While the hype for Elden Ring's incredibly vast expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, is fast approaching a fever pitch, the vast majority of players will be unable to enter the eagerly-anticipated DLC. One of the base game's tougher boss encounters, Mohg, Lord of Blood, must be defeated to access the Shadow Lands, which Trophy and Steam achievement data suggest not many have managed.
The situation is getting so dire that even Elden Ring publisher Bandai Namco has put out a PSA, reminding players that they are going to need to put in some work to see what fresh hell FromSoftware has dreamed up this time. Streamer Cohh Carnage highlighted the situation on Steam, where just 37.8% (out of a potential 11 million players on the platform alone) of Tarnished have managed to mash Mohg. The situation looks slightly better on PlayStation trackers like PSN Profiles, which sits at a respectable 54.7%. However, as the service is opt-in and used by the most dedicated Trophy Hunters, it's reasonable to assume that this number is heavily skewed by the hardcore. In fact, accounting for all PS5 and PS4 players, as little as 34.7% have beaten the bloody baddie.
Thankfully, for those of you struggling, we've put together guides on both How to Reach Mohgwyn's Palace and How to Beat Mogh, Lord of Blood. You'll still need to dust the cobwebs off, of course, and git gud enough to beat the DLC-blocking boss. Consider yourself warned, however: Shadow of the Erdtree launches on 21st June, so you have less than two weeks to start training.
Did you beat Mohg, Lord of Blood yet? Are you prepared to go on another dark quest in Shadow of the Erdtree? Pray for muscle memory to return in the comments section below.

I remember fighting that guy Centuries ago ran into him by accident lol.
Guess I should start Elden Ring.
Judging by the pic I think I beat that guy. Was he in a bloody casket at the end of a long bloody walkway? There are a couple of guys with similar names in the game. Oh and by beat I mean I probably summoned in another player, or 2, and watched them do most of the work.
So are they really selling a DLC that a lot of people may buy but won’t be able to even start it? Does the Steam refund policy cover dlc and would Sony do something similar? I’m passing on it b/c my kid is a PC gamer now so I’m not spending $40 for the PS5 version just for myself. Maybe I’ll watch the kid play a bit.
So a bunch of people bought Shadow of the Erdtree for the new content only to get NIHIL!
I cheesed him by doing the glitch that gets you around the main entrance and prevents him from moving no matter how many times you hit him.
I was fairly under-leveled, so it took a while, but it was great for leveling up further.
Sorry, not sorry.
I wonder how many people bought the dlc without knowing you gotta beat this boss first in order to play it
I didn’t find this guy too bad, although the Bloodhound Fang made every boss mincemeat after a few goes. Also he’s voiced by Con O’Neill which is pretty cool.
Easiest way to beat the boss is to call for help from multiplayer. It's also pretty fun!
I’ve actually not beaten him yet either, or even been to his area, but I have got all 3 endings. I was saving a bunch of content for when the DLC drops so I can finish them up then to get back up to speed.
I platinumed elden ring. I'm not the most skilled gamer but I know how the souls games work (I should as I've played them all and then some) but I'm going to purchase this and I'm going to start right from the very start of the whole thing which took me the best part of a year to 100%. Won't take me that long to finish i hope but it's going to be one hell of a playthrough.
I started it when I was playing Tactics Ogre so I dropped it to pay attention to that and never got back to it. Seems incredible. I'll get to it some day
To fkn hard…!…that’s why!
Probably my favourite boss in the game. Love the setting, voice-acting, and chaos of the fight in the final phase.
@rjejr The Lord of Blood variant is in the Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum, one of the "river" locations. Looks a little like the acropolis. You have to traverse the passages of a barely lit mausoleum to reach it.
@rjejr
Been a long time since i played and my memory is a bit hazy on this game but i think you may have done the other similar one.
The other similar one is deep underground the capital city i think, and it may be you have done this one. He is in a large underground tomb/mausoleum.
The one you need to defeat according to the pic here is in a separate area only accessed by teleporting (2 methods), the whole area has a red glow, he is located inside a greek looking building which has no roof with stars above and a cocoon in it which has a large withered arm sticking out.
