Helldivers 2 will just not stop selling, apparently. The co-op focused shooter is close to being a month old, and by this point, most games have seen their sales numbers fall off a cliff — but not Helldivers 2. In what is an extremely rare occurrence, sales figures have continued to rise in the US.
"Helldivers 2 US sales went up yet again during its third week in market. An honest-to-goodness inverse decay curve so far," says ever-informative Circana analyst Mat Piscatella.
From our perspective, Helldivers 2 has benefitted massively from positive word of mouth. It's the only real explanation for what's going on here, as the game didn't have a huge amount of hype behind it upon release (although reports state that launch sales were still strong, despite the absence of a full-scale marketing campaign).
So, it's safe to say Helldivers 2 has been a success. Arrowhead and Sony must be over the moon, but how do you feel about the game's seemingly unstoppable momentum? Run for cover in the comments section below.

I've gotten at least a half dozen to buy that otherwise would have never even considered it lol. Games just a blast. Between that and Rebirth I could not play anything else this year and not feel like I missed anything either. Sony obviously knew nothing from 1st parties would finish baking this year and made smart publishing/contract decisions to get bangers on the system.
In the UK it spent the whole weekend ahead of FF7 Rebirth on the PSN “Top 10 games in your country”. On PS time tracker which has a sample of about 10k it had roughly twice as many players as FF7. This data doesn’t account for FF’s popularity in Japan but thats kinda insane that it beat FF7 Rebirth in its opening weekend in the west.
I suspect it’s going to push close to 20m units this year and be one of the absolute sensations of the decade.
Steam sales alone are estimated to be anywhere between 3.5M(playtracker) to 6.7m(VG Insights).already and it’s still number 1 in global top sellers.
A lot of it will be because of the good price point too. It’s less than half the price of a new AAA game which makes it very easy to buy after a little nudge from friends.
@Nyne11Tyme People complain about it and I understand the frustration in not seeing first-party stuff for so long, but you can't argue with Sony's eye for third-party deals. It picks out winners time and time again.
Loving it still. My hype for it hasn't faded since launch.
My old Destiny 1 crew has even gotten back together to play this. We hadn't played anything together in years.
The fact that you can do the war bonds/battle pass at your own pace too makes the journey towards unlocking the gear you want a lot of fun.
@Nyne11Tyme Sony didn’t just suddenly decide to make a deal for this game. They own the IP in totality, they have been working with Arrowhead on this franchise for like 10+ years straight. They supported the game through a very very long development cycle as Arrowhead went from a 20 man studio to one that’s ~100 people.
@ShogunRok Forspoken has entered the chat 😬
Democracy is spreading!
I am getting it first thing after my FF7 Rebirth play. Thinking of balling on PC though unless PS5 has more stability?
@ChrisDeku well obviously they didn't just decide this last minute lol. I was never insinuating that. But to have the foresight to fill gaps in your software releases has been paramount to their success
@Intr1n5ic You win this round.
The power of freedom!
I love this game, I hope it’s active for years to come. Every mission winds up playing out differently, and the community has been really non-toxic so far.
@Nyne11Tyme At this point Arrowhead is psudo first party, like how Sucker Punch wasn't until Second Son or after, but in practice was beforehand as far as output goes anyway.
Loving it. Absolutely brilliant online but I do wish people would use a headset or at least the mic in the controller to let you know they just called in an Eagle napalm strike right on top of the squad..
"It's the only real explanation for what's going on here, as the game didn't have a huge amount of hype behind it upon release"
Yeah, I mean when I saw the trailer (think it was during the game awards?) I was just kinda "meh, alright" and had no intention of getting it. Then it came out and after reading the articles about it, and seeing how not mean and nasty most of the community was being about the technical issues, I had to get it.
Also, it rules to gift games on steam, wish I could on PS 😟
Well deserved a FANTASTIC game from FANTASTIC devs.
Watching it at the top downloads and also out of stock in my XBOX/COD/FIFA country has been great.
I bought it a few days ago and having lots of fun playing it. I just wish it would come to Xbox so I can play with my friends there.
Ahh. I just referenced this game in FF article.
It literally hasn't dropped below FF Rebirth in the UK Digital store page yet (during FF's launch week), which must show signs of its great sales strength here in the UK Digital market too 👏👏 bravo
The game is going to have long legs. Sales could easily spike each time new updates come out not to mention after a year or two, Sony will add it to plus to increase the player base.
Happy for Arrowhead. I wrote this game off as another February release and now I'm tryna get all my friends to buy this game.
I’ve got a few folk from work on it myself. Everyone loves it but then it’s not hard to see why. Truly a great game this and the avenues for what they can do with it are wide open. It’s a ten from len 👍
@ChrisDeku over on pure xbox people are convinced that Sony bought the rights to this game and are pretty sure it will come to xbox , I have kindly pointed out that Sony has owned the ip since 2015 , it is no way different to spiderman, god war or the last of us etc
Its crazy how popular this game is but its well deserved as its brilliant, well done Arrowhead.
