Everyone's favourite Sony suit, Shuhei Yoshida, is an indie games evangelist and seemingly always up for a bit of fun. The latest evidence of both these things is this recent video, in which the executive chats with Brjánn Sigurgeirsson, CEO of Thunderful, about all things SteamWorld while chowing down on hot wings. In what's clearly a riff on YouTube series Hot Ones, this is well worth checking out if you're a fan SteamWorld, Yoshida-san, or both.
While this is a thinly veiled promotional video for the upcoming release of SteamWorld Heist 2, it's actually more an exploration of SteamWorld as a whole. The pair exchange questions and answers about the franchise, delving into the history of developer Image & Form, SteamWorld's genre flexibility, and Shu's favourite titles from the series. There are some really fun facts and anecdotes throughout the 25-minute video.
They get through all this while eating wings doused in progressively spicier hot sauce. While they never get anywhere near the Scoville levels of those seen on Hot Ones, it's quite entertaining watching Shu brush them all off like they're nothing. He admits that he loves spicy food, so that makes sense. Sigurgeirsson is a little more trepidatious about the heat, but also manages them all without much issue.
Even though this is mostly a simple fluff piece, it's pretty amusing all the same, and there's some genuinely good chatter about SteamWorld for good measure. What do you think of the video? How would you fare with these hot sauces? Have some water on standby in the comments section below.

I love that it looks like he's having the time of his life working with Indie devs.

Ay yes, My favorite “50 something year old man”. Always good to see good ol’ Yoshida.
@WhiteRabbit I would probably agree. Rarely check them out unless they have some wrestlers (like Undertaker) but even then I wouldn’t religiously watch it. The idea of the show sounds fun but I dunno how you’d make a whole tv show out of it. XD (and this is coming from someone who really likes spicy wings)
I don't even care about this particular game but I haven't heard from Shuhei-san in a while so I'll watch it xD
Hopefully this presages a return to the PlayStation head-honchos being a bit more accessible than they have been in recent years.
@StrickenBiged it's a double edged sword and something I think Nintendo seems to have a handle on quite well. Let them be approachable/quirky but avoid too many public/live interactions.
Phil Spencer is too approachable to the point that it backfires when he backtracks because he's the friendly one.
Playstation are too quiet atm but I feel it's because they have nothing to show for a while.
This is unusual for video games promotion but it looks fun and quite informative since i never played any SteamWorld games. Now i want to try one game from the series.
And not surprised with Shu loves spicy sauce and doesn't look like he sweat that much. That Asian tongue already trained a lot with spicy sauce lol.
@PuppetMaster you are correct lol. Im asian. We really love spicy food. Just look at those video make my mouth watering
On an unrelated tanget, it just hit me this reference is almost 9 years old now and likely won’t be caught by many. Man I feel old.
@breakneck Agreed on all points.
Well I'm now in the mood for some hot wings (no, seriously), so this video brought something positive within me.
If only Shu could be copied and installed in every publisher in the industry.
