There are games that sold better at physical retail in the UK last week, but Helldivers 2 is doing something most other titles aren't. In almost all cases, a game's sales will spike immediately and then quickly taper off, settling into a steady rhythm after the first few weeks. However, Arrowhead's smash hit co-op shooter is going against that norm, with sales increasing week-on-week (in the UK, at least).
The game made its debut in the boxed chart at number seven, and remained there (with increased sales figures) in its second week. Now, the game has jumped up to number four, with better sales numbers yet again, as observed by GamesIndustry's Christopher Dring:
Elsewhere, EA Sports FC 24 is back at number one after a few weeks bouncing around the top 10. Hogwarts Legacy remains in second, while Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 moves up from ninth to sixth. Interestingly, both LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor have force leapt up the chart, now in eighth and 10th respectively. Finally, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 crawls back into the top 10 at last, now at number nine.
Here's the latest top 10 in full (physical sales only).
UK Sales Charts: Week Ending 24th February, 2024
- EA Sports FC 24
- Hogwarts Legacy
- Mario vs. Donkey Kong
- Helldivers 2
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
- Marvel's Spider-Man 2
- Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

This is what happens when a smaller game exceeds expectations. Congratulations Arrowhead & Sony.
It is a brilliant game and well deserved, the price point helps too which hopefully other devs have taken note of!!!
I have been directly responsible for 3 of those sales this week. Doing my part for managed democracy!
For what I would consider an indie it's doing extremely well to be in there with the big IP's.
A lot of angry twitter users eating crow right now.
Think of those 12 extra copies it would sell if it was on Xbox too!
Game deserves success. For someone that doesnt like multiplayer games its sure pulled me in. Lvl 14 now and attempting harder difficulty missions. Very good game indeed that will continue to grow as more missions, galaxies, weapons, enemy species(hopefully) etc get added. This games got legs longer than a bile titan.
@Enigk i wonder how that petition is going? 😂
Crazy what has happened with this game!
This is a great game, but I think the price point has also helped massively.
Congrats to them, they deserve it!
@GuttyYZ it has but when you consider some F2P games dont even come close to the success of Helldivers 2 that makes it even more impressive.
Totally blindsided Sony this one
The Batman Arkham Trilogy is at #23 and Suicide Squad is at #24. Sort of funny to see that.
For me, I’ve yet to really dive into Helldivers much as of yet. The servers were so populated that it felt like a waste to get the game. I might give it a second shot this week before FF7 comes out.
This is what happens when a game comes out of nowhere and is advertised through word of mouth etc due to the game being fun.
The next challenge is how they handle adding new content.
This has been such an uplifting story at a time when most stories involving the gaming industry are so relentlessly negative. Almost warms my heart, as ridiculous as that sounds about what is still essentially business.
Imagine how the people at Arrowhead must be feeling, must be a fantastic time to be at that studio right now.
@Loamy I really would like to try it out to see what all the hype is about. It’s sort of reminded me of Splitgate a bit, given that’s the last game I’ve had to wait over 2 hours to get into (and then get booted after two matches). My friends and I all fell into the hype, but it’s a challenge to coordinate 2+ hours of gaming wait time for a bunch of guys in their mid-30s with no guarantee we’ll all get on. Lol. I’m hoping the servers are functional, given the new updates. The community response has still been largely positive, given the server issues.
Arrowhead deserve every bit of praise for this fantastic achievement. I was lauding this game months before it launched and hoping that people would give it a chance and that the player base would be large enough.. well that turned out to be no issue at all 🔥 bravo Arrowhead
@somnambulance no issues with getting in to games at all now. Takes seconds to join a party of randoms.
I bit today.
the FOMO was unbearable from the great clips online, plus the server side has been increased again so hopefully i'll get in
Good word of mouth, FOMO, and a very reasonable price tag no doubt helping those sales figures go up. I only bought it 2 days ago and enjoying it so far.
Being a budget priced game was a great decision. People are much more willing to give a game a chance.
Dang this game is a boom. And they fix the server issue now. Maybe it’s time to buy the game. Does the gunplay is kinda addictive and fun?
For Helldivers 2 the physical sales are probably only about 10-20% of overall sales. Playerbase sampling and Steam estimates puts the overall worldwide sales in the 6-8M range already.
@amatmulisha absolutely and also incredibly satisfying
@amatmulisha Guns feel great and the game can go from incredibly tense to incredibly silly (and the other way) very quick. It's awesome.
@Kidfunkadelic83 @TwoDents Glad to hear that! It looks like I’ll be getting the band back together for some pyrotechnics soon then.
Word of mouth has been crazy for it.
@Loamy now is a great time to dive in. It's been smooth sailing since like Wednesday/Thursday
@ChrisDeku I think it's around 3-4m right now. Don't think 6m for a game this size in less than a month is realistic. Maybe if we were a couple weeks into March.
Plus with this game, from what I'm seeing it has a pretty high retention/play rate? So if it had 6m sales I think we'd be seeing so many more issues with the server than we are now. Like 800,000 CCU wouldn't be enough.
@Mikey856 @voltan thanks mate. Glad to hear that. Im gonna get it soon.
@ChrisDeku wow! really? Not just a hit then but an absolute smash!!
I want to get into this game before all the Meta take over an the game and players becomes to serious. So will be buying it this week.
@knowles2 It's already happening ... turning off crossplay may help, but maybe that's stereotyping PC players on my part.