@CrashBandicoat Well, they didn't release this DLC on PS4, so comparison would be not exactly right.
I'd say I've never played any of the Souls' games DLCs, despite having them all.
I didn't even beat Mohg. though I've finished Elden Ring.
@chesheer Why wouldn't that comparison be "right"? HFW's dlc also skipped PS4, so...
I'm set. Bring on the DLC.
@breakneck "Also, wouldn't it have been easier to switch on a PS4/5 and check the trophy percentage over there for a more accurate look at the boss completion?"
Shardbearer Mogh trophy: 34.7% of players have it. So the article is right (35%). I guess they did check the PS trophylist.
I’m stuck on Commander Niall. I used to be good til I took an arrow to the knee… lol. Im nowhere near as good as I was two years ago when I became Elden Lord and it’s a problem. Lol.
@ChrisDeku There are 6 confirmed endings, but you only need three for the platinum trophy
@Melee_Ace 🤣 Best comment!
@rjejr I think all the videos have been pretty apparent that you need to have beat this one boss before you can access it... it's all about Marika and Miquella, (who was just a sleeping egg in the base game.) and Mohg is the gatekeeper of the sleeping prince.
I think you've got the right guy though- contrary to everyone else's opinion... I'm sure he's the only Mog/Mohg that's close to a river of blood.
@B0udoir I'd say the easiest way is to find his shackle. Use it mid fight and he gets bound to the floor for long enough that you can smash his health down pretty low. Once he's up, use it again, and he's almost dead, before he's even gone into phase 2.
@LikelySatan I have to (/want to) play Sekiro first. EEK!
@yohn777 No, I meant that Horizon's DLC didn't get released on PS4.
Wait, is Elder Ring's DLC also not coming to PS4?
I got confused.
@breakneck
@Mythologue @Rich33 @J2theEzzo
Thanks everyone. The fact that no one seems to be 100% sure just goes to my point. What if you buy the DLC thinking you already beat the boss, but you beat the other similar one instead? I've had the conversation w/ my kid, who knows the game pretty well having beaten in on both PS5 at release and more recently on PC, and even they're not sure which of those I beat. I really don't recall any type of mausoleum though, and while I do recall transporting once I don't recall transporting twice. Maybe I'll boot up the ole save file later and my kid and I can try to figure it out. I'm sure they'd be willing to beat it for me if I haven't already. Not that I'm getting the dlc anyway, once was enough. 😁
@rjejr
No probs
May even be worth looking at the odd youtube video - the area the correct one is in is quite memorable - its the same area as one of the best xp farms in the post/late game where you can use wave of gold to kill a load of the high xp low health frog like things that stand around until yiu attack.
Not that I planned on buying it....but I haven't got far enough it would seem anyway lol
I probably got side tracked by another game and never returned...although plan to one day....got alot of games in that zone
@chesheer I was remembering that the physical copies of Shadow of the Erdtree are only for PS5/Xbox Series, my mistake.
I'm still not sure why the two games can't be compared, the percentages of people who have corresponding trophies for Burning Shores would still give a decent idea of how many people reached the endgame.
@Rich33 Definitely remember frog farming, killed way too any of those things while they were just laying there minding their own business along that fallen column. I do recall making it to the end of there thru the red swamp and having a big boss battle in a temple. My kid said they'd check out my save file w/ me later to see what's what. They said it's definitely the mausoleum b/c it has something to do w/ the story arc in the dlc. 19 yr PC game master race know-it-all. 😂
@yohn777 Well, PSNProfiles says that 30% of PS4 players and 38% of PS5 players got Platinum in Forbidden West, i.e. not only completed the game, but did almost everything (except NG+ and Ultra Hard).
So those aren't rookie numbers compared to Elden Ring. That's a lot.
@themightyant lucky you. Sekiro is amazing.
Because the game blew chunks....NOT 1 of my friends bought or played this thing.....
Way to many games being given top reviews and their bullmanure games lately....
Only PC players play it, as they can mod the crap out of it....
@rjejr
Lol
Sounds right to me.
Frog farming - say that to most people and they will give you a nasty look - but say it to someone who has played elden ring and they smile, praise the devs for not patching it out, and mumble something about fingers and holes...
