The exciting age of updated PS2 emulation on PS5 and PS4 is now upon us, potentially opening the door to an enormous catalogue of classics – assuming platform holder Sony is willing to put in the leg work. The first three titles – Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus, Tomb Raider Legend, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars – all feature Platinum Trophies, as well as quality of life improvements like rewind, save states, and uprendering. They can be downloaded in most of Europe and Asia now, but Americans may need to sit tight a little longer.
We’ll putting all three titles through their paces and getting a feel for Sony’s upgraded emulator, but if you’re a PS Plus Premium subscriber, you don’t need to wait for us – get them downloading and give them a spin for yourself. The games can also be purchased standalone if you don’t want to commit to Sony’s membership model; in the UK, Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus will cost you £7.99, Tomb Raider Legend will run you £15.99, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars will need £3.99.
The pricing is all over the place, then, but it’s just great to see PS2 games resurrected for Sony’s current set of consoles.

How do they come up with these prices? £15.99 for an 18 year old Tomb Raider game is insane. It's currently 89p on GOG for PC. I'm sure they'd sell lots more copies if they priced them sensibly.
Can't wait coming back home to play Sly!
@Smash41 I imagine that's just a decision down to the Tomb Raider rights holder, unfortunately.
in the UK, it’s Sly Raccoon not Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus, for anyone looking to search for it.
@Smash41 I guarantee it will sell more at £15.99 on PS5 than at 89p on GOG over the next few weeks/months. Simply because it's a new market for it. Those games weren't available in this form on PS5 until today. Whereas for the GoG comparison you are comparing to year 20 or something it's been available there and sales have likely almost entirely dried up, hence the low pricing, they will get the occasional sale to people who go, "oh it's only 89p" I remember Tomb Raider. The price reflects the market.
Did a comparison of the PS3 version of Tomb Raider Legend and this PS2 version on PS5. The PS3 version which comes with TR: Anniversary and TR: Underworld, looks better (without what looks like Vaseline smeared over it) and also includes trophies. It was cheaper and came in a box which you can put on a shelf when not in use, as well as including a manual and disc meaning I didn't even need to connect to the internet to play.
Sly cooper and the thievius raccoonus for oh yeah.word up son
I love it. You can change the control settings to reverse the horizontal camera control. Was horrible in the OG Sly! So much nicer to play now.
Really looking forward to playing sly cooper properly without needing a Internet connection, but im actually looking forward to trying out the other 2, never played the clone wars and tomb raider legend before so I'm pretty excited! 👍
if you dont want to pay those prices either wait for a sale its been years so you can probably wait a bit longer to play them
or get ps+premium you can play them on there
Thanks — all I needed to hear £16 for TR Legend seems a little steep though, definitely gonna wait for a sale, for that one
4 quid for clone wars.... don't say it.... don't say it.....
ANOTHER FINE ADDITION TO MY COLLECTION!
Loved the game, the republic gunship was a beast. But those on foot sections can get in the bin.
@Andee This is something I'm glad Sony has done, they could have easily locked these games to premium like Nintendo has done, least here we can own the games we want.
I hope they bring the Maximo games over.
@AdamNovice Yeah, I'm really not a fan of subscription services as a rule — what actually tipped me over for NSO is the cloud save/backups; the games are more of a bonus than an active pursuit.
And yeah, Maximo was a series that passed me by, but it really has that "early PS2" vibe about it and I'm sure it'd go down well with early adopters from the time (I was late to the party)
@Bizzy Very curious on this and more. The first 3 Sly games are also on a PS3 collection.
@jorel262 I don't own those unfortunately but 'The Sly Trilogy' on PS3 at CEX is £60. I have Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time though and I think that was given away with PS Plus back in the PS3 days
what is sony's goal with its "classics" release schedule? 4 years in and less than 100 titles to show for it across ps1/ps2/psp. i mean, this is beyond a slow trickle. the ps1/ps2/psp had well over 6000 NTSC releases but currently we are sitting at just 1% of the library on ps4/ps5. ps3 had about 300 ps1 classics alone (not including ps2 and psp games). at this point in time, a conservative number would be 500 classics minimum. seeing people excited about the bread crumbs we are getting is baffling. i would consider re-purchasing some games if sony cared, but as it stands, the only way around this is via "other methods". i.e. NEVER throw away legacy hardware. emulation has come a long way as well. ps1 games run perfectly fine. ps2 could be better but it is getting there.
Clone Wars is all I care about here. Sly is cool, Tomb Raider is cool but I am happy with my PS3 collections instead of those. Clone Wars has been something I want to find but haven't yet a copy.
Prices seem fair for the emulation effort and whatever they go for nowadays. Anyone that expects cheap on the second hand market I mean it's the second hand market not the regular market prices that should be obvious of the wild prices and not as much cheapness because they are still well known games not niche ones I pick up for cheap. So these first market prices are interesting for emulation that 'varies' and whatever the rights holders think it's worth. Some of these seem like NEW copy prices then Complete in Box worth or pre-owned at lower. At least for checking Tomb Raider Legends PS2, brief look at Sly/Clone Wars pricing.
Granted some I get for $5 at one store others more second hand wild prices of demand. But different stores priorities of other products too.
@get2sammyb
I also heard that they are advertising the game on the psn page with 4k PC screenshots but the actual PS5 game is only 480p, not upresed or anything. Rip off.
They'll sell because it has a platinum trophy that's why
