The all-but-official PS5 Pro has been a prominent talking point over the last couple of weeks, especially with leaked specifications and the like only adding fuel to the fire. But from our perspective, it's starting to seem like Sony has a fairly hard sell on its hands — even if the mid-gen upgrade ends up being aimed squarely at hardcore PlayStation fans.
Indeed, we recently discussed the PS5 Pro in a dedicated feature, simply titled Talking Point: How Do You Feel About the PS5 Pro? We gathered opinions from our editorial team, but we also asked for readers to share their own thoughts, via a poll at the bottom of the article, and the comments section.
The results of said poll paint a somewhat divided picture. Based on 2,200 votes, just 23% of Push Square users said they'd buy a PS5 Pro on release, although a further 11% said they were "interested". 16% said they simply need to know more about the console.
And then things get a bit more negative. 17% said they don't think the upgraded console is necessary — a common perspective in the comments section as well — while 23% said they're fine with their current PS5. And lastly, 11% said they hate the idea of there being a PS5 Pro.
So, we're basically looking at a 50-50 split between enthusiasm and cynicism here.

Do you find these poll results at all surprising? Where do you stand on the PS5 Pro right now? Take a step back and observe the community in the comments section below.

The price is gonna be a big factor
@Ultrasmiles I've got a strong feeling it ain't gonna be cheap. In fact, I can see it being even more expensive than people expect. Sony's in love with high-price (optional) products this gen.
These polls seem to have no real weight as I think the portal one was negative and the same people who bought that will be playing their PS5 Pro on it.
I don't think it will be as successful as PS4 Pro (inflation, potentially higher price etc), but if that poll did turn out to be a reflection of overall sales, 23% of 55,000,000 is 12,650,000 (or so Google tells me). PS4 Pro did around 14,000,000 by Jan 2020.
I doubt PS5 Pro will sell that many units. In fact I'd say that's beyond Sony's wildest dreams.
A healthy niche is what they will be hoping for here. Enough to spread the word about PSSR. The market will be somewhere between the folks who bought the base PS5 and the folks who bought the InZone PC gear.
For myself, hopefully my house will be done by next Christmas. If it is I'll be getting a PS5 Pro to celebrate.
It isn't mandatory to buy, won't negatively impact games on the base model, and likely means a permanent price cut for the base model. Do not understand the negativity. Day one upgrade for me and I expect the price to be reasonable. £499-£549.
I would be in the "not needed" camp if I didn't have to sell my PS5 a few months ago.
Right now I'm actually waiting to know more but I'm thinking I can wait till the holidays for a Pro. Maybe get a steam deck in the meantime... Man, we need a new PSP.
I’ll be honest: If it runs the very majority (90%+) of ps5 games at 4K and 60fps I am willing to spend even 600-700€ on this.
There is a fairly decent PC in this house but most of the times it runs games slightly worse than the Ps5 and for some games like Final Fantasy I don’t even have the option to play them onPC till later on so …yeah, maybe it’s just for some people but I can see this having a market.
On the other hand I am more worried about the extra stress this will put on developers. I remember when FF15, of alll games, had to to do some extra tuning because the release date slipped past the PS4 Pro release date LOL As if it hadn’t already had its fair share of development drama
I don't feel surprised about poll results. But I thought that it would be more negative. I'm glad, that I can play my PS5 games in Pro quality on PS6 in future.
@arsmolinarc funny you should mention the PSP - I've gone on holiday to Cornwall for a week and charged up my Vita to bring along. I'd forgotten just how brilliant that system is. Packed full of great games. I could probably not bother with another console and wouldn't get bored for months. Hopefully Sony will revisit the idea some day.
Since I only play live service games which are the most expensive ones, it is only natural to also purchase the most expensive iteration of the console.
It really depends on the price for me. I don’t see it being under £700 by which point I’ll stick with my gaming laptop and base PS5 thanks.
myself i'd rather a ps5 pro and hold off the ps6 , then the ps6 could and should be even more advanced.
