This should come as no surprise, but Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has launched straight to the top of the UK's physical chart. Square Enix's sequel is one of 2024's biggest releases and had a huge amount of pre-launch hype, so we'd expect nothing less. It forces EA Sports FC 24 into second place, and Hogwarts Legacy also slips one position into third.
One game that hasn't moved, though, is Helldivers 2. Sony's co-op shooter remains in fourth for a second week, despite the heavy competition. Looking further down, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has slipped into eighth, while Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is hanging around at number nine. In at number 10 is none other than Grand Theft Auto V.
Here's the latest top 10 in full (physical sales only).
UK Sales Charts: Week Ending 2nd March, 2024
- Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
- EA Sports FC 24
- Hogwarts Legacy
- Helldivers 2
- Mario vs. Donkey Kong
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
- Marvel's Spider-Man 2
- Grand Theft Auto V

@Zenos This is a ban-worthy comment.
I agree, one of the best games I've ever played so far, you seem to like it less than most @shogunRok
Yeah it's pretty phenomenal. A big improvement from Remake and I loved that. Synergy system is so so good
@djhegzy I just don't like comparing one part of a currently unfinished three-game saga to an all-time classic RPG that changed the industry as we know it.
I really like Remake and Rebirth, but FF7 is a genuine masterpiece. I guarantee this trilogy won't have anywhere near the impact as the original, nor will it be remembered so fondly.
(I am looking forward to part 3, mind.)
Some legit good games doing well these days. It's nice to see
@Zenos Hey, fair enough — it is nice to see people enjoying it so much.
Curious how Rebirth sales compared to Remake. The latter launched during the height of the pandemic but digital sales have drastically increased since 2020.
I played the original FF7 the first time in 2016 and thought it was just alright, mainly because of how it aged gameplay-wise
I enjoyed Remake + Rebirth way more than the original (havent beaten Rebirth yet though) and I'm sure people who have no nostalgia for the original will probably enjoy Remake + Rebirth + the third game way more than the original
I played both, I think if the third installation delivers as well as the second has then I'd have no problems putting this version over the original, and I played the original in that sweet spot as a kid just learning about adult themes. Rebirth is a marvel.
Props to Square Enix. Great launch.
Even though I prefer FFXVI combat and story, FFVII Rebirth is a highlight this early year. And Im only 8 hours in at the beginning of chapter 4.
Honestly Rebirth is such a strong early GOTY contender
@ShogunRok IMHO FF7 isn’t even top 5 best FFs when entries like 9 exist.
I vastly prefer remake and rebirth over og 7 too.
7 also doesn’t hit as hard if you didn’t grow up with it unlike a lot of the other entries.
@darkswabber This is me right now:
@ShogunRok We all know that no one agrees which Final Fantasy is best, let alone which ones would constitute a reasonable top 10 list. Final Fantasy is a series that doesn’t want you to be reasonable. It’s impossible. There’s probably someone out there that thinks Final Fantasy II is the best of the bunch. They’re probably wrong, but so am I to someone else. Final Fantasy is the most subjective franchise ever to occur to gaming.
@ShogunRok the skinner meme is on point hahah.
But I am seriously surprised you scored FF16 and P3R higher than Rebirth. I am only on chapter 5 but so far this is clearly the best experience out of the three. I mean, they are all good games and there is no accounting for taste but this is the richer, grandest and most ambitious game out of the three. I am constantly waiting for Rebirth to terribly disappoint me since I am really loving it hahaha
@Nei For me, both Remake and Rebirth just have pacing problems and I don't really like some of the new story additions. I'm someone who adores FF7 and I love how the remakes flesh out that world, but a lot of the new stuff, like the new characters, rub me the wrong way a little.
Of course FF16 has pacing problems as well! But for me, that game's highs are so ridiculously high that its flaws get left behind more than they do in Remake / Rebirth.
P3R, meanwhile... I think that's just an immaculate remake of a game that already has an incredible gameplay loop. There's a supreme level of polish to Persona that I just don't think exists in the FF7 remakes.
I do really like Remake and Rebirth overall, and I can totally understand why others like them even more, but for me, there's an inconsistency to both games that keeps them from being truly great.
I'm hoping that the third game rounds things off nicely. I do think that if Square Enix gets the finale right, then it could retroactively make Remake and Rebirth better. As one complete trilogy, it could be amazing.
As long as we don't have the data for both physical and digital sales, these tables are meaningless
@ShogunRok Just for the sake of conversation, (your reviews of these and more games were very informative and useful to limit my crazy JRPG spending):
Pacing problems aside, FF16 really lacks a third wind in terms of gameplay.
P3R, on the other hand, is a very subdued and understated "homework" remake that lacks the FF7 or RE remakes' impact, re-imagination and ambition. Consider Gekkoukan High in P3 and P3R, Kalm in FF7, and Rebirth afterwards—not exactly the same level of work 😅 the game maintains the same size as the original, doesn't truly utilize the power of the current generation, and doesn't even include all that might be included—the female MP and the answer are both missing.
And while these two games kind of tunneled me in different ways, FF Rebirth is the funniest game to play and the least dictatorial when it comes to telling me what to do and when to do it.
I have one hour tonight and I can do some Shinra Towers, unwind, do some hunting in Rebirth in a way that doesn't function well in the other two games. It’s just my taste though.
@Nei I do agree that Remake / Rebirth are ambitious games. When you look at the sheer amount of stuff that you can do in Rebirth, it's impressive. Buuuut, there's a part of me that would rather just have more traditional Final Fantasy over minigames and side quests. That's very much my own taste, though!
Ambition is great to have, but I don't think everything Remake / Rebirth does is especially good. To me, they're both bloated. Not to a terrible degree, but enough to make me want to skip things and get on with the story.
P3R is very much a straight remake, like you say. Definitely not the same level of ambition (or budget!), but then I think Persona 3 already has an amazing gameplay loop and Reload didn't have to change much to begin with.
And to be honest, that kind of makes me think Remake / Rebirth should have just been straight remakes as well. I think I would have preferred that. But then we wouldn't be having conversations like this. A straight FF7 remake would probably divide less opinion, but it arguably wouldn't be as interesting.
I think these comments just show how torn I am on Remake / Rebirth! There are so many things I love about the games but that just makes the flaws frustrate me even more.
As for FF16, I really want to replay it before the next DLC and see whether my view has changed at all. Especially after playing Rebirth.
