Ubisoft has tasked another of its internal development studios, Ubisoft Toronto, to assist with developing the troubled Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake, which has been under wraps at Ubisoft Montreal for some time now.
Announcing its assistance on Twitter, Ubisoft Toronto revealed it would be joining forces with Ubisoft Montreal on this one, saying: "We're excited to rewind time and bring our studio's creativity, expertise, and updated tech to refresh this beloved classic with our partners at Ubisoft Montreal."
Last we heard, courtesy of Insider Gaming, the game has been "completely redone", taking a more "realistic approach" to the previously fantastical world the Prince inhabits. We learned that Yuri Lowenthal will not be reprising his role as the titular protagonist, and the remake is still quite a ways off.

Who made the original sands of time, and why can't they work on the remake?
@CutchuSlow Ubisoft Montreal was the original studio I believe.
This is doomed.
@IamJT oh I see. Thanks.
I love original so much to willing play ten times re-done something.
I still have in mind FF7R... great game but definitely NOT Final Fantasy 7.
I had this pre-ordered on PS4 before it's first delay. My pre-order was cancelled by simply games. Think they should just give up now
I am surprised they're still working on it.
The original game, while good, was never THAT good to warrant all the time and human effort that has gone into this remake.
What will we see first? This or BG&E2? XD
The original is still a really strong game, the main thing that needs fixing is combat. With that in mind I honestly don’t know why more studios don’t take the Bluepont games approach to remasters/remakes which is:
Running TWO engines side by side, both the original so that MOST core gameplay, controls and level design is left intact. But also run a second engine that replaces graphics, sounds etc. where needed and then finally replace other elements like the combat model and add QoL features where needed.
The bulk of this game the puzzle design, world design, responsive controls & story doesn’t need changing at all. Other than combat it’s mostly just a visual facelist that is needed. It’s a lot of work but less risky than building a new game
They should ditch this and make Fenyx 2.
Honestly at this point just can it and port the original
I hope they can at least re-use the assets, engine, animations etc. to remake the other two PS2 sequels without as much time, effort and cost. Hopefully then they'll stand a better chance of a decent return on investment (and give us a complete trilogy).
@CutchuSlow he left ubisoft like 10 years ago
Does ubisoft not think at this point they may aswel male.a new Prince of persia game.
Its only a remake.
Its like was skull and bones even worth it?
Let alone a remake of a game which was good but not that amazing its going to smash everything in its path. Prince of persia wasn't even that big of a series in the firdt place.
I think I can give Ubisoft credit?
They are at least giving studios outside the usual hubs a chance to grow gaming development in different markets.
Boy it hasn't gone well though....
A more realistic approach? Well, colour me uninsterested then.
i mean... at this point ubisoft is going to have to charge $150 for this game if they hope to turn a profit.
Shows they are still trying which is a sign besides the smaller ones to get the IP some support. I didn't care for a Metroidvania
Playing Fenix is fine but I mean it's a less tedious Ubisoft open world so I'm enjoying it. Then again avoiding Ubisoft's online services to play Fenix. Might do the same with the demo for the Metroidvania out of curiosity but not that into it. Played other Metroidvanias and aren't my thing.
I did buy up Two Thrones PS2 and Forgotten Sands Wii (absolutely love it near the end or 3/4 mark) haven't seen a copy of the 1st & 3rd in the trilogy yet.
I'm interested in this remake but depends how it goes.
I bought up Red Steel 1 & 2, and have more interest in their older games then current ones so Prince of Persia Sands of Time remake will do it hopefully.
I've just ordered myself a PS2, so I think I'll just play it on there!