If PS5 Pro can provide 4k@60fps in Quality Mode for current and (at least) near future games, I'll even preorder. No RT, no 8k, no 120fps, I don't care about marketing BS, 4k@60fps minimum in Quality Mode and I'm game.
If not, then I don't see the point, I'll stick to my PS5 and PC.
Right now I feel like the next playstation I'll buy is PS6 pro (unless my 5 breaks).
I’ll buy it. because when they write “PRO” on any product I feel like they’re talking to me and buy it. Yes, even yoghurts.
Interesting that is basically split right down the middle. I expected the majority would say no to a Pro but what do I know?
@Scrubchub a new PSP that also plays oldschool PS games from gens 1 to 4 including psp and vita is money that Sony is just leaving om the table.
Right now it's the perfect storm moment to try again: PS Portal sold out against ALL expectations, Portable PCs are super popular, the switch's success and upcoming switch 2. There's evidence that there is a BIG market for handhelds and frankly the money spent on PSVR2 would be better spend on a new portable.
Sony's VR efforts are commendable but there is no market that justifies the money and time spent. VR needs to be a wireless experience otherwise we are were we are at.
In shorts: YES. NEW PSP. NOW PLEASE.
@Ghostngoblins
?
The tittle implies most people who visit this site and comment are ps fans and oh boy that's far from the truth lol
They aren’t even close to challenging PS5’s limits yet. So this is quite frankly mad. I’m trying to think of the games I’ve thought looked great and they almost all were released on PS4 too.
In fairness, the same polling audience said they weren't interested in the Portal, and it was a sellout. Same people bugged up the PSVR2 and that sold badly. Same in reality for PSVita and TV and they sold relatively bad. Point being never trust the polls
Over the last year I've transitioned over to my PC being my main gaming machine, with the PS5 and Switch being there for first-party games, so my opinion may be a little biased.
I don't see a Pro being necessary at all at this point. Sure the console will sport a little more power then the base version and some AI tech, but like I said on the article with the poll, the PS5 hasn't even hit it's ceiling yet.
@Czar_Khastik - As I actually do only play live service games I can't afford to buy a PS5 Pro, or food.
It depends what the real game difference is when you I’m sitting in front of me top end 65” TV.
We all forget these top end TVs already have very good upscaling inside them and some do an amazing job.
I can playing a PS5 game running at around 1440p or 1800p and you have trouble telling any difference to native 4K, see the TV is doing its good job of upscaling to fit the TVs 4K pixel count.
Add to that VRR and some motion stuff the PS5 Pro seems less of a requirement than the PS4 Pro did back in the day.
Unless the PS5 Pro specs up games like some super ultra PC native 4K full 60fps and every single ultra setting the game can do on a top end PC then there seems little point.
Basically the PS5 Pro going on rumoured specifications and DF report it will bring tiny improvements to almost the point of diminishing returns at not worth it.
Just my opinion here.
Why are we getting a pro? Heck where are the first party games Sony? If feels like in all honesty that this generation just got started!
I’m usually a day oner but I’m going to wait and see on this. If there’s something that makes it a must have, then maybe, but it’s gonna need to knock the ball out of the park The Natural style.

I don't think people are aware that this thing is probably going to be between $700 and $850... to play the same games they already have because nothing new is coming out this year for PlayStation.
How do developers feel about Sony fragmenting the market? There's already dissatisfaction in the Xbox world about having to develop for Series X and Series S...is PS5 going down that same road?
Personally I'd be happy if there was even one title that makes the most of the technology we were promised in this generation before considering upgrading.
The vast majority of this generation has been cross-gen games, it doesn’t feel like developers have came close to pushing the PS5, so, unless my PS5 dies I have little interest in a pro, and I bought a PS4 Pro when it released.
How about some games Sony big and AAA campaign wise.
Oh forgot it’s not April 2025 yet.
Xbox and rightly so got such a bashing for this the other year and there doesn’t seem to be a peep when Sony do it.
This new generation still feels like last generation with hardly any difference and really has been a let down, apart from slightly faster loading times.
@Aggirivator They're perplexed by it for the most part. They don't see the need for it.
But as long as Sony don't mandate two iterations of every game or something annoying like that, nobody will care.
