Gearbox CEO Rany Pitchford has again sung the praises of the unlikely D&D-themed Borderlands spinoff, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, which he described as being "wildly successful", revealing that the series could become a major pillar for the company.
Pitchford made the comments to GamesRadar+ during San Diego Comic-Con, having previously called the 2022 title a "major victory" that blew past all internal milestones: "What we demonstrated with the first Wonderlands game was that there's something there. It was wildly successful and exceeded our expectations."
While he doesn't confirm another Tiny Tina game, the Gearbox boss reveals that Wonderlands had a bigger response than the initial Borderlands, a title that would spawn almost two decades of sequels and spinoffs. Pitchford said: "We had a bigger result with the first Wonderlands game than we did with the first Borderlands game, so that's something we can build on."

Well I'm happy to hear that to game was Succesful.
When I saw that heading “Bigger than Borderlands” I almost choked. Luckily he wasn't referring to the franchise. Haha
It’s the only Borderlands game I haven’t been able to finish, I managed about 2 hours. I liked the Tiny Tina character in the real Borderlands games, but this one just gave me a headache. I also didn’t like the setting or weapons.
i call bs, how many people remembered this game?
This game was boring and the standard borderlands formula is getting a little stale.
Plus, how could it not do better than the initial Borderlands?? It’s a household name at this point when the original launched it was a complete unknown. Sales speak makes no sense as always.
Oh. What? Sorry, I stopped reading after the part where it says "Randy Pitchford."
This game, Borderlands 3, and its Tales sequel are why I have completely lost faith in the Borderlands series.
Randy also claimed Alien: Colonial Marines and Duke Nukem Forever are good games. So...
This guys had a break from reality...@Nepp67 I really enjoyed borderlands 3. I didn't like the prequel game and tiny Tina's wondershite was just that..
They've given it away on every platform, that's probably a "sale".
Much better than borderlands 3 imo, I loved the d&d vibe
Loved it and would love to see a sequel but don’t release ***** dlc like that ever again. It was the first time I was let down by their borderlands dlc ever and regretted getting the edition with the season pass
@AgentMantis how many times does it have to be said that copies given away for free are never counted in sales totals Jesus
@Northern_munkey why because a game that fans loved and sold very well didn’t bomb like you imagined in your head
@PuppetMaster what does that have to do with sales?
@Colour the first borderlands sold extremely well that was the point
@dark_knightmare2 What i mean is don't take Randy's word seriously about Tiny Tina sales.
@dark_knightmare2 is everything ok at home? 5 straight replies defending a mediocre at best game seems is coming across as a cry for help tbh
Hope there's no more of it. Personally not into all this D&D fantasy stuff
@AgentMantis well I don’t hang out on message boards all day so when I came in and saw unwarranted and ridiculous hate for a update on sales of a good game I replied to those comments while being here. I would like to know if I missed some hard and fast rule about there being a limit of how many replies you can make to users while scrolling through comments that I missed somewhere any help would be appreciated?Oh and to answer your question home life is great even though that’s a weird train of thought to take in regards to replies on a message board but hey you do you. To be serious for a moment the constant negativity,cynicism and hate of the internet on any little subject is just getting tiring so I try to push back on it
I thoroughly enjoyed it. Wouldn’t be at all surprised if going forward Gearbox alternate between Borderlands mainline entries with Tiny Tina Wonderlands games, even if they are remarkably similar.
The game was actually a really fun time, the story was pretty damn awful for the most part but some jokes landed and it was a cool aesthetic.
@dark_knightmare2
Who told you my middle name? Maybe we know each other from somewhere
@Czar_Khastik lol
@dark_knightmare2 are you aware of this little thing called having an opinion? You don't have to agree with me or even like my comments but it's still my opinion. Still not happy then swipe the ignore button.
@dark_knightmare2 "i saw unwarranted and ridiculous hate for a update on sales of a good game I replied to those comments while being here"
To be clear, i don't hate Tiny Tina or Borderlands series. But i dislike Randy Pitchford and his track records of lying.
