Shanghai-based convention ChinaJoy 2024 will get underway this week, and Sony has a massive booth where it’s showing off a variety of local and international titles. As expected, the platform holder has also been expanding its slate of supported, China Hero Project titles – and dark fantasy open world RPG Unending Dawn looks like one to keep an eye on.
Due out on PS5 and mobile, the release will be playable at the aforementioned convention all weekend, and deals with a dark fantasy world where “intangible beings emerge”, according to a Gematsu translation of the blurb. The gameplay looks a little like Code Vein: it’s an anime, cel-shaded twist on the popular Soulslike genre.
We really like the art style, and the combat looks snappy and satisfying, with stylish parries and some decent animation. Clearly it doesn’t have the budget of a major AAA production, but Sony’s China Hero Project is designed to incubate projects and help developers improve them. We’re sure this will be a worthy addition to the PS5’s lineup when it launches in the future.

Does Sony get ownership of these ips in the hero program? Or is it kind of like a loan until the devs payback the money Sony invested?
Was interested until you said on PS5 and Mobile, we know what that means.
@UltimateOtaku91 That means it's made for real gamers: people who game on their mobile phones are gaming anywhere anytime. Unlike casual gamers who use only their consoles.
Looks good, I like the art direction. One to keep an eye on.
The game looks interesting but why i feel like the devs inspired by Claymore.
@Americansamurai1 I believe Sony doesn't own the IP's since some if not most of the games from China Hero Project also released for Xbox and Switch. F.I.S.T and Anno Mutationem for example was released for Switch and Xbox.
@Americansamurai1 I'm not sure exactly how it works, but I imagine they exchange expertise, knowhow, funding, support, marketing for a period of console exclusivity.
It's a money hat, but one that hopefully makes the game better overall.
So many freaking souls like games.
Looks interesting, particularly if you can tune the game so its open to those of oldies who no longer have the reaction time of a fly!
Will keep an eye open for this nearer release..
Sony's Hero projects are showcasing some very interesting games. Also a Code Vein sequel would be nice
Ya know…. A remake of Rogue Galaxy with modern cel shade graphics would be awesome.
Just what we all need another souls type game yay.
Wow that does looks a lot like Code Vein.