The DF argument that the clock speed is too low to move the needle is compelling. If I didn't have a PC I would probably upgrade, but as it stands I can settle for GTA as-is
All the same people who say they don't want a Pro are going to be rushing to their local game store when GTA6 comes out and can only get 30fps on their launch PS5 and now they can't get one and those that did get one will be enjoying the game to the fullest.
Furthermore, we all know Rockstar doesn't release on PC for 2 years after the console so the best place to play GTA6, whenever it releases, is going to be on the PS5 PRO.
It will be interesting to see how well this post ages...lol...
50% interested in it. That's far more than I expected there to be tbh
I’ll wait and see before I offer my opinion
@MikeOrator tbf GTA 6 will more than likely be 30 on the Pro as well according to DF. 40 fps mode is the best option hopefully there's at least that
@OldGamer999 one doesn't affect the other though. It isn't Sonys fault every developer is having poor output. They make the consoles not the games.
Wow 23% cant wait to play all those optimised ps4 games. Wait what? They arent even optimised for ps5 ? Ok then take your ps5 and stick it
@OmegaStriver spot on and I feel the 18 months devs usually take to get used to new hardware is probably more due to cross gen gaming. I’d say PS5 will now be hitting its stride with a 50M install base
@OldGamer999 and let’s be honest in April 2025 it’s not the best time of the year to release your best games. So we might not see a big AAA from Sony until closer to October of 2025. Then the 300,000 pound gorilla might be let out of its gage named GTA6 and good luck releasing any game around its launch and selling good numbers.
I bet it sells okay in the end. I'm sure there will be some use case for it for the hardcore / early adopter crowd. Probably something like better framerate, which is negligible and unimpressive for a lot of people (me), but crucial and all-important to many others. Maybe some VR2 compatibility?
@VaultGuy415 i mean for comparison.
PS5 Pro CPU Speed 3.85ghz
Xbox Series X CPU Speed 3.80 ghz
Yeah no way GTA 6 being a CPU intensive open world is moving it at 60fps on console unless there is some secret magic we don’t know about. 😀
@HonestHick
It’s not been a vintage generation for me this one so far. More like fizzy drink once in a blue moon.
I think GTA6 will be 2026 now.
@Andy22385
Hang on Sony own the developers like naughty dog etc and many more.
They are the ones that make the big AAA campaign games exclusive for Sony as Sony own them.
@MikeOrator
I think the post will age okay. A lot of people, particularly in this community, view the GTA series as a soulless cash grab live service abomination that may or may not have caused irreparable damage to the gaming industry by very successfully filling the niche of a mass-appeal, casual game akin to Fortnight for adults.
Okay, I'm projecting a bit. I'm sure it will sell bucket loads. But yeah, there is some kind of anti-GTA bent around here. Loved the single player in 5.
@OldGamer999 yeah this gen hasn’t been very fun at all and thats with me owning all 3 consoles. GTA 6 could slip for sure. If it does and i were anyone not named Rockstar games, i would launch my games then and now. Cause again when that hits that will be most people time and money for gaming for a while.
Every generation a game comes out that makes my jaw hit the floor, it does something I know the previous generation could never handle. We’ve just not had any of those games this generation.
We’ve had plenty of great games, but the ones that weren’t cross-gen (and few those are in themselves) haven’t blown me away graphically or mechanically in the same way.
For me, still seems completely unnecessary, i haven't seen a game this gen that has blown my socks off, 3-4 years in the PS4 gen and things were cranking, i haven't seen anything on PS5 that is on par with TLOU2(except the remaster). The fact we are still getting cross gen games and the Series S being underpowered might be holding things back
@Ghostngoblins
They got some marketing geniuses over there I tell ya. Slap 'Pro' on it and you just feel inadequate using anything less. What does it do? Who cares, that's a question an amateur would ask.
80% of the time, it works every time.
@HonestHick
Well I’m sort of hoping that Switch 2 would have been making an appearance end of 2024 with some stellar AAA.
