Beyond Good & Evil 2 remains in development at Ubisoft, and that's just about all the French publisher has to say on the matter. On the eve of the original game's 20th anniversary re-release, the series' official Twitter account posted a thread all about the PS5, PS4 remaster and said: "Yes, Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still in development, and we cannot wait for you to discover more about Jade's past in the 20th Anniversary Edition!"
The update follows on from news that the Beyond Good & Evil: 20th Anniversary Edition will contain an all-new treasure hunt mission that serves as a narrative link between the first game and its in-development follow-up. It's bundled in with new Trophies, remastered visuals that support 60 frames-per-second at a 4K resolution, and new quality-of-life features like cross-save and the option to skip cutscenes. The digital version is out tomorrow and a phsyical edition is available via Limited Run Games, with pre-orders opening on 12th July 2024.
Beyond Good & Evil 2 has supposedly been in some form of development for well over a decade now, with our archives stretching back as far as 2010. In the many years since, there have been glimpses of the title here and there, with the odd trailer or screenshot, but it's never felt like a concrete project that's even close to completion. Ubisoft now assures fans the follow-up is still in development, but then it's been saying that for more than 10 years. At least the original game has the chance to shine once more on modern platforms.

Technically, Deep Down is still in development too
Well at least they are still acknowledging it, unlike say a bioshock 4 where I haven't heard anything in years and years.
@pyrrhic_victory Technically it's not been cancelled. It's in development at Schrödinger Studios until we hear anything (not likely).
It's funny how BG&E is celebrating 20 years and in in a few years time BG&E2 will be 20 years when it first started development.
I'll be on my deathbed by the time Beyond Good and Evil 2 even gets a release window.
My assumption is they've rebooted it with a structure and more narrative focus like the first game.
Good to hear they haven't forgotten about it, but I'm not sure how much I believe this. Maybe when there is a release date it will feel like a real game, so let's say another 10 years
😂 it's in development, how has it developed then, written a script yet?
After I heard what you made it I could not care less if I wanted.
This game is basically vaporware
ubisoft's stock price is so bad, that it is heistant to announce the cancellation of the project 😂
Is the longest a game has been in development hell?
@NathanKang yup. it stole the crown from duke nukem forever.
They making it as quintuple A game, that's why it's taking so long, guys.
Wasn't the original a complete flop? I am not sure there is even an audience for a sequel that would warrant any development, not to mention such a long development cycle.
Gaiz, I'm having a hard time deciding. Should I preorder BG&E2 or Deep Down first?
Well I hope it turns out better than the trailer they showed years ago. I swear as much as the next person but the foul mouthed monkey was just obnoxious and cringe.
Yeah, yeah, keep talkin'.
This game is as much ''alive'' as Rayman or Immortals...
I think we’ll see a return to zork and an Ultima entry before the sequel comes out.
It should launch around the same time as StarCraft: Ghost.
Anyone wants to guess which one between this game and Star Citizen that will release first? 🤣
coming to the PS9...Maybe.
World’s first AAAAA game
Technically Agent was still in development up until just the last couple of years (can't remember when exactly but I remember it wasn't that long ago haha)
Wither way I'm not that bothered, was the game good for its time? Yea.
Is it worth waiting this long for a sequel? Probably not.
The problem is games are good because of the right time and the right place and we've moved on.
So unless it does come and it blows everything out the water as did balders gate did, then it probably isn't worth the effort.
I mean look at shenmue, those first 2 games were just epics for the time, I still enjoy every year sitting through those games but the 3rd game, I enjoyed but its a game which should of come not long after 2.
Look at beneath a steel sky , what an epic point and click game from back in the 90s such amazing story telling. But did we need them to make a follow up to it in 3d, years later? No not really, id of much rather them just remaster the original and leave it alone.
Sequels should be the next game on from it within a few years.
Not 10 plus years.
I'll believe it when I can play it.
What was it like 10 years ago when they showed that trailer? Sure feels like it. All i remember was the cursing and it felt forced like they were trying to look edgy.
I'm sure it'll be out just in time for the release of the Dreamcast 2...
It's modern Ubisoft why would anyone want it anyway? It would be awful plus for me personally that first trailer for the sequel was Uber cringe
*insert Dr. Evil saying "right" GIF
Don't give me hope...
@NEStalgia Whats the other one with the little girl and a guy Ina spacesuit for PS5.
Judging by Skull and bones' reception after a millions years of dev hell, I'm not sure anyone is confident this is a good thing.
@Truegamer79 I'm pretty sure the trailer from E3 2017 was a desperate marketing stunt to avoid the Vivendi hostile takeover attempt. It was a nasty time for Ubisoft, so for once, I wouldn't hold it against them and completely ignore the original trailer.
@Flaming_Kaiser LOL I forgot about that one. Which is fine, because so did the devs....
Probably be a total screw up like Skull & Bones
@NEStalgia I think it will be added to the pile of vapor ware, along with Agent PS3, Deep Down PS4. 😢
"with our archives stretching back as far as 2010". Thanks. I will still affirm that it was announced in '08, but this sentence is accurate.
