While we generally liked Street Fighter 6’s soundtrack, there’s no denying it lacked the earworms of its predecessors. Fortunately, Capcom continues to be on the pulse of players, as tomorrow’s big update – which will plot the return of Akuma as well as implement some major balance tweaks – will introduce a brand-new feature: a soundtrack selector.
You’ll be able to use in-game currency like Drive Tickets or premium currency such as Fighter Coins to purchase songs from the series’ history, and you’ll then be able to apply that music to different stages. In other words, you’ll be able to battle to Street Fighter 2’s iconic background music – or any of your other favourites from the franchise’s history.
This is a neat little addition as far as we’re concerned, and we can’t wait to play around with all the new music when the update drops from 22nd May. You can get a taste of some of the tunes available in the trailer embedded above.

No offense to Akuma but I think I might be more excited for this feature than the character.😄
I actually liked SF6's music for the most part too but there are a few themes that didn't click for me like Ryu and Chun Li's and considering Ryu is one of my mains this is very good news indeed!
At least now I don't have to buy any of the fighter passes to get the songs, cos for me they were the only thing of worth to me.
I don't mind the music for 6, it fits the hip hop summer vibe that the game's going for but that SF2 soundtrack is iconic for a reason.
And again! For every thing SF6 does incredibly well, they have to add some stupid microtransactions... I love this game but really, they have to sort out these things by making most of what is mtx as unlockables.
I may have to pick this game up again now my man Akuma is here and i can have all the classic tracks back. Am i right in thinking that characters no longer have their own stages either?
@Kidfunkadelic83
Kind of yes and no? There are some stages in the game that I'd consider a characters stage and others that are more not character specific. The DLC stages in particular seem to be more geared towards characters though such as Akuma getting his usual dark cave looking stage.
Hope that somewhat helps.
Worst part of the game, aside from the putrid way DLC has been handled, is easily the soundtrack. And, of course, you have to pay to get the music worth a damn. It really is amazing how Capcom can get DLC right with Resident Evil but fails on every level concerning that with SF 6.
@Korgon yeah i remember seeing some stages that i thought suited certain characters but they wasnt assigned to battling said character. I always liked the music from Alpha 3 the most. Bisons stage fighting in the long grass was awsome 👌👌👌
12 months since release and still loving SF6!
SF6 music was fine for me as it was but I might have to listen in on the classic themes since they are here.
SF3 has the best soundtrack. One of the best of all time to be honest.
It's funny as I remember the Capcom Generations games I had on Saturn included nice remixes right there on the disc. Also, I wish Streets of Rage 4 did something like this, the retro soundtrack option was so limited. Classic soundtracks and the ability to apply them flexibly is always a nice option.
Is all of this music available on Spotify?
While this is a cool feature which i'm probably gonna grab some classic ost like Bees..oops Beats In My Head (Elena stage 3rd Strike), Ryu / Ken / Guile SF II theme, and Sakura SF Alpha 2 theme, i will stick mostly with SF 6 ost.
I'm probably the only few who really enjoyed SF 6 ost. I love Ed, Ryu, Ken, Luke, Jamie, Blanka, AKI, Chun, Kim, Cammy, Manon, Marisa, and Dhalsim theme. And the stages theme are great too, especially Genbu Temple, Fete Foraine, Carrier Byron Taylor, and Dhalsimer Temple.
I can’t believe how they butchered guile’s theme. They should have kept the same but modern, oh well these classic ones will do.