@Hyena_socks were at a point of diminishing returns . gaming arguably hit its peak with 7th gen, and was refined with 8th gen (HD gaming was perfected with steady frame rate, true 1080p, robust online, unreal engine 4, etc)
@Hyena_socks
Yeah agreed! For PS2 it was God of War 2 for me. PS3, it was The Last of Us. PS4, it was Uncharted 4. Games that make you go 'woah' (at least graphically anyways). The only game that came close this gen to doing that for me was the Demons Souls remake and Ratchet and Clank of all things, both launch window titles.
I feel the base PS5 is thoroughly untapped at this point and while plenty of good games have released, no 'woah', moments so far. Maybe we can't expect these big graphical jumps between consoles anymore.
@UnlimitedSevens “ Maybe we can't expect these big graphical jumps between consoles anymore.”
i honestly hope that’s true, it’s a waste of resources and especially storage space at this point. the amount of games that take up an absurd amount of memory and processing just for the graphics alone is annoying. Gaming will never look 100% realistic so i hope the industry shifts focus to improving other aspects of video games (and bring aesthetic/artstyles back to games ffs , a lot of games look the same now with crystal clear HD and buttery smooth textures and bright colors)
If it comes out I'll pre order it 🤷. I had the ps5, got the slim soon as it came out and will get the pro straight away. Same with whatever Xbox does and the next major upgrade for the steam deck ( replaced my launch one with and OLED one)
I imagine it will be around the 600 mark which is fine all things considered.
@nomither6
"bring aesthetic/artstyles back to games"
Yes, this. You remember how PS3 got a lot of flack for muddy, washed out color pallettes in AAA games? PS4/PS5 went to this hyper realistic thing recently for AAA. There are definitely these distinct eras of graphical styles throughout the different consoles.
I was referring specifically to graphics but I think the woah moment I was talking about can be other things. Like an ingenious game mechanic. Enemies following your footprints in the snow in Metal Gear Solid or the paint brush mechanic in Okami also hit me the same way. It doesn't need to be just amazing graphics, I think like a lot of people have said the PS5 could offer this through its SSD and integrating that somehow into a novel game mechanic (Rift Apart came close but I'm talking about more than seamless world transitions)
@pirlega or they want to play the PS5 only console games. I haven't played a game that was on PS4 for 6 months 🤣
To me I'd rather they work out their engines. Better hardware doesn't mean anything if the devs aren't working well with their custom tools (if UE5 as their engine and they have tools suited to them bolted with it) or custom engines.
So while I thought more from an I don't care myself with the poll I'm taking a different angle. The tech side.
But then again I don't care about GTA6 or certain other big games. XD I care about gameplay not mass appealing games with certain details that sometimes are cool other times pretty typical and don't appeal to me. So I don't fit the camp people think of the console fan or the want this and that. I'm the gimmicky controller, enjoys all consoles failed or successful, uses all platforms for different reasons and loves the tech and techniques type. Aka the enthusiast but not an enthusiast for pro hardware unless it's used well not a pro for 'oh what will it offer' because well the GPU upgrade isn't interest to me if the CPU/RAM are still limited and a new CPU unless overclocked or other changes makes it a whole new console almost at that point of relevance.
I do care about frame rate but I do gameplay. I seek niche and big games based on gameplay or themes/setting and level design heightening it.
I care about AA/Indies these days even if I look at the few AAA I do see people talk about or buy and I have short distance/hear about it from those that do in person.
But I still understand or try to (besides behind the scenes sources) about gaming or try to understand how ray tracing can be used even if I don't like it. I try to understand anti aliasing, and I have over time. Cutscenes with motion blur or just the view grass can have in motion. Stuff like that.
Look at AC Unity going through buildings, now think about partial inside buildings windows, to painted insides. That's a big difference right? Survival games have lower end graphics and have enough caves, building assets and camera perspectives of what the character has loaded or unloaded of view. Other games may work the same I don't know but at the same time isn't the more impressive world inviting then just oh a person with a billboard outside this big building or inside 1 key big building, or seeing inside ALL BIG buildings. Part of it is 'is it necessary' do they need that many no they don't so they don't do that, but stealth/chase not even but it's still impressive on a tech scale yes?
