Video game fans watching the Olympics opening ceremony might have spied a familiar-looking figure flitting across Parisian rooftops, engaging in parkour shenanigans. No, you haven't been drinking from the Seine; the hooded and acrobatic torchbearer appears to be involved with Ubisoft, with the Assassin's Creed developer's headquarters located in the French capital.
Interestingly, the mysterious individual has proven exceedingly hard to track, as footage and images of the hooded figure are being caught up in all kinds of copyright shenanigans. Eurogamer managed to source the below clip featuring images from AP, but true to the stealthy series with which the name is synonymous, they've been exceedingly hard to pin down. Ubisoft told fans to watch for Arno Dorian, the protagonist of 2014's revolutionary Assassin's Creed Unity, during the opening ceremony, and it remains to be seen if other appearances are planned.
Did you spy Arno keeping an eye on proceedings during the Olympics opening ceremony? What are the odds that a masked, costumed individual will be arrested for hanging about on rooftops? Let us know in the comments section below.

Ubisoft was so disappointed with the Paris opening they decided to send someone to “take care” of whoever was in charge.
At this point, I expect Master Chief to show up at the next USA-bound games.
@Yousef- I only saw Gojira play but that was cool.
@IamJT me too. Was a lot of fun.
@Yousef- The opening ceremony really was kind of tacky tbh. Hundreds of years of art, culture and events to draw upon, and they end up giving us that nonsense. Look up Beijing 2008, that is how it should be done.
@LifeGirl yeah, as a Frenchman myself, it was even more than "tacky", it was humiliating, but also very representative of the current state of the nation : totally out of its depths, pretentiously oblivious if its decline, vulgar, and strayed away from its rich culture and history.
What a sad moment in time for France...
Despite the unpolished nature of it at launch, this was their highest quality Assassin’s Creed to date. The graphics and gameplay mechanics still hold up 10 years later. Crazy that it has been 10 years already..
I didn't like the opening ceremony but AC Unity is so underrated and I really liked it despite the disastrous release.
But was the Ubisoft logo upside down
Stealth assassination is hereby confirmed as a new Olympic discipline
The opening ceremony was a bit of a mess but the parkour stuff was a standout. Did worry for this poor hooded person trying to do flips and tricks with the torch in torrential rain, on one of the slippiest surfaces I’ve ever seen.
Bit of a shame it rained but I read that the event and area was so huge that the organisers couldn't do a full live rehearsal.
And it showed. For me everything just went on a bit too long, the best bits were seeing the actual competitors on the boats looking excited, apart from that any atmosphere was washed away by the rain.
For example, when the Eiffel Tower lasers went on, I thought "Cool!"
10 minutes later, same thing with one solitary chap dancing in a puddle in fairly close up, looking like he was making it up as he was going along.
They got the torch all the way to the Eiffel Tower and then Rafael Nadal & co took it away again!
Do quite like the balloon though.
Thought the person was Joan of Arc
I''ll forgive them for the opening ceremony if they can get Daft Punk to reunite for the closing ceremony
I thought the opening ceremony was really great actually. I like how it actually used the entire city instead of being set only in the stadium like usual. It kind of felt like a tour of Paris as well as a show. Plus Arno running about with the torch was a very cool touch as well!
@LowDefAl Yeah, Gaga was pre-recorded too. Makes sense, London made a big deal out of the Bond stuff and that was pre-recorded too. And naff as f**k.
@Olmaz I think it's more the state of the Olympics than the state of France TBH. Then again, as an American, I'm giggling at your description of "totally out of its depths, pretentiously oblivious if its decline, vulgar", that's been the UK and US stereotype of France for 1000 years....so maybe everything's fine
@PaperAlien Would a cameo from the Jamaican bobsled team count?
@NEStalgia Fair enough on how France has been viewed from abroad for 1000 years, and I guess they wouldn't be wrong!
Still, this ceremony was a new low, especially for something which has been viewed globally on a major scale!
@Khwarezm89 AC Unity is still my favorite AC. Yes, just a tad above AC2 and Origins...
The graphic, the movement and the story stills holds up today, I'd love a good remaster.
@Olmaz LOL. Yeah, though no matter where it was held I never had a good feeling about this Olympics. Their wayward attempt to "modernize" the games, the whole change in scope from the venues to being spread across a country (even across the world)...I was guessing for the past few years that it was going to be something of a mess. Too much high minded ideas, too little practical focus. Too much focus on global political theater not enough focus on actual event organization....
At best, it's basically the launch (beta) of Olympics 2.0 awaiting the day one patch to fix everything messed up about it. At worst it's the beginning of the downward spiral of the Olympics as it loses its identity.
Not sure if it's unfortunate or prophetic that France gets to be the one to send it off on that though It's ok, next time is LA and will feature crowd participation in the marathon as people are mugged and start running in unison. Then they get to run again once they're wearing gold.
AC Unity: I don't even think it needs a remaster. I finally started it again (after "playing" on PS for and being unable to continue past the beginning due to it being broken out of the box back then) on my Legion Go, and even on the Z1 the thing looks and plays like a modern game. It's incredibly how ahead of the curve that game was. And how behind the curve AC has mostly been since then.
I have seen much better cosplays.
Now if they would only give us a next gen game built from the ground up with the unity style Parkour in mind. Just imagine how awesome, an actual polished version of those mechanics would be.
