When it comes to commercial success, you should never bet against big-name anime games. Case in point: Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot has just topped 8 million sales — a figure that most titles couldn't even dream of reaching.
Kakarot is an open world action RPG that retells the story of Dragon Ball Z (and a few others through DLC). It first released for PS4 in 2020, and an improved version arrived on PS5 much more recently, in March of this year. We happen to think it's a solid game, and as an adaptation of Goku's adventures, it's actually a lot more in-depth than you might think.
Dragon Ball is obviously an eternally popular property, but the games still have to be good, and as a publisher, Bandai Namco has been delivering on that front for a while. Dragon Ball XenoVerse 2, Dragon Ball FighterZ, and now Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot have all been blockbuster releases — and we have no doubt whatsoever that Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero will be a heavy hitter as well when it launches in October.

CC2 MAKE A BLEACH STORM GAME PLEEEEEEEEASE!!!!!😭🙏
Great game for fans of anime. To be honest it's not often we anime sickos get a decent game based on anime properties. Looking at you, Jump force. Can't wait for the new dragonball game tbh
Damn good game! Really enjoyed it myself.
Dragon Ball? Smashes? Goku in Smash confirmed!!!
In all seriousness, it’s neat hearing this still sells well. Just how I like it.
@Keyblade-Dan I still hold out hope for that.
@Yousef- I'm just absolutely flabbergasted that this opportunity hasn't been capitalised on with the series going through a renaissance thanks to TYBW's anime adaptation
I beat the main game but didn't very much care for the dlc's.
It's an alright game. It got repetitive though. I don't think it deserves 8m, but it goes to show how dbz sells.
DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi on modern consoles will have me leaping for joy!
Lots of sales.. but this doesnt show how many people wanted to return it expecting something different.. yes yes
Playing this currently through PS Plus, great game and bringing back lots of memories for me 😁