FF7 Rebirth minigames take up how much time then a quest. Let alone some lack things. Chocobo falling challenges have no camera control, the underneath isn't always clear. That's a thing Bubsy tried and many games have improved on since. Some polish lacks for side content sometimes. Skill trees than upgrades placed around.
They keep adding to with their existing engines but not refining them enough. Trending gameplay or graphics targets they try to meet as competing products but sometimes they don't come close to others because of the effort others do with the graphics techniques, the AI, the gameplay design ideas, gameplay concepts can push hardware, graphics in doing so also pushes the hardware based on the scale of the world, the events, the particle effects, many factors IF they offer it and put into practice/testing to see how it turns out.
if they are low scale quests to just get items, or something and return them sure it has that gameplay and basic conversations, if complexity sure if they have a big event happen or many waves of enemies, a long dialogue tree and more going on so it's a larger scale quest in length or just things going on to make it impactful but still a short quest in length then yeah it's a different scale.
Engines matter. Better hardware can be good but just because fans want console war nonsense or 8K, better frame rates sure or teraflop numbers people want to drool over of numbers like sales and a bunch of buzz words to be impressed by I'm going to say not thanks. People need to understand.
It's no different to just time, effort and making a good painting. It can be down to technique, the brush they used, it doesn't need always glossy paper then a canvas or to be a sculptor with 8K then a canvas with 4K. I know I went a bit off there but still the point is compare it to something else without the misunderstood tech aspects and it's not that hard.
The sandwich can have any stuffing in it, you can cook it for extra crunch, you can put anything you want in the sandwich. Healthy or not, delicious or not. It is art or it is a worthy sandwich for many other reasons to cook with it or to just put many simple ingredients then altering it too much with toasting it, or whatever flour the bread had.
Devs/pub releases and better engine improvements take time and also they need to balance releases and engines to make better products.
Heck I go back years ago and go yep that loading time was better than current gen, these mechanics, these possibilities were cut for this game due to hardware, their engine or what was already good enough to present in the game.
With cut Spec Ops The Line moments to Infamous 1 and Second Son the dynamic moments to respond then 'get enough good/bad points' to do a story quest was not immersive it was glaring the game design different and years apart to be more clear for players but gamified then immersive. Besides the Mass Effect Paragon, Renegade system but it didn't punish me then level 4 good, oops level 3 good then game design flexibility of the skill tree.
Or even AC UNity going in buildings. We have survival games do this with worse graphics. Yet AAA want blockbuster and yet cut back scale of the world or too many objects, NPCs or other thintgs. So the animations, AI differ over the years. The quests are either basic or involved.
Or like Jak 2 & 3 or Rise of the Ronin how they go about scale of some areas of the open world or the side areas, different region aside it can feel very oh this is segmented off the open world.
Little details in games can be there but mostly gone these days. Even then I noticed in a Ratchet 2016 playthrough part of it's little touches were there but most other entries in the series had more of them. Sometimes those go away between games.
For necessity, for the audience, for the devs thoughts on presentation. It varies. Or yes trends.
To me trends make it clear of how much can companies compete but how incapable is their engines to try and do similar. Or how easy it doing some things in it but not others besides their differences in design goals still for their worlds, gameplay, story, etc.
On a tech scale people don't look that far. I didn't like RIft Apart, it lied in it's marketing beacuse I know how Spyro low res levels were with a swimming in the air glitch to Ratchet Crack in Time skyboxes, areas to set up it's same assets, different lighting and teleporting around to each segment of it's aftermath, in the past, fixed reality approach.
Rift Apart was scripted to segments but not taking advantage of that. That's why I hated it. Besides the eh remade levels with less impressive things in them then the Tools of Destruction originals being better and the elements in the PS3 games were just better. Insomniac did the 2&3 to Tools and it worked well besides it's new. Rift Apar4t's new is weak in execution in comparison.
