Some time ago, not too long after Phantom Blade Zero was first announced, we pondered whether the game was... well, a real game. In some ways, the project almost looked too good to be true, but as promised in its latest trailer, a playable demo build is actually on show at Summer Game Fest.
Gameplay footage from that demo is now starting to appear online, and quite frankly, the action RPG looks fantastic. It's really the combat system that catches the eye here: it's an insane blend of Sekiro-esque parrying, crazy combos, and ridiculous animation work.
You can find eight minutes of footage on Chinese video-sharing site bilibili through this link. The quality isn't great β it appears to be taken from a livestream β but you can still see how impressively crafted the game is.
There's also an on-stage presentation from IGN, which we've embedded below. This particular demo seems to focus on tutorial battles, before showing off some exploration and even boss combat a bit further in. Again, it looks superb.
Phantom Blade Zero doesn't have a release window yet, but it will be showing up at every major gaming event that's yet to take place this year, including Gamescom, ChinaJoy, and Tokyo Game Show. We can't wait to see more.

Definitely has some rough edges to smooth out movement and traversal, but so far this looks insane. And the devs said they're focusing more on combo driven fighting over Souls like attacking and blocking, which is all I needed to hear.
I am interested in this game with all its Wuxian glory!
Man, it looks really fantastic. Like Stellar Blade on steroids. π Definitely one to try the demo on though because it looks like it could be difficult for those of us who are mediocre at parry mechanics.
Combat feels pretty similar to DMC or Ninja Gaiden with all the stylish combos, fast pace movement, and multiple weapons and it looks awesome.
With DMC and Ninja Gaiden still M.I.A for their next game, i think this game can fill the hole that left by both games and also could be a big name in action hack & slash genre if the marketing done right.
The movement and flow of the combos is very Ninja Gaiden so I'm SOLD. It's a chinese developer so the development could last forever buy the fact they are in a tour means they are close, not this year obviously.
It actually looks really bad. The animations are extremely janky. No weight to attacks either. I'm not sure why people are comparing it to Ninja Gaiden as Ninja Gaiden's animations are fluid and the attacks have weight to them.
Iβm very intrigued and will be keeping an eye on this for sure!
They should release the demo. I wanna try it out.
Combo driven action doesnβt appeal to me. I like the deliberate and non-flashy style of other action RPGS.
Asia keeping the action/soulsborne scene alive and kicking. I supported Korean devs Lies of P & Stellar blade day 1, unless anything goes wrong here I'll support these Chinese devs with Wukong & this day 1. Then Japan of course with elden ring dlc. West has lost interest in making these games but they're my favorite.
Looks a little rough around the edges, but definitely one to watch out for.
Of course there's people talking nonsense about the combat just like with Stellar Blade but this definitely looks promising and the combat definitely looks good.
This looks incredible!
Looks amazing! I remember there's a mobile game called Phantom Blade Executioners, I don't know if it's worth playing for or not just to prepare for this game.
Love the wall run during that boss fight they demoed, it looks superb. Chinese AAA renaissance era ππ»
Looks like dark sekiro 4
@gigiard Executioner is on ps4/ps5 to. It's a side scrolling beat em up but does have a pretty deep combo system to.
Looks almost too good to be true, like playing an actual Anime fight scene or something. If the combat feels as good as it looks it could really be something special!
I remember questioning the authenticity of the release video, but this is looking amazing.
Look forward to seeing more. I wonder how difficult a game it will be.
Man, the animations are on another level.
Phantom blade zero looks amazing.a little bit of sekiro.word up son
It looks badass! They got plenty of time to fix things up since there's no release date/window but stills looks great
