Spin-off title Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters, originally developed by High Impact Games, will be freed from its PSP and PS2 shackles next week, when it’s ported to PS5 and PS4 as part of Sony’s PS Plus Premium catalogue. The bite-sized adventure – which can be beaten in around five to six hours – takes Insomniac Games’ tried and trusted gameplay loop and scales it down, which is entertaining enough if you’re looking for some mindless action.
All of the series staples are present and correct in this version, including weapon levelling, minigames, and even Clank gameplay. Many of the reviews upon release were incredibly positive, due to the way in which the game effortlessly transitioned traditional Ratchet & Clank gameplay to a handheld environment. We’d expect the reception to be a little cooler for this emulated effort, considering you can play the vastly superior Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart on the PS5 already.
Nevertheless, it’s great to see this game resurrected from the late noughties, and made readily available on contemporary consoles. We’re hopeful Secret Agent Clank isn’t far behind, because despite its weaker critical reception, it steers the series in a more interesting direction which few got to experience at launch.

The non-Insomniac Ratchet games aren't perfect, but they're still fun entries into the series. Glad more people get to give them a try.
Just purchased a copy 2 weeks ago for my PS2... always happens like that. Still haven't started it but am looking forward to playing it for the first time. I've played all entries except this one.
Cool. Now let's get the PS3 Ratchet and Clank games on PS5.
I enjoyed this game on PSP back in the day and I'm looking forward to playing it again with trophies on PS5.
In a case like this where there's PSP and PS2 versions of the same game, I'm curious how Sony chooses which one to bring forward. I would think the PS2 versions are generally superior in terms of graphics and controls. It would be nice if they released both. Same for Syphon Filter, Twisted Metal and Motorstorm: Arctic Edge (we'll probably never get this one due to music licensing, sadly).
Watch one of the trophies be "Buy the R.Y.N.O"
If you know, you know.
While 100% is not worth it (as someone not into NG+ for these games and just repeats levels 20+ times to grind bolts or does the challenges, why no ratchet arena till SAC, gadgebots puzzles were really well made, weapons and mods were fair, the races were ok but awkward to control at times, gadgets were cool and new, fair giant clank, the frame rate on Metalis bolt secret area always ran bad on PSP and PS2, but the skill points in SM are fair, SAC are worse and the key cards and shades symbols, glad I've gotten them but they aren't worth it, just weapon leveling for me to go, not doing the skill points).
2 & 3 trophies to me were hard but easy enough, other entries I just can't be bothered with the trophies. If the trophies for SM/SAC are as bad as can theorise pass. Already 100%ed Size Matters anyway. I'm good.
Hmm SM multiplayer, the treehouse and the crazy ideas of these PSP games are really cool, sure the aspects of characters are different but they make sense what they were going for and the mechanics and even getting bolts/secrets are really interesting in this game.
I enjoy the OG 4 but to me SM/SAC aren't bad by any means, it's like saying Mario Lost Levels is bad just because it's harder and throws off players different sure but still really good even if some parts are awkward in SM/SAC and are still PSP limited so pacing or other aspects do make them annoying at times.
Loved this on PSP so i shell be picking it up.
Literally every game in existence ever had been coming to current consoles in some form or another. Crazy...
Size does matter. It’s the reason my last few exs dumped me. It’s not my fault it’s micro. I blame my father. Oh well. Excited to try this game despite my PTSD with the title
Love seeing these older titles coming back. Especially with trophy support. It just breathes new life into them.
It’s sooooo f**king bad. I hated my time with it a couple months ago. Basically everything they could do wrong, it’s done here.
Whats a “noughties”? In Murica we call it the “ohs”
I went from premium to extra cause I’m sick of psp game offerings. I was hoping for ps2/3 and think they look much better . PSP games were diluted versions of franchises cause if it’s power and portability , and being blown in on a huge screen is sore for the eyes
i really love ratchets old/original design, it really speaks early 2000s to me back when every game wanted cool characters instead of cute cuddly ratchet we have now.
Can't wait to platinum, this was my first rachet game.
I hope they will add Ratchet & Clank 3 eventually. That's my favourite in the series.
@kailun I really don’t understand their thinking. They give us PSP Lego Star Wars II despite the PS2 version just being better, and also the first one actually released on there. And then the Size Matters PS2 port apparently runs much better. It baffles me.
I played this back on PS2 back in the day, and remember being a little bit disappointed by it. It's still fun, but it's not as great as the original trilogy.
Regardless of the quality of the game; outside of Astrobot, these PS1/PS2/PSP games coming back with trophies is the one thing that Playstation is keeping me interested with. Quite exciting each month clicking on the PS+ list (though I don’t have or want PS+) just to see what new old game is coming back with trophies.
I hope they keep the release cadence up and bring more obscurities. Or just give me Dynasty Warriors 2 and 3 with trophies.
Tools of Destruction is the highlight in the R&C series, not Rift Apart.
Anyway, I'm just loading up the Vita's memory cards ready for going on holiday, and this (with its right stick support) is already downloaded! Also, Motorstorm Arctic Edge.is ready to go too.
I already have both PSP and PS2 version in physical so I'm good.
@nessisonett I agree . I would much rather have ps2 ports . They seem to just run better. Don’t need to have any enhancements really . Just play them how they were cause I remember when owning a ps2 a long time ago, that most games just ran well , especially platform games . Let’s hope . And let’s also hope they allow us one day to download those on the premium and not stream only . My internet can’t take that
@sanderson72 true that! tools of destruction was a banger that i feel like is slept on too much
I’d live to see a port of the original Splinter Cell PS2 games. I absolutely loved them and whilst I have them on PS2 it would be nice to play with updated controls etc.
@nessisonett In this case, it’s generally accepted the PSP version is the superior one. The PS2 port apparently added a load of bugs which weren’t in the original PSP release, and it also removed a cutscene for some unknown strange reason.
Size Matters is definitely a clanker... or a clunker....
Now get the rest of them well apart from all for one.lol
Nexus was my favourite as u could actually travel from planet to planet by yourself and have space dogfights