@OldGamer999 you're right they do, but naughty dog etc do the work. Sony can't just suddenly stop production because they're not putting effort in. Especially the companies that aren't actually involved with Sony
@UnlimitedSevens yeah spot on tbh. Last of us and Uncharted 4 are mine too on those 2 systems. I will say Plague Tale Requiem my jaw did drop a bit though. That's the best looking game I've ever seen in person. Isn't quite the PS3 to PS4 jump though
@arsmolinarc absolutely agree as that is the only hardware move that would get more people to play more games.
A pro would have marginally better visuals, but I'm still bound to only play it at home and when the kids are in bed.
Especially now how the handheld market is heating up and where lesser powered hardware can get similar results with AI upscaling and frame generation, now is the perfect storm.
The only thing where Sony could mess it up would be if a new psp wouldn't support existing games, but would need ports.
Sony would also be selling more VR games if they'd let you use other VR headsets on the ps5, but for some reason they think that they can make their hardware sales profitable.
Why would i care if there is a extra option. Its so annoying that people cry about everything now.
@OldGamer999 yeah i am disappointed that the Switch 2 slipped to 2025. I was also leaning on it to have some killer launch games to make the year more fun. I get why they delayed it. Just hope Nintendo put enough effort in making it feel like a true leap forward.
@Deadlyblack I have done the same except I don't have a base PS5. For consoles I have been playing more PS2 and PS3 lately more than anything. That being said if I do buy a PS5 it will probably be a pro. My gaming PC with Steam and GOG I have plenty of games to play
It'll do ok I think, if it's similar to PS4/PS4 pro. The PS4 pro was just a machine for the more dedicated/well off, it never eclipsed the base model.
I feel like PS5 was held back for a while by having to have PS4 versions of games. That is no longer the case but I still think that we have not seen the full capability of PS5, which is why I will not be getting PS5 Pro (I did upgrade to PS4 Pro in the past).
It all comes down to the software, right? I mean look at Playstation Meeting 2016, they announced the hardware (PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro) and presented a bunch of games to show off the Pro (Spider-Man, Horizon Zero Dawn, Days Gone and a load of 3rd party games).
Removed - unconstructive feedback
I really don't think the leaked specs impressed and I really don't think "moar power" is what the ninth "we can't keep making AAA games and pay the bills at the same time" generation needs night now as the industry pivots to cutting costs and thinking smaller. It really is a product meant for a different time. Especially when they're likely to charge in the extreme for it.
I say that as a customer of the expensive psvr2 and the criminally overpriced and under featured Edge controller. It just doesn't seem worth the money for what it is and how little it'll be used by devs. If they price it surprisingly low that's another story but I'm expecting $650-750. If it does something amazing for VR I'm in though. But that's unlikely.
@Andy22385
Hey that's exciting! I haven't played it (really liked the first one) but now it is definitely on my radar. I think it's on their Extra service right?
@ShogunRok to be fair consoles have not kept up with inflation just like every other industry. The makers have done their best to keep the base console prices attainable. Despite them taking a loss with a lesser machine compared to previous more bespoke SOCs in older generations. Gaming is an expensive hobby and many forget hobbies cost money. As long as the Sony sells the base console still all will be well. The pro is just extra for those that want the best for their high end 4K displays. I expect at least 600$ like the original PS3 which was worth it at the time for how robust it was.
The biggest issue I feel for the negativity is the current owners of PS5 feel they haven't got the value out of it and another console is already coming out which will out date their purchase, thing is tech moves forward and it will have been 4 years... Times move on, I didn't buy a PS5 yet so I'm looking forward to the Pro!
I literally have been saving for the pro since the day I picked up my launch day ps5 and have my grand sitting here waiting. See you launch day
I just don't think the PS5 Pro will provide any valuable benefits, as the games being produced currently are not even challenging the base machine. Given the time it takes to develop games and the desire to make the games playable by as many gamers as possible, it seems very unlikely that many developers will target the capabilities of the PS5 Pro solely. Any few that do will also be eyeing the PS6 market which we are told is only a couple of years away. I did have a PS4 Pro as it did provide discernable benefits but I think this time around I will just keep saving for a day one PS6.
@kyleforrester87 I just wished they wrote PRO in red on the tube..😆
I would only get one if my current system craps out.
