Smash hit manga-turned-anime Kaiju No. 8, one of the most successful series on the planet right now, is inevitably getting a game – but currently confirmed platforms only include PC and mobile. The adaptation, set to be developed and published by Akatsuki Games, will be free-to-play with in-game (presumably gacha) microtransactions.
There’s no word on what the gameplay will be like, but the source material sees an elite group of trained warriors facing off against kaiju, who frequently attack Tokyo. The protagonist, Kafka Hibino, starts out as a cleaner, responsible for cleansing the city of the fallen kaiju remains. However, he later develops kaiju powers of his own, making him both a target and a priceless ally.
The manga series got its start in 2020, and has amassed 12 volumes at the time of typing. The anime, meanwhile, first aired in April of this year, and has gone on to become a colossal success, spawning a Uniqlo clothing line and much more. There’s no release date attached to then game just yet, but we’d expect more to be announced over the course of the year.

Give me a localization of Tokyo Revengers game first then we can talk Kaiju#8
I am absolutely obsessed with this series, so might give this a try if it gets decent reviews.
Can we not just get an fully fledged RPG like the One Piece games? We tend to either get brawlers or gatchas. I find the lack of variety disappointing. Hoped we’d turned a new leaf after One Piece RPG and Sandland.
@jolteon23 It's so good!
I'm hooked on the anime.
Watched the latest episode last night. The intro and outro tunes are in my head all morning.
Just coz I like the anime, don't mean I'd like the game. I've not really gotten into any free to play games based on an anime. So I doubt I'd like this. If it was buy to play and RPG, I'd be interested. But I'd be more interested in seeing demon slayer as an RPG.
A gacha? How disappointing. This could be an amazing videogame. Imagine 100 players being dropped into a city, versus a giant Kaiju along with smaller enemies that it can summon. A game like that would be ripe for online success. It's basically battle Royale, but it's PVE.
Well that's it, I'm officially old.
I'd like to say I am (was) pretty big into anime, but I've honestly never heard of this one until now, lol. Then again I've stopped trying to follow new releases years ago, so it's not all to surprising it'd happen eventually.
Anyhow, a shame to hear it's a F2P gacha game. Sounds like it'd be cool as a proper RPG, action game, or some such
I definitely recommend the anime, even if you are not into them. Funny, great action, and fantastic OP and ED music.
Crossing my fingers it's not an arena fighter and instead plays more like monster hunter/freedom wars, as you hunt down kaijus as different characters or even as your own.
Edit: sceatch that, it seems to be a mobile release, so my expectattions are lower than before lol
This series is pretty amazing. Reminds me of attack on titan but with kaiju. Not sure if a gacha system will work for this seeing as they all wear the same uniforms. The appeal of gacha is that there is diversity in the characters looks and skills.
If this game doesn't feature destructible environments its not going to be worth it to me.
Call me when the series gets a console game instead.
