Square Enix's ever-popular MMO, Final Fantasy XIV, is currently experiencing a sustained DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) assault. The publisher/developer has warned its millions of invested players to expect login and connection issues until they are successfully repelled.
In a blog post, Squeenix revealed that the attack began around 6 a.m. on 6th May and appears to be ongoing as of this writing. Players may experience difficulty logging in, sending/accessing data, or randomly becoming disconnected from Japanese, North American, European, or Oceaniac servers.
Over on the FFXIV subreddit, the community is doing what it can to pass the time until they can get back in. They regale each other with tales of who lost the most progress when the connection cut out (this guy, probably), and morale seems reasonably high for now. It remains to be seen how long the outages will last, but we imagine Yoshi-P is on the case.