You know this isn't intended to be a mainstream product...right ? The clue is in the title. Sony know it's a niche product but I personally think options are a good thing. Sony would be delighted if your poll turned out to be correct because it suggests this generations Pro would be more successful than the PS4 Pro but then again we all know polls are not exactly reliable. The truth is nobody especially Sony was expecting 80% of PS5 users to immediately rush out and buy a PS5 pro. If my PS5 breaks I would almost certainly get a Pro if it's not prohibitively expensive as why not.
It's already been many many years since the PS5 launched and it's not exactly cutting edge and new tech is always nice but this generations Pro certainly won't be a day one purchase for me as it doesn't offer me anything I desperately need.
I'm not at all surprised with the ps5 pro on its way,computer tech moves forward quickly.itll be a very nice extra option for gamers who want more power etc etc,I personally think it'll sell alright just like the ps4 pro did,just waiting to hear the official specs from Sony themselves but it certainly sds interesting if the rumoured specs are true,I shall get one certainly ,if these specs are correct .
I've said before - PS4 Pro had a purpose to give something to gamers who'd upgraded to a 4K TV. Even those who hadn't bothered upgrading their telly benefitted from reduced jaggies, better performance and slightly quicker load times (SATA 3 interface was on board instead of the old SATA 2 - bung a decent SSD in the HDD slot and you really were laughing!)
Nothing that I've seen on my PS5 has blown my socks off with most of it looking like it was designed as a PS4 game. Probably because most of it was.
But here's the kicker - like the PS4 Pro, you had enhanced versions of games that also had to run on the base PS4. The Pro could have been so much more had it been freed from the shackles of the base unit but at the end of the day, it's the supercharged PS4.
In a similar way, the PS5 Pro will suffer from the same problem. Only the PS6 can free us from the base PS5 problems so I say roll on the PS6. Hopefully someone who has been to SpecSavers might design the case this time...
@HonestHick
Well you never know there is zero mentioned from Nintendo after June 24.
So we might even get some very good Switch games if Switch 2 doesn’t make an appearance.
The new 3d Mario open world platform game could hit Switch. Let’s not forget the last 2 Nintendo generation consoles have had Zelda release on old and new consoles.
And with 140 million Switch consoles out there it would be hard for a new Mario platform game to miss out on those software sales.
@OldGamer999 all very good points. I’m hopeful for something out of Nintendo. I know they will have a good lineup to launch Switch 2 tho. But for the end of the year i hope they have a good or two that will give me a farewell to the Switch. There’s next to nothing for me on PS5 this year, and who knows what I’ll get on Xbox. Been an odd generation so far.
PS5 PRO will be a Day 1 Purchase for Me!
But I Also Managed to get the Launch PS5 on Day 1, so I think a lot of people taking the Poll weren't as lucky, with some maybe only getting a PS5 Recently, so I can see it from their perspective, in that it feels like a PS5 PRO is coming Market too quickly, and that's not even factoring in that more Games have been Cross Gen going from the PS4 to the PS5 than Any other Generation in History, so it only makes them lock down harder on that Prospective.
But those same people need to at least consider, that Sony Actually waited a Full Extra Year Longer at 4 Years, to Release the PS5 PRO version, Versus only 3 Years after the Base PS4 Launch, for the PS4 PRO to come out, so it makes a lot more Sense for People like myself, who've actually had the Base PS5 since or close to Launch Day, to want to upgrade and buy one.
Gaming is supposed to be about having Fun, So what I don't understand is all the Negativity about the Release or even Existence of a PS5 PRO Model?
I mean it doesn't Hinder anything for the Base PS5 Games in any way, and anyone thinking it does, only needs to look at the effect of the Last Gen PS4 PRO to Base PS4 Games, to see that it didn't change the Quality of the Games for the Base PS4 in any way.
It should be Simple for Everyone, If you don't like it, Don't buy it, but please don't be a Hater for those of us that are pumped up and excited about getting one.
Happy Gaming ✌!
If it's only about increasing resolution, high chance I'll pass. I need 60 FPS, I already get it in almost all games, with resolutions upscaled to 4K (which look no different to me from native 4K).