@Shushibda They're a community that hates when Sony do 3rd party deals but have zero issue with MS doing them. Its why despite owning an Xbox i rarely go over there as its too toxic with too many fanboys.
I feel like they did the good thing hiring more people post launch to accelerate the free content making. It is missing lots of content from the first game and by around 100hrs game mark you usually have everything unlocked already except some season pass stuff.
It's lovely game still imo. Really can't wait for the illuminate race to join in the fight and some of the guns need tweaking to make them more useful.
Also game is still bugging, we keep facing off the issue where shuffle leaves everyone behind as soon as the first player enters it, meaning we lose samples.
I would give it 8.5/10, mainly because it is still missing lots of content from the first game. But good thing is that all of it will be added in eventually as we seen from leaked footage and pictures.
It’s a really fun game, refreshing that it’s just a game and nothing else. The mechanics are simple and other than the servers has been ‘Bug Free’ just like the recently liberated home system.
Obviously there will be new threats (northern and southern planets) and we already know about mechs, which will be a squishy TK fest I’m afraid.
I don't normally play or like shooter games
But this? This is it gang. Good stuff. Helldivers 2 and Remnant 2 are both phenomenal games in a genre I normally don't care for
@Intr1n5ic It’s been suggested that Forspoken and maybe even Foamstars were part of a package deal with Sony for the rights to FF7 Remake/Rebirth and FF16 exclusivity. Like, “if you want FF then you have to also take these other games over here that we’re less confident in…”
Sales don't automatically mean the games a success. A live service game as we all know needs a sustained and growing fanbase. Unfortunately I don't think HD2 will last long. Most are already moving on.
I quote from Steam Stats:
At the moment, HELLDIVERS™ 2 has 286,806 concurrent players online and in-game. This is 37% lower than its previous all-time peak of 458,046 players achieved on 2/25/2024.
It's still a decent enough game though I guess.
What do you expect the fact their teasing another faction is coming back from the first game which I haven't played, probably will come at the bottom of the space map. Which will lead to new weapons and hopefully new strategems I love the fact that 1 guy is charged of live bits and was apparently getting up in the middle of the night.
With an idea that popped into his head and it activated an invasion from the bugs side out of nowhere, the community defended it within half a day lol.
@Th3solution Why it should have been on Xbox because it's a great game and people move on far to quick in some situations. Having it on Xbox as well would have still kept the player count big and should it fall for a while new content comes in a it peaks across the board
@NinjaNicky yeah I actually can't disagree with what you said. PC players always whine about something 😀. I agree on your assessment of player counts too, however there is a major roadblock you mentioned. The level cap. Unfortunately it will most likely stay at 50. That was the problem with HD1. The cap there never raised so once you had all the stratagems and killed a billion or two bugs n mechs, it got - not boring (I still play HD1 on PS4) but very 'samey '.
@DennisReynolds you're not kidding , they get very angry , very quickly
@jedinite @NinjaNicky on a weekday the concurrent count is always going to be less than what we were seeing. Doesn't mean there's a drop off at all. Case in point, this last weekend, there were 440,000 and 430,000 on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
Plus as more factions, features, stratagems and missions are added, the more it'll stay consistent.
Plus I don't think it's that easy to get to level 50, unless you play like 6+ hours a day and have been doing so since near launch.
@GKT I thought this as well when I first saw the trailers. Was actually a tiktok that caught my attention on the game and then I started reading comments on youtube and was sold. I know it's cliche to say now but I really haven't enjoyed a game this much in a long time!
@JuiceboxMeister Dropped in a game that was in progress last night. Immediately entered the combo for the railgun upon landing, but accidentally hit ➡️ again after, selecting my impact grenade...which I threw at my feet...killing me instantly and blowing my lifeless body into the air. It wasn't easy to stop laughing lol. So yeah, I'm right there with you, haven't enjoyed a game this much in quite some time 🙂
@GeminiReign not once have I said I want HD2 to die. And yes this gen I much prefer Xbox, just as last gen I preferred PS4. Hence why i visit these sites, plus a number more including Nintendo.Back in the 70s I was an Atari boy, so? And you're right I don't have a PS5, nor for I want one.
I'll wait for PS6 thnx. And yes I do have an AMD rig which is more than capable.
@jedinite Exactly, it's a "new fad" game getting hits for streamers/content creators. Only 1 of my friends list plays it, and honestly, I thinks he's so bored already, as he's only played twice since launch. He keeps returning to TD2....
And the few streamers I personally know, barely touched it after day 1....
It's just a FAD right now...