@PuppetMaster that I understand he’s a POS
They need to make better DLC for the next Wonderlands. It would also help if they had better level design. It was both good and terrible consistently. It all looked too samey as well.
I couldn’t get passed the character creator, it was so bad that I uninstalled the game
I enjoyed that game. I would gladly play a sequel.
@nomither6
I certainly did. I really liked it.
@nomither6 Never heard of it.
Despite being a massive Borderlands fan, I waited for a HUGE sale before buying the game due to all the crap with the Epic Game Store. When I finally did buy the game, I did not really get into it because I prefer the crafted characters such as in the other Borderlands games rather than generic characters you create yourself, though I understand why they went that route. I didn't like the more simplistic classes with a focus on multi-classing, either, because it took away from each class's uniqueness. I ended up uninstalling the game and didn't play it until just recently. I must admit, I actually really liked it. It's not up to the quality of the mainline Borderlands games, but the gameplay was fun and the presentation was very good. I would definitely buy a sequel, either at launch if it launches on Steam or after a deep sale on Steam if it doesn't.
Base game was one of the best in the series. Dlc was one of the worst in all of gaming. And its a total shame we never got a new game plus.
@nomither6 my wife just started playing a couple of months back, she loved the game. That being said I can't imagine it being a "massive success" or being bigger than borderlands
wow I didn't realize how many people disliked this game. I thought it was pretty fun although admittedly I'm not a massive Borderlands fan but I had a really good time with it
I've played it with a few friends and it's a genuinely fun game.
The online runs a hell of a lot better then the Borderlands trilogy on Steam. Borderlands has such a terrible lag problem on Steam that renders it virtually unplayable.
Tiny Tina doesn't have that problem.
Played it for an hour or two when it first came out and that was enough for me. I don't know after Borderlands 2 it's hard for me to get back into the series which is odd because I love Borederlands and Borderlands 2.
It's not surprising about Tiny Tina's though especially since they have a TTRPG version.
I loved the settings and weapons, but you have to play it muted. Being blind also helps anytime there's dialogue.
@Batesy125s i can see it being one of those games to play with your partner , cool.
@The_Wailing_Doom exception to the rule , heh
@Northern_munkey i think dk2 mum told them they had get a job and move out and we all have to suffer the temper tantrums now.
Personally, I really REALLY liked Tiny Tina's Wonderland. I loved the setting, being an old school D&D player from way back. The characters were a lot of fun. HOWEVER, having said all that, I've never been able to finish the game because of a MASSIVE bug that I've reported on before, and have had happen multiple times: started a single-player game, then later joined my daughters on their games. As soon as I quit out, MY progress was reset to...I believe it was mission 4, and no matter how far I would go in my own campaign it would always reset my story progress back to that part...but my character's level/stats/abilities would stay at where they were. Eventually somehow it corrected itself during another multiplayer game, but then happened again on the last one. It just got so frustrating, that I deleted the game and didn't want to continue. I WANTED to get to the end, but just trying to get there was like beating my head against the wall.
@Northern_munkey I had fun with BL3 at first, but the more I played, the worse it got. Annoying characters and villains(Where I had to mute it), the annoying as hell purple enemies that will sometimes go invincible and you won't be able to do ANYTHING besides wait for it to finish, constant rocket launcher spam, and then there's variety of guns that drops heavily in the highest difficulty because the legendary weapons have three times the damage compared to a epic(purple) weapons.
I thought it was pretty dull, but they got my $30.
@Nepp67 I can't say that I really noticed anything of what you said...I'm not saying it ain't so but I think sometimes I get that involved in some games that I overlook the little things that other people get irked by.
The character creation was horrible I was really expecting more I rather get original characters that are fleshed out.
@KillerBoy Yeah its really terrible man it was worst I ever had and after I finished my character she looked horrible. 😬
I stopped playing after that too.
It was ok but the insane amounts of loot ruined it, spending all the time checking stuff is not good gaming