Only got my OG PS5 in December so not interested, just got an OLEDSteam Deck too, next for me will be the new Switch. PS5 is fine as it is for me. Performs well enough, and a Pro model ain’t going to be cheap.
@HonestHick
Well Xbox could have a good end of year if Avowed and Indy are top notch, but with all developers at the minute you never know what you might get at the end of the day.
Yes the PS5 is very quiet for me this year and I thought last year was bad for me on PS5.
I fancy Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid prime 2 remasters for 2024, let’s see what happens,
Maybe even twilight princess as I fancy that game at the minute.
@Aggirivator -(Question): "There's already dissatisfaction in the Xbox world about having to develop for Series X and Series S...is PS5 going down that same road?"
(ANSWER): Yeah I've seen other people trying to throw that monkey wrench into the Discussions, But It's simply not the Same with the PS5 to PS5 PRO.
I suspect Development will be pretty much the same way it was with Last GEN's PS4 to PS4 PRO, with the exception of the addition of PSSR Machine Learning in this GEN's PS5 PRO Model, which should make a lot of things even easier to achieve.
Developers typically work to Optimize the Weakest Console First to get the most out of it, then move on to the more Powerful Console to Upgrade, but the Difference in Hardware with "Series S" versus "Series X" has to do with them having "Less Parity" than Sony's Machines will have, so it takes MORE EFFORT from Developers to Upgrade and Optimize the Game going from the much weaker "S Model" to the "X Model", so just as an example, the "Series S has its Hardware Limited to only 10GB RAM" vs. a Massive "16GB RAM in Series X", and there other differences, too many to list, but you get the idea.
Where as the PS5 and PS5 PRO are "Closer in Parity" than the "S" is to "X" Model, just as an example PS5 and PS5 PRO Both have the SAME amount of 16GB RAM, the only difference being the PRO's RAM is Faster, same as with the PRO having the SAME CPU, it's just overclocked 10%, but you get the Idea, so the Developers will take the Already Optimized Base PS5 Games, and then simply Punch them up with the Faster Upgraded CPU,GPU, and RAM Hardware that's available in the PS5 PRO. So Simply Conversion with No major Development Fragmentation.
I'm Excited, and so I'm Definitely going to Buy the PS5 PRO Day 1, just like I bought the PS4 PRO Day 1!
Happy Gaming ✌!
@OldGamer999 Mario Galaxy and Zelda Wind Waker would be my switch happy place. I still Indiana Jones and Avowed will be good games. Not system sellers, but solid fun would be my guess. PS5 cancelled the game i wanted in Last of Us online. So i don’t know what to be excited for with PS now. Guess I’ll have to wait for them to announce what’s coming.
@HonestHick
Yes both Nintendo and Sony need to ramp up a bit from their own studios, there is nothing like their big AAA single player games.
Xbox for me used to have a good few as well, Halo and gears of war for definite.
Even Halo Infinite I really enjoyed campaign wise.
They just didn’t give enough for over six years work and a new generation console and also spread 343 far to thinly on the project. Microsoft need a big slap for that 😂
@OldGamer999 Agreed! I like Halo infinite actually. The gameplay was really solid and if not for going months on end with no content added i think it would have done much better. It’s the only reason i stopped playing online was there was no new maps coming. Yeah Sony and Nintendo will hit some big ones next year. I have no doubt about it. I am just a little tired of Sony leaning so hard on Marvel games.
@UnlimitedSevens I'm not sure about extra but it was a free monthly game a couple of months ago
@Ultrasmiles and the will of scalpers vs Sony's ability to deter them. I think they all talk a big game but do the bare minimum to stop it.
I think it will sell better than expected.
As soon as people see side by side comparisons it’ll fly off the shelves.
The PS4Pro was mainly for people upgrading to a 4K TV. Now everyone has 4K TVs. So now everyone is a potential buyer, when we all can chose NOT having to chose between Fidelity and Performance with added RT features on top.
It will sell better than the PS4Pro and I think people underestimate the impact of more RT features.
