With Dragon's Dogma 2 currently enthralling players worldwide, it might seem too soon for some to contemplate another open world epic from storied developer Capcom, but here we are. Reliable leakster Dusk Golem let slip a few morsels from sources on Discord, and they seem pretty confident that this one will arrive in Q1 of 2025, writing, "I don't think even GTA VI would make them delay it."
Monster Hunter Wilds was revealed in December, but we still know little about it. According to Dusk Golem (thanks, Eurogamer), it will be "fully open world," something Monster Hunter fans have been dreaming of forever, as previous games have always been segmented into smaller, separate explorable areas: "That was [Capcom's] idea from day one. The entire game revolves around it, from story to endgame."
According to Dusk Golem (AKA AestheticGamer), Wilds has been in development since 2019 and will feature "a lot of the scrapped ideas from World." Wilds' director, Yuya Tokuda, who served in the same capacity on Monster Hunter World, has been given "complete freedom [for the development of Wilds], pretty much no questions asked... by far the biggest game they ever attempted."
Are you ready for another massive Capcom open world epic, one with even more monsters, if you could imagine? Let us know in the comments section below.

Not surprising there going big on it. MHW is the biggest Capcom game ever.
Don't know about this as this will completely change the structure and feel of MH.
@DennisReynolds I genuinely think you'll get a slight idea how it'll be like with Dragon's Dogma 2 tbh besides the RPG part of the game and maybe climbing monsters.
So is it going to be like the Guiding Lands but bigger?
@Nepp67 Maybe though i get the impression The Guiding Lands from Iceborne could be used as the prototype as its the closest we get to a open world map.
Um... maybe eurogamer and push square should do a little more looking into stuff before reporting it:

Yeah, I don't know man I always bounce off whenever I try to get into these games. I was pretty hopeful for Rise. It wasn't impenetrable, but definitely required more attention and learning than I was willing to give. I'll probably try this one too.
@DennisReynolds they kinda already have it in mh world, with the guiding lands, admittedly it isn’t a huge open world but monster come and go and so on, so they probably saw how many people enjoyed the endgame and are working that angle
@PsBoxSwitchOwner You see that's my fear as i really didn't like the Guiding Lands and it was my least favourite thing about World/IB. Maybe on a far larger scale with more stuff to do it could work better but as it is in IB i found it way too grindy even by MH standards and i always found it jarring how unnaturally close the various biomes were to each other.
@DennisReynolds I’d like to hope this would be on a bigger scale and with more than 2/3 hunts present.
But monster hunter ice borne was my favourite game of ps4 era with over 1000hrs in it, and I still go back often. So I’ll be there day 1 regardless!
As long as it doesn't go live service.
I fine with a base game and then a large expansion like iceborne for World.
If its fully open world, prepare to run into larger monsters without the right gear and preparation.
Havn't played since the PSP days (minus checking out the demo of Rise on Switch). I'm gonna jump into this one tho!
and open world seems natural progression just hoping it won't go the (Blizzard) MMO route cause what game not better fitted for mtx..
That sounds awesome. Looking forward to it.
Yes, it's a trend. But in the case of Monster Hunter, it makes sense. It's always been limited in map size and what could be in it and different monsters would share the same nests.
Having an open world where every monster has it's own place and they can't just run away from the map and despawn will make things more realistic.
Also, will be great if we can take more than one quest at a time.
@DennisReynolds Yeah that was my thought as well although it seemed like they were even testing it with World because there are some things you can do for exploration like the crafting materials, some people giving you a side quest to do, and finding campsites for fast travel locations.
I thought it being split up into distinct maps always worked well for the Monster Hunter formula, so I'm a little apprehensive about these rumours.
Its all good.take your time capcom.im still playing monster hunter world.its one of the best video games ever made.word up son
Hey mate, Dusk Golem already confirmed that was fake, someone created that image, he didn't say anything about Wilds.
This would be great if it happened. I've never liked the PSP instanced level limitations existing in modern versions.
Horrible idea, just like Resident Evil possibly going open world with RE 9 is a horrible idea. Not every game needs this setting.
As interesting as an open world MH would be I’d rather stuck how making the maps have fully explorable area similar to how they did with World and Rise.
I’m sure they could get an open world MH game work but I loved how they did the maps for World and Rise.
The guiding lands was a great feature for World, I could see them expanding on that if they choose to
@crimsontadpoles
True I love how they got rid of the load screens between areas loading for World and Rise makes the gameplay a lot better for MH.
The old games always had waiting to load between areas lucky it never counted towards the quest timer when areas loaded up.
I could see them expanding on Guiding lands though maybe as an extra feature they could add
