When it comes to commercial success, you should never bet against big-name anime games. Case in point: Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot has just topped 8 million sales — a figure that most titles couldn't even dream of reaching.
Kakarot is an open world action RPG that retells the story of Dragon Ball Z (and a few others through DLC). It first released for PS4 in 2020, and an improved version arrived on PS5 much more recently, in March of this year. We happen to think it's a solid game, and as an adaptation of Goku's adventures, it's actually a lot more in-depth than you might think.
Dragon Ball is obviously an eternally popular property, but the games still have to be good, and as a publisher, Bandai Namco has been delivering on that front for a while. Dragon Ball XenoVerse 2, Dragon Ball FighterZ, and now Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot have all been blockbuster releases — and we have no doubt whatsoever that Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero will be a heavy hitter as well when it launches in October.
