Rumour: Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered Leaks Ahead of Imminent Reveal

Love seeing classic bought forward, wish Ea would remaster burnout 3 and revenge.

Having missed out on these back in the day (I was a blinkered casual ☺️) and having heard the subsequent gushing, remastered versions would rock my world!

The worst thing about Soul Reaver is the “To be continued” at the end.

Yeah I'm in..loved the first game and loved the 2nd even more on the dreamcast.

Soul Reaver was excellent but Blood Omen was the best

I loved the original games. I re-played one of them probably 10 years ago. I couldn't carry on. The controls were just awful. So remastered doesn't sound great. Remake! Remake! Remake!

Are there any remastered games where the controls and movement been improved. The GTA trilogy was terrible too.

If its just a remaster they should really do all of them at once or in order for the story

YES! Hopefully it’s a solid remaster in the vein of Mass REffect: Legendary Edition - with some quality of life and control updates.

Their atmosphere was incredible when I played them back in the day, but I imagine they’d be a bit difficult to play these days if it’s a straight port

@Dadou Lords of the Fallen (2023) has a similar mechanic. Apparently both worlds are rendered on top of each other in real time, since you can "see" the other world while holding a lamp and moving it around

I loved Legacy of Kain: Defiance back in the day on the good ol' Ps2, so this would be extremely welcome, in my book.

Aww man... i wanted defiance too, but this is incredible news.

Gonna go against the waves here, and state that Remastering those games is a mistake.
As in "not the best way to go about it"
Remaking them would be much wiser, especially from the mechanics point of view, augmenting and bringing them to current times... otherwise they'll just be enjoyed by the existing fans and that's about it. The IP will wake up and go back to sleep faster than you can say Kain.
They should do what Capcom has done with Resident Evil 2, if they really care about bringin this franchise back to life.

I LOVE all the 3 Soul Reaver games, and it would be absolutely epic if they would be brought back into the spotlight.
But only if done properly, and not in mockery and for the sake of a quick buck like in so many other cases....

This would be awesome. A series worthy of it. Although I'd much rather have remakes and/or just rebooting the series and expanding Upon the source material.

There have been far too many half baked cash grab remakes in the last few years. Hopefully this isn't that if it's more than just merchandising the meme level hopium.

I agree with you and would go so far as saying it needs a remake/reboot. RE2 is a good example.

With that said, beggar's can't be choosers and just a remaster of the old games is something i will be happy to have.

@colonelkilgore yeah I'm the same, was mainly into JRPGs back in the day, although I also played MGS and capcom games such as Resident evil. But I missed out on a few games that are now considered classics, such as these and Castlevanie SOTN

@Shinnok789 listen, I’d want lovingly produced remakes of each installment for sure… I just can’t see an appropriate level of appetite for that unfortunately. So for rehabilitated casuals like me, remasters might be the only chance I get at playing them.

Remastered? This games are old. Remake would have been nicer or a new game in the series. Im guessing in comparison to todays graphics it will still look abysmal. I did play Soul Reaver 2 and I enjoyed it alot, it was an amazing game in my opinion. Let’s see how much they can improve on graphics

Too bad it's just a remaster, unless the upgrade is as big as Crisis Core or something.
I suspect the games might feel janky after all these years but I loved them back then and will definitely give them a go again.

I have seen some YT playthroughs and definitely wouldn't mind playing them myself, especially the one with the dual world/realm mechanic like LoTF 2023

I always thought Soul Reaver was pretty neat. This is definitely the type of series I like to see brought back. Anxious to see what it looks like and if they are adding any QOL stuff.

I need the Blood Omen games to or I'll cry.

Raziel and Kain, best characters in video game history imo. I'm still reading about the rich world of Nosgoth after more than 20 years when I first played the original soul reaver back in 1999. Never gets old

@Dadou wow Shadow Man maybe the 1st 3D metroidvania before the term existed. I can remember on that time reviewers were blaming it for having to go back and forth to a same lcation duringvthe gameplay but now praising such games! All was great except its utterly stupid ending. Anyway, it has a special place in my heart along with the entire Legacy of Kain series

This is great news if true. I wasn’t even a teenager when I first played Soul Reaver on PS1 and I loved it. I played Blood Omen too back in 1996, I’m really showing my age here it seems like it was a lifetime ago!

@dadou @2here2there Shadow Man Remastered came out January 2022 and was remastered by Nightdive Studios, I’ve yet to play it myself but that game is another classic from my childhood.

I got to play Soul Reaver on PS1 back in the days but never got the chance to finish it. I would definitely love to get a chance if this remaster is real!

@Northern_munkey beat me to that almost exact comment. I played but didn't beat it on PS1 but beat it on the super slick Dreamcast version.

Not sure if it came out on the same day or not but I remember buying it on same day as crazy taxi

@Odium Defiance finished the story in the best way possible as it solved that arc but let the series open for future games that sadly never got traction.

@Shinnok789 A remake would be amazing if they start right from the beginning again as you have to play Blood Omen first to understand why the world is broken and the impossible choice that Kain was given which starts everything that follows. The only change I would make is remove the choice from the ending of Blood Omen so if follows the canon choice he actually made.

That said if they did remake then they better reuse the audio files for Tony Jay and not recast.

I loved these games, played it on PS1 but didn't finish it as I remember my memory card corrupted and all me save's were gone. Including FF8, Legacy of Kain, and I was almost to the end of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night....the pain of a losing saved games on a memory card!!

@ParboldCoder I had 3 memory cards fail at Ultimecias Castle and each time it just pushed me to go even harder at the game each time. Must have taken me about 300+ hours to finish FF8 because of that.

Any Legacy of Kain content is great! I will happily take a remaster of two of the best games in the series and hopefully we get some full remakes of all the games (especially Blood Omen) down the line!

that remaster needs to be similar to a remaster what SE did with Crisis Core because these games are super ancient and no amount of HD remaster is going to pique ppl's interest when we are at least used to ps4 era of graphics

@Ilyn Remaking the whole franchise, starting from Blood Omen and ending up with Defiance... breaking them down, adding missing time periods, adding removed content, augmenting and improving upon the story (bringing Amy Henning in on it again), bringing the combat mechanics up to date etc...
And making at least a duology out of it all.
Then continue it with a new game.
Hell yeah, that would be EPIC! Mostly utopic and almost "no chance in hell of it actually becoming reality", but I would definitely want that!

I've got the original Legacy of Kain (Eidos) sat on my shelf. It's in a rather fetching triangular green box. I miss the days of game boxes and manuals.

If their is an IP that needs to come back it's Soul Reaver for god please let this be real, the story along is one of the best and the voice acting for the characters just made it even better. I hope they keep the original voices I really do they just need to make it work on today hardware with some quality of life improvements

@Milomaine I miss the days I would go into my local electronix boutique shop to see all the big large PC games boxes on the shelves. Along with 3DFX Voodoo boxes, Creative Labs sound cards and joysticks etc. The entire mod to WoW and then PS2, Xbox and GameCube games the staff were also proper gamers at my local as well. Me and my friend used to go on every Tuesday during college see what was new or cheap and they'd ask what we were playing or let us know the pre order dates for games

Finished Soul reaver in 2018, and the second started playing it 2023, didn't finish yet, have to do that soon before the remaster.

Oooh really hope this does turn out to be announced soon, those statues of Raziel and Kain look fantastic hope they don’t cost a silly amount to buy.
Still waiting for news on the Kotor remake which also seems to be getting statues, Bastilla has one already and Darth Raven has one coming out next year.
