Video game outlet Insider Gaming has managed to get its hands on some in-development footage of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake.
The project was initially announced in 2020, but was met with heavy criticism thanks mostly to the direction of its visuals. The backlash was so strong that Ubisoft decided to go back to the drawing board and give the game to a more experienced studio. We've barely heard a peep about the remake in the years since, save for a small official update promising development is still progressing.
Now, anonymous sources have provided Insider Gaming with footage of the game in its current state and comments on its trajectory. Apparently, the game appears to have been "completely redone", adopting a more "realistic approach" as it essentially started again from scratch. "Everything has been built from the ground up, which includes a complete graphical overhaul, new animations and mechanics for combat and parkour, and much more," writes Tom Henderson, adding it's also been rewritten and motion capture re-recorded. The footage reportedly shows the game is "somewhat still in an early stage".
Additionally, it's noted that Yuri Lowenthal won't be reprising his role as the prince after all.
Insider Gaming's sources suggested an official update on the Sands of Time remake could be coming soon, but no further detail on that was provided.
So, it sounds like it'll be very different whenever it does reappear. Fingers crossed it isn't too far away, and that fans will be happy with what they see when it's re-unveiled. Are you holding out hope for the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake? Tell us in the comments section below.

So its a re-remake? They should put that on the cover. Y'all love your remakes?.....well here's a re-remake!!
Honestly, this makes me a lot less confident it's going to end up being a good game. I have much more faith in old Ubi than modern Ubi when it comes to gameplay. Should have just touched up the visuals, added a few QoL adjustments and called it a day.
The amount of projects in development hell over Ubisoft is nuts.
I was already happy if they just re-released the Sands trilogy 4K upscaled and with 60fps.
I hope Ubisoft does justice to the original and remakes it as a live service FPS with gacha mechanics
I surprised they haven't turned it into an assassins creeds clone, considering assassin creed was supposedly a evolution of the Prince of persia format.
i almost feel bad for the team working on it , they seemed so happy to get the chance to do it , but it was really under whelming when the trailer came out.
When a game has to be fully remade, never a good sign.
Anyone who thinks it being totally redone is a bad sign needs to watch the old trailer. The remake was going to murder the series.

lol, yes. Thank you. Literally the dictionary definition of a remake. Anything short of that and it would be a remaster. These are not complicated vocabulary words to wrap your heads around. Glad they took a step back when they realized how poorly things were going.
@MidnightDragonDX better be reworked from scratch than release in an undesirable state I'd say. I take this as good news.
This was an AAA PS360 title. And then they remade it. But then they remade the remake. So if that's three, AAA games, does that mean this is now an "AAAAAAAAA" game?
This game's had as many remakes as a Naughty Dog game in half the time. Well done Ubisoft!
@tameshiyaku I guess I'm too cynical.
