Helldivers 2 players have served heroically in the ongoing intergalactic war effort, turning out in their millions to patriotically defend Super Earth from the external threats of both Bug and Bot. But reports have begun to trickle in about a new enemy faction moving in the shadows, or perhaps more appropriately, the return of an old nemesis, one known as The Illuminate. Some even suspect they already walk among us, which is obviously defeatist nonsense.
The Illuminate were an enemy faction in the first Helldivers, an ancient and technologically advanced race of aliens hellbent on destroying Super Earth. We all know they were wiped out long ago. Like those pernicous, completely false reports of flying bugs (thanks, IGN), they simply do not exist.
Still, some patriots, perhaps suffering from battle fatigue, are reporting coming under fire from a "vibrant blue laser", which some think matches the energy signature of sniper weaponry employed by The Illuminate previously. It's pretty distinct from the red energy weapons used by both Helldivers and Bots, but visual evidence remains inconclusive.
You should probably also ignore the in-game messages about Illuminate sightings. Super Earth High Command's official line is that "blue beams aren't real, it can't hurt you", and the account Helldivers Alerts (our conspiracy theory is that the devs run it) provided a leaked look at our ancient enemy.
Have you noticed any unaccounted flashes of blue light while on deployment in Helldivers 2? Do you think The Illimunate already walk among us, sabotaging ballot boxes and rigging elections? In the comments section below, remain unwavering in your support of Super Earth.

Really hope they add the chimera in the future.
Remember Helldiver, scepticism is treason!
Donald Trump is an illuminate agent working to over throw earth's governments. Need proof? Look how orange he used to appear and recently he looks a bit pallid almost translucent in certain pictures. He's been replaced by a pod person I tell you. They are already amongst us.
Honestly, fun stuff like this makes me sorta wish I had jumped onboard. Live services just aren't for me, but when they're done well like this, they can truly add to the experience in ways that a singleplayer game cannot.
@Golem25 It's not too late to jump into the game at all. You'll probably even find a veteran helldiver willing to show you the ropes - there's a few of us who like to respond to SOS beacons on difficulty 1 missions and help new players get to grips with the game. Before you know it, you'll be squashing bugs and blasting bots with the best of them.
@StrickenBiged It does sound like everyone's having a great time. I've still too much to do via PS Plus but I'm sure one day I might fire it up on an alt account. I'm just pleased for the devs and the playerbase that it's been going so well.
"Report further sightings to your nearest Democracy Officer"
An excellent strategy for weeding out additional dissident minds. Well played 😌
This guerilla marketing that they are engaged in is genius.
Please stop I can't take anymore articles about helldivers 2, geshin impact and the others it's over kill.
So I get they are enjoyed by many but for me I'm going to have to stop comimg to this site as for me there's not enough variety in article.
Not that anyone cares but hey that's the way it is 👋
@Bagwag82 You will be missed.
@Bagwag82 I think the easiest solution to this is to just look away. If I see an article on here not for me, I do not click on it, but rather find those that I find worth reading. Hence, I read HellDivers 2 to support the PushSquare team (and because it interests me), but completely skip a review for something like Alone in the Dark (because it does not interest me). Don't forget, they've a business to run, and have to decide on what receives clicks and what does not. Enough of the community here plays these two games to make it worth writing about.
Hehe. Among Us.
@Northern_munkey Pod person is def a possibility. But it could also be due to stuff like this: https://www.the-independent.com/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-oval-office-address-video-doctored-footage-editor-sacked-fox-q13-seattle-orange-tongue-a8722491.html
I love this stuff. I especially appreciate how the Push Square writer played along. I'm all for this Starship Troopers-esque dialog around the game. I wish more marketing campaigns were like this. Helldivers is one of the first live service games I don't get sick of hearing about.
@thejoesenone brilliant..I knew he was a lizard in a humans skin 🤣
I honestly have been loving the way Arrowhead is marketing this game and how they are (cheekily) gas lighting all of the fans. Some other companies could take a hint.
