackmanNL Totally agree with you if the game is a little cheaper and a little bit out there and it's fun what's the problem.
If the gameplay is good then I’m all in. Something kinda cosy about these looking games sometimes.
Furyru games should always be gone into with mid expectations. Crymachina was conceptually great and mid in delivery.
Crystar was conceptually great and mid in in delivery.
There's a pattern here...
(I still buy them)
I guess game devs are producing ps3 games again
Well, it's the insides that count, right? I'll take these kinds of games any day over some safe big budget games. I'm always pleasantly surprised by the new mechanics/ideas/innovations and risks smaller games tend to make^^
Woo FF13 versus!
Doesn't look that bad to me, I mean if this was released on the switch people wouldn't complain about the graphics.
I would definitely try this, looks really interesting. There is a place for graphical excellence, but it's doesn't always need to be the focus.
@CrackmanNL I'm excited for this and will be picking it up but it does look like it needs more time in the oven. I'm just hoping the final build will be more polished
@RainbowGazelle I'm pretty hype for this but its looking a little PS3ish ngl. This is one of those few times where the backlash is understandable. Not only the graphics but framerate and animations arent looking too hot either. I sure hope they were using an early build for these trailers and that the final game will look much better
this game looks amazing!!! i do hope it has an English Voice Over
Put to the side graphics the game looks terrible, looks like teenage fanfic made it a game, terrible story, terrible design choices, terrible subtext. Its not about be AA, just how its looks bad overall
